Understanding is a very good way to help yourself. Now to be brave and carry forth with the knowledge. I admit I even hesitated to mention the man who scared me in my first post on this thread for fear people would just think I was nuts even though it was absolutely true. Its not enough to just know. We have to be sure to take heed as well.

My son was in Iraq and is disabled by his PTSD. My husband has another problem related but not called PTSD from severe childhood abuse. Swearing is a sin. For the one committing it then its the most important sin to be concerned about. If they arent smoking then no problem there. I dont recall smoking actually being in the Ten Commandments but maybe I misread them? I absolutely do remember swearing being there.

And its not rude to protect yourself. A normal sane person will see that I would hope. Listen is a good plan. If you are wrong. Ok. If not then you save yourself a lot of grief.
-
I do understand your point and yes I am serious. Where do you draw the line on stress? Understand here that I do understand PTSD. I deal with two forms of it in my family every single day. You are missing my point. My point is that we need to deal with the stress in ways that arent problems themselves. Some fool told my son that smoking a cigarette would help him deal with his stress. Yep. It did. Now he is having a terrible time quitting. How much better to have found a way that was positive. Humor is a good way by the way. Football was a humorous point yet serious. Serious because it addresses the swearing problem and how it can cause trouble. It did for me. If you do not realize how serious people take football then you could a funny pill. :)

Oh no way. I met a guy once that I KNEW he was a serial killer. Not kidding. He HATED women big time. Sometimes we are given warnings by the spirit and it pays to stand up and listen.

Does this apply also to football? I grew up in a nonswearing household. It wasnt even an activly going to church household either. One day at a high school football game I heard a man who was very well respected in the town and very active in the church swearing up a storm stalking up and down the sidelines. Other people would glance at him and smile etc. I was shocked. Still am. What kind of an example was that man to kids? To nonmembers? Oh yes we should do as we know not so much what we see? Easy to say but its just not a working idea or excuse. I totally lost my respect for that man that day. Perhaps he needed a way to work off stress. Isnt that why we are here in a way? To learn acceptable ways to deal with life? If swearing is a good way then how about drinking? It can sure relax a person. How about sleeping around? Nothing like sex to take some stress off a person. A little grass between friends? So what do we do? I would say we find a better way. Take up jogging or boxing. I dont know. It depends on the person but that is what we do here. We find solutions to overcome our weaknesses and taking on another weakness doesnt seem to be a smart solution to me.

Your husband swearing is his problem or was. Now that you are adding a child into the mix it is thoughtful to consider if you want this behavior to carry on to your child. It is not wrong to expect righteous behavior in your spouse but he does have to change with his own freewill. Part of being a parent comes with deciding what is good for the child and what needs to be worked on harder. It is great that you are becoming sensitive to this and goes to show that you are already into 'mom' thinking. Congrats!!!

What was odd is the section title was New Gadiantons. Even so its hardly a book. Something like nine pages.

I just found out that on Nook you can get free family histories! I have found a number of very good ones for my family already. I know they arent original sources but a lot of these are published near the turn of the century and have information not readily available to us now. An example is the Pelton family. We found the book and my husbands grandfather was in it. He was born in 1840 and died in Rexburg. With that information we found him in the book, barely, and it tied him all the way back to 1609 or so. Thats a whole lot of information to work with! The really nice thing is you can see the book on film or at libraries but this way you have them at hand. There are also civil records and histories of various kinds for free! Check it out!

Temple Marriage?
annewandering replied to Hyena's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
A lot of people never marry in this life. They will have a chance later and be sealed by proxy. Yes there are temple 'divorces'. They are not done lightly and they do not take place just because a person gets a civil divorce. This has to be requested to the First Presidency. My husband had a cancellation of sealing, which is what it is called. Hey I know lots of ugly fat people who are happily married! Me for instance. Dont give up yet. -
Honoring the request of deceased spouse

He might be willing to risk her wrath but probably not smart. I wonder if there was an out like if he wanted another wife then she could ditch him and get another husband. It would only be fair. -

My husband feels the same. Its a battle every year over this.
-
This is the one battle my husband and I have every year. He wants fresh. I like fresh but the trees do dry so fast. From what I have seen, pinion pines last nicely if you dont mind having daggers in your living room. And can wear leather protective clothing to decorate it. Douglas Fir is what we had last year, I believe. My brother and their family cut us one. It lasted extremely well and did not have daggers. The trunk was a bit forbidding in size so had to make a stand for it. Of you want to be brave and try something new get a juniper tree. They are awesome and smell wonderful. They even have cute little blue cones in clusters not to mention all the blue berries. They last longer since they have different needles that save water better being more of a desert tree. Most bought trees dont last past thanksgiving without needles dropping which is why I prefer to actually get a fake tree. They are safer, in my opinion.

What? Poor people are abnormal? Why does this sound a bit insulting?

LDS Official Holidays?
annewandering replied to Hyena's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
My town has the 24th and weekend as a holiday. It may not Official church wide but you would be hard pressed to convince Oakley that its not a church holiday. Dont forget Conference weekends. Those are religious holidays for sure. -
When I was at college one of the young men quit in the middle of the first semester. He just missed his family too much. People liked him. He was a good person. He just could not be happy away from them. Perhaps a stake mission would be better for these people. I dont know. I know he would have been miserable completely away from his family for 2 years probably even when he turned 40.

Not on issue, just a question for the gents
annewandering replied to Backroads's topic in Marriage and Relationship Advice
Lately I have had a horrible dream that scared me bad. I had done an unforgivable thing in the dream that I cant even talk about. When I woke up I had to convince myself it wasnt a hidden memory it was that overwhelming. There have been three dreams like this in my life that have had lasting effects on me. They are not easy to let go of. Even though they did not involve adultery I just wouldnt tell my husband. Not really sure why but they are hard enough for me to put out of my mind without adding them to my husbands. -
It is pretty hard to base a projected image of what Christ would look like only knowing the moms genetic background. And that is a very broad ethnic background. Circusboy certainly got me to thinking on this. We are told that if we see Jesus we see the Father. We can guess God is not of middle eastern extraction. So anyway if we wanted to guess well that is all we can do.

All nice but rather naive not to mention extremely judgemental but t6hen again you are not alone so guess I am going to go finish my bread and go give thanks with my family. This thread is just making me cry for those you all critic so easily.
