  1. The racist roots of 'right to work' laws For a history of one of the main early crusaders of "right to work", in fact the man that coined the phrase, check this link out. Then if you feel it is biased just go ahead and google his name. 'Right to work' was never, and is not, for working people. It was always about breaking unions. Yes it is all about breaking unions and MANY say that, not just me. Study the history and ask yourself if you really believe it is about the working person.
  2. This is one of my favorite songs. Yes it starts out sad and has to be sung all the way through! So much of what this iife is about in it.
  3. PC, the last part of your post seems to have lost a quote mark somewhere or I am for sure confused!
  4. I am trying to be polite but the idea of Unions being employee servitude is just too much. Employees are 'servants' of the companies they work for. Unions help them to be reasonably recompensed for their work. Before unions became strong people lived in terrible conditions and were paid very very little. Because unions were able to organize, under extremely difficult and life threatening situations, workers gradually got safer conditions and better compensation. The one thing that was necessary was unity. With no unity they had no leverage to bargain for anything. In the so called right to work states yes you can have unions, and yes they do work for the workers, even the leeches. Because of the leeches lack of support, and I am not talking financial support, the unions leverage is greatly diminished, which is good for the company but not so much for the workers.
  5. This is sick. A pool about people being hurt? Sick.
  6. My feeling is that there would be general acceptance and help but that there might be occasions of just not thinking. Saying or doing something not thinking of the consequences and feelings hurt but not intentional. Maybe walking through a door and just not thinking that she is not going to see the door swing back to grab it. Rude in any circumstance yes but more just not thinking if in a rush. Lots of members do seem to be rushing a lot since we tend to operate on late. :)
  7. An unmarried woman has the benefits of the priesthood through her father or bishop. She is NEVER without it married or not.
  8. I reached a place of having absolutely no hope once. Its a very empty lonely place to be. What changed it for me was talking to the missionaries. They came by and were talking to us and asked if we would like to hear the lessons again. Sometimes I feel like we are wasting the missionaries time since we are believing members but sometimes we just need a boost so we, in this case my husband, accepted. At the time I remember not wanting to hear them. It seemed like it would be too painful. I do not remember what they said but it reached me. An answer is out there that will give you peace as well. Yesterday I discovered a friend of mine from college lost her husband last year. I never knew him but I did know that he was a treasure. My friend is about 10 years older than I am so about 70. How I found out is she is on my facebook and I noticed she has become more active lately. Then I read how she had gone to a singles luncheon and had enjoyed it. A little investigation and I found her husbands obit online. It struck me that here was a 70 year old woman stepping out of her comfort zone and just enjoying herself. I dont think I could have done it.
  9. I am not questioning God in any way. Just want to be clear on that. :) Not questioning the leadership of the church either. I am simply wondering what Joseph Smith meant. :) Perhaps we wont really know any time soon or perhaps he only meant that we are priestesses in partnership with priests. That actually makes sense to me. :)
  10. After reading Joseph Smiths statement I want to understand what he meant. There is no denying that women holding the priesthood would be revolutionary in the church now. So was the idea of black men holding the priesthood at one time even though Joseph Smith ordained several himself. Makes me wonder if perhaps we are more into cultural prohibitions than is good for us. I dont KNOW that we are. I just am wondering. He also seemed to see nothing wrong with women, even Emma, being sealed to more than one man which confuses me no end. lol.
  11. Thanks for the link. I have never wanted to get into this before at all so avoided such threads.
  12. I have no idea about the priesthood ever being given to women in the Bible or elsewhere. Mostly, I am interested in more about Joseph Smiths ideas on this. So one idea is that it is about women being priestesses but not holding priesthood authority? Is that correct, Vort?
  13. 30 March 1842 • Wednesday Minutes of the Proceedings of the Third Meeting of the Society — Lodge Room March 30th 1842. Meeting opened with Singing— Prayer by Prest. Joseph Smith— The house full to overflowing. Prest. J. Smith arose— spoke of the organization of the Society— said he was deeply interested that it might be built up to the Most High in an acceptable manner— that its rules must be observed— that none should be received into the Society but those who were worthy— propos’d that the Society go into a close examination of every candidate— that they were going too fast— that the Society should grow up by degrees— should commence with a few individuals— thus have a select Society of the virtuous and those who will walk circumspectly— commended them for their zeal but said sometimes their zeal was not according to knowledge— One principal object of the Institution was to purge out iniquity— said they must be extremely careful in all their examinations or the consequences would be serious Said all difficulties which might & would cross our way must be surmounted, though the soul be tried, the heart faint, and hands hang down— must not retrace our steps— that there must be decision of character aside from sympathy— that when instructed we must obey that voice, observe the Constitution that the blessings of heaven may rest down upon us— all must act in concert or nothing can be done— that the Society should move according to the ancient Priesthood, hence there should be a select Society separate from all the evils of the world, choice, virtuous and holy— Said he was going to make of this Society a kingdom of priests as in Enoch’s day— as in Pauls day — that it is the privilege of each member to live long [p. 22] This is from this site:Nauvoo Relief Society Minute Book - Details View So what do you guys think about this? I am surprised myself.

    Bummed

If she is not fond of girly stuff she will still like not stinking. If not then the people around her will. Give it to her. You know a lot of people play tough but are more girly inside in private. :) Bed and Bath are secret pleasures for many.
  15. Day by day and they add up fast. It doesnt seem like it now, maybe, but it does. I remember how happy my son was to have a year behind him. Now its 3 and a half. Day by day. :)
  16. Awww I love those kind of dogs. We had a white one who was called Romper. lol.
  17. lol I did not know that it is bad form to respond to reader reviews. I think it would be kinda fun if people were not hateful. On the other hand the author needs a thick skin. Sorry you all are getting a bit of bigotry thrown at you, PC. Love conquers all. Might be centuries but it does eventually!!
  18. We have a huge mastiff/phyranies. He is a great dog but we are going to have to look at giving him away. My husband is unable to take care of him because of his rambunctiousness. lol. And he jjust knocks me down wanting to play. Still he is smart and very loving. lol he will love a cat to death wanting to play. Not on purpose at all. He sheds like crazy. My advice is to not get one like ours unless you want ours? lol.
  19. I was talking to a member of the CoC a while back. She said even the members of that church got confused and there was talk at that time about changing the name to avoid being confused with the Jeffs group which is nothing like them. As I recall there were members of the CoC that split off due to the name change. So it seems we can all get confused on the issue. :)
  20. Sorry finger mind old age glitch! Ty for the correction. I do not agree that they have abandoned the Book of Mormon however. There are things the the RLDS have changed, priesthood for women, gay marriage, names of offices and temple purposes for instance. Oh and Joseph is supposedly a fallen prophet. Still they do the best they can all things considered. Like no revelation.
  21. I dont see how we can avoid not needing to know at least a bit about the RLDS people and church. So often nonmembers assume we are them and it helps to know where they came up with their ideas. It isnt right to judge them for things we dont know about. I hope most of what we hear is just plain rumor mongering. We see enough of it towards our church.
  22. The temple has little inserts you can use to cover a too low neckline. If I want to cover a bit too low a neckline I wear a tanktop of a matching material or just use a piece of material folded and inserted as needed. It really isnt that difficult to find something. Scarves will always work even as a simple insert.
  23. I passed that one on in Facebook this morning!
  24. That is just sick. What company of car is this from, slamjet? Going to make sure we never buy one!!
  25. lol i have no idea. I dont do goth. :) I dont really do dresses but I love my dress I bought there. They are making a lot of new designs coming out soon and in fact had a design contest going if you have your own ideas. Check them out on facebook.
