  1. If I dont like any of the listed candidates I write someone in. I just dont like voting for people I dont like. By like I mean his stands. In our state there are many uncontested jobs. I generally write in someone on those too. This year one of my daughters is getting lots of votes. She is not a candidate. She is my daughter just in case you think I am promoting a candidate. Last election I voted for one of my brothers.
  2. Do you drink vinegar? I like vinegar a lot myself. So why would it be wrong to use vinegar? I dont remember anything about that in the Word of Wisdom.
  3. PC, I respect people using the cross as a symbol. Truth is it was used long before any of us were alive and the tradition continues.
  4. Do good! Drive safe!
  5. The cross and the crucifix are the same cross. Even as a piece of jewelry or above a church building it is about the same thing. Even without the body hanging from a cross the implication is still there. I do apologize to those outside the church who use this symbol. I am not trying to insult you. This is how I feel about the cross, and crucifix, not about you.
  6. Sure. By LDS upbringing that would include: believe and live the Gospel. The bigger question to me is why dont you live that if you already believe its better than the way you live now? It is not out of your reach. It would be a lifestyle good for the child. If its good for the child it would be good for the step/parents too. :)
  7. I have read Mike's threads on another site and he has an agenda. He is not the neutral writer you seem to be seeing.
  8. I have very strong feelings on this. Perhaps it has to do with seeing a man nailed to a cross in agony and bleeding on my grandmothers wall and being totally horrified. Why would any one want to see that everyday? I asked my grandmother and she tried to explain it but it never did make sense. I love Jesus and hold Him in my heart but cringe at any thought of ever having such a thing on my wall or neck or anywhere actually. When I was that little girl I did not know anything about anyones opinion on the cross. It was a visceral reaction and I trust my soul to be right not some guy wanting to push this agenda.
  9. Recently I have been thinking a book club might be interesting. So was wondering how they get formed. My guess is a few ladies start discussing their books, then trading off books then moving into a more formal group adding in friends. If so then it is easy to see how it would be mostly women. Perhaps if we look at the history of the groups we could better know if they have intent to ban the opposite sex or if it just formed in the direction of one sex.
  10. Leila can change her hair to Mickey Mouse ears. Luke can get Jiminy Cricket as a sidekick. Yoda can be on Once Upon a Time. So many possibles!!!
  11. I know a nice little crochet group on facebook. They have the cutest guy who runs it. The weaving group also welcomes men although admittedly most are women. Men are just too shy. https://www.facebook.com/groups/rigidheddleweaving/members/ https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Crochet-Crowd/116482731742088
  12. Well something is going on. Affair or not he is showing signs of serious problems. Maybe it is immaturity. Were you discussing children? Planning on having any soon? Whatever it was he has his agency and he is not using it well.
  13. My son is planning on it because he has read it is very good with touch screen computers, which his is. I am not because I have heard it isnt that hot. So what about it do you want?
  14. It might be good for them but peer pressure is pretty hard to fight in a class when the teacher is not on your side. You might want to talk to your son and ask what his views are now. Ask how comfortable he feels going to a class espousing views he disagrees with. Ask if he wants you to try for a waiver. Some kids are more embarrassed by waivers than just gritting the teeth and going to the class. If he does opt for the class discuss it with him often to see what is actually being taught. Whatever you do dont just let it pass and hope it will be ok. These courses are very intimidating to kids who disagree. Peer pressure is not an easy thing to go up river against.
  15. Leash or friend. Or babysitter. :)
  16. I would suggest they update their evolution texts.
  17. The church has already issued a public statement saying how much the applications have increased and its astounding. LDS Church sees increase in missionary applications | ksl.com
  18. Its more trouble for me to do the whole vote early than to just go down the block and vote on the 6th. I can not imagine that my mind is going to change. I do think voting early is a good idea for many people. :)
  19. Havent voted yet but will and have decided. Dont like mail in ballots. I would rather put them in the box at the precinct. If the state did electronic balloting I would do early voting for sure. :)
  20. “As Church leaders had anticipated when the change was announced, the number of individuals who have begun the missionary application process has increased significantly. Typically approximately 700 new applications are started each week. The last two weeks that number has increased to approximately 4,000 per week. Slightly more than half of the applicants are women. These are early numbers and it is difficult to say exactly where we will be over the coming months but we are grateful for the willingness of our members to make the sacrifice to serve people around the world. We recognize that Church members are interested to know additional details on the logistics of this change as discussed after the announcement and look forward to providing more details as the program moves forward.” Church public announcement.
  21. Here is the latest. has link to church news. didnt take time to grab that but you can. A Well-Behaved Mormon Woman: Explosive Confirmation of Increased Numbers Applying for Missionary Service
  22. It makes a lot more sense to just put them on an an ice floe but then Jesus seemed to be opposed to that idea. Did you know that in biblical times 1/10th of your field was to be left for gleaning by the poor? Every 7 years all debts were to be forgiven? My opinion is that we are an imperfect society if we do not care for the poor, the widowed and the disabled. It astounds me to see people give watery spinach to the poor at Christmas under the guise of charity. Didnt the Lord tell us somewhere that we are to give our best not our worst? Didnt He say we were to do it in His name? What difference does it make if we do it as a nation or if we do it as a group of neighbors or as an individual. The purpose is to care for the needy, as Christ, Himself has told us to do. I have been reading in Helaman, mostly, today. If you have the Gospel Library app downloaded go type in Gadianton. We read all the references in the Book of Mormon, mostly in Helaman. It has some good scriptures relating to this.
  23. Notice that new policy of punishing kids for defending themselves is working really good. I really dont think the bullies care if they are punished so if they and their prey are punished its all the cooler. Fighting against a gang is just not smart. Unless you weigh the odds. For that I have no idea what is best unless its just moving or homeschooling. If schools wont or cant protect you then they are not safe to be at.
  24. I was never bullied. My next youngest brother was horribly bullied. My older brother was always defending him. Not fighting. Just knock it off stuff. I have never understood it. Many of my friends were bullied. I remember one time filling my purse with rocks to get rid of the ex-friend and her gang of bullies from following us around calling her a cow. One swing of the purse into my ex friends face and that ended that. One of my daughters had a girl in her class that lived by us who stalked her to bully her at school. My daughter is a very calm person but thet girl just finally got to her when the girl jumped on her back and gave her a bloody nose staining her new tshirt she loved. So she smacked her hard. The girl whined but no teacher was willing to hear her. I am not for violence but it seems that some do not 'hear' any other language. It seems to me that the ones bullied are kids who are not the kind to would fight back. In other words nice kids. Once they understand, through bluff, attitude or action that they are mistaken the problem seems to disappear.
  25. They need to find someone who cares. Residents and interns get very tired not to mention they dont want to get emotionally close to children with severe problems. Are there patient advocates in the hospital? I think most every hospital does. They can help you find people to listen to you and to pay attention to the chllds history. I have seen a baby nearly die due to uncaring people. Once the parents realized how much danger he was in and talked to the right people, they changed hospitals and their son was in amazing health a year later. Keep up being proactive! It can mean the difference between life and death. Oh and you might ask if you can get the baby a blessing.
