You are there. That is a help to anyone. You are not alone with those issues. I think they are almost universal even among these who attend and always have attended.

What if we had a system of a strong security lockout? Sandy Hook had one but was not proof against a firearm. If it was bullet proof and the school doors locked up and bullet proof inside as well as outside when any were breached? There would have to be a centrally located open room that could be locked up manually for those in the hallways. Ok it sounds expensive but it is 'proactively passive' in that no one would be actually harmed from the system. I would think it would be less expensive than having the school manned by security or police. Would it help?

One thing is for sure. Your branch needs you. There is supposed to be a lesson in the nursery. Not a big one but a lesson still. Last I heard anyway. Primary is as good a place to get to know some of the sisters in the church as anywhere. . For sure you are going to get to know the moms of the nursery. Take the time to chat with them about the kids and well carry on from there. Your area is growing and that is exciting! You are in the base building time! Make sure they take photos and you will be known in later times as a founder of the ward to be! As far as the home teacher goes well you feel you need to work on your testimony and he is giving you a learning experience about faith. Grab it! And be grateful yours come to visit. You are more lucky than many of us. Are you called to visit teach yet? If not ask your relief society pres. That is the single best way to get to know the sisters in the branch.

I have felt that evil, although not of my own doing, and it still comes back even in discussions like this. One thing you will gain out of this is the ability to sense evil when it comes near you. I found that keeping the scripture near, or touching even, helped me sleep at night. That probably sounds like superstition but it really did help. Keep something tangible with you as a kind of reminder of good. Stop seeing anyone who was in this with you. It has been said that even bringing the name up is an invitation of sorts to the darkness and I have found that to be true. Focus on God anytime you start to remember. I have a number of friends who were in the innocents involved in those kind of rituals and their lives are as close to be destroyed as is possible and still live. They struggle every day and you may do as well but remember that the rewards of a life lived and won are worth every minute. You are in this for the long haul and the day to day is nothing compared to the reward of winning. You can do it because Christ has already done the 'impossible' part for you. It is already done. Your part is to keep faithful to what you know is right. satan lost but you havent. You are better than he is.

Anatess, I pretty much totally agree with you on this. The question is what do we do? Idaho is like Texas in that we are used to guns. Yes the owners do tend to brag about them but we have grown up with them. My brother took his to shop at school and did a rifling pattern on the stock as his project with no complaints at all. He was given a gun at age 9. No big deal. It is people who do not understand them or use them as some kind of symbol of whatever they believe that scare me. Its impossible to know who would be sensible and who is just a gun nut. How do we decide who we can trust and who we cant? Even here in the sticks there are people who are way out of line. When I was a kid a guy went up to the dam and started target shooting a anyone who drove by. Another guy, drunk, decided to let us know he was on the way into the mine by shooting toward the camp so we could hear him I guess. Even here we have the crazies. So how do we know? We dont. I think and yes its my opinion, that we are not going to come up with a workable solution. The solution is common sense and well we know that is not always common. It is defeatest, I know, but I am afraid its true.

Trains of any kind do limit options for shoppers and casual travelers. They do work in other countries so it mght be interesting to know how they deal with luggage and shopping bags. We are pretty well set in the flexibility of driving our own cars.

No I do not say we should do that. Its obscene to use people in such calloused ways. We can do it the right way. Maybe we need to think about doing it.

It is so much better to do as the Soviet Union did and do little if any to have a transportation infrastructure. They have such good roads that even their military get bogged down in Moscow in the mud roads. In order to have good infrastructure that pays for itself we have to pay for it first. Remember the interstate highway systems? That was a huge project in its time yet how could we as a nation function without it now? We would be in the same position Russia is now an that is not a good position. I am very glad it was done before now because if it had not been it would never be done.

I had a rather interesting dream last night on this general subject. Let me summarize the dream. My husband and I were at a baseball kind of game with a bunch of young boys. A man came in the park with a rifle. He was waving it around and firing off shots. No one was hit that I knew of. He walked on up on a loop road continuing to wave his rifle around and firing it randomly. Several park workers followed him and tried to warn people off. He continued down the loop and was coming back around. A small group of officials said that I needed to go out of the park and get someone to come in and take the man out. A military base was ajoining the park so I went to find a soldier to help. Found two but they wouldnt do it but said I was welcome to the rifle. I told them I was not trained in that but ended up taking the rifle with me. As I headed back I ran into one of my kids who was at that base in the army. Several of their kids were in the park. This daughter asked what the man had told me so she said she would do it. She took the rifle, entered the turnstile to the park and raised the rifle and shot the man dead. I was shocked that she had not done any warning but then realized that others had done that and it hadnt worked. Someone asked how she felt and she asked if they had wanted him taken out and they said yes. She said then not she didnt feel bad about it. Then more officials showed up and she had to sign papers and then the newsmedia showed up and they wanted interviews. At that point I was getting very worried that she was going to be hounded by the media and lawyers. Then the dream ended. I saw no resolution in the dream. All the questions of what should happen to protect our children are still there. We can just take action or we can try to solve it in other ways. The man in the dream had not shot anyone. He was very surprised to be shot. I am not sure he ever intended to kill anyone. It is maybe right to take him out before he did but was he ever going to? If we shot people we think are going to possibly shot kids is that the proper course? I just dont know. My daughter had no doubt, publicly, but would she wonder later? Would it haunt her forever? Anyway I dont know if the dream means anything, like my mind trying to find resolution, but it seemed to me that the question was weighing on me and was trying to come up with solutions..

Which testament of the Bible are you considering? If you read the New Testament it is easier and less confusing without all old laws that are no longer applicable. As you read check the Book of Mormon references. It will be slower but will help you see how the Book of Mormon ties into the Bible. It would be most useful to use the version with the LDS reference guide. That way you get the references to the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenents and the Pearl of Great Price as you go. Unless you are lucky and have a LDS app on a reading device that references all the books at the click or tap. That would be an awesome way to study. I recommend the LDS Scriptures Premium, or the LDS Gospel Library apps. Both were free when I got mine I believe. I know the LDS Gospel Library is free. They both have the lesson guides by the way and a whole lot more.

hmmm maybe we had perfect recall so wouldnt need cameras? This is a thread I can relate to. Thinking in the box is lots harder, not to mention more boring, than out of it. Ok so why are mens public bathrooms always the closest? Go check if you dont believe me. -

hmmm... ok? Not sure where that came out of those links but... -
I am quite sure we all do, including me. Perhaps I should have said that I was amazed that a response was so confusing to me as to where it got to where they were from where I was. I might have been better to ask them.

Who was the last Republican President to balance the US budget - Ask.com The National Memo ยป The Big Lie of the Day: Republicans Balance Federal Budgets Here's an interesting take on balancing the budge that might give some food for thought. The Cost of Balanced Budgets and a Longer View on Presidents and Jobs From Ike To 2012 The point is to question Eowyn's premise that conservatives are driven by mind and liberals by heart. I might agree conservatives completely ignore their hearts but only if I am really ticked off at them. -

Nothing I drink has dregs. No koolaid either. We, liberals, have told the president that we dont want him to back down and give everything to get a deal. He is simply doing what we asked. At one point he started to compromise but since conservatives dont know the meaning of that word it has never worked before so we told him no deal. Dont do it. Let the conservatives learn what compromise means since it doesnt seem to be in their vocabulary. They back the super rich so let them feel the pain this time around. -
I am always amazed how people can read their own agendas in what other people say. Seriously.
-
I agree completely. So you are saying I should shoot all the gun fanatics and we would have no problem. Right?
-
Because it is the response called for.

They had a security lockdown in that elementary school. Lanza shot it out.

Teachers are there to teach not be body guards. Body guards require totally different training and mindsets. Why would we even ask them to do two totally different jobs at once. It makes no sense. Would the teacher be expected to wear a gun at all times? Would they be required to attend target practice regularly? Would they be trained in subduing offenders or just taught how to shoot them? Would they be required to wear body armor along with the kids? Heck teach the kids to protect themselves. Give them little pistols and train them to use them in case the teacher is subdued. Each class could be a swat training group. No one would dare come into the school with bad intentions then!
-
Yes I am strongly against guns in schools. If it happened I would recommend people home school their kids. Why are we making kids the front line for guns? There is something horribly sick about that.

Some airlines care more about safety than others, which would make me wonder about the ones that did not cancel flights.
