  1. Can men control their baser or chivalrous leaning in business? In any workplace? Is it up to women to help them out? It was always my understanding, and remember I have five brothers, that they are perfectly capable of acting like adults same as women can. How about if we dont give them an automatic excuse to misbehave? How about if we expect them to act like adult human beings? I have a daughter who was not allowed to be in a position she was good at because she was a gasp woman. Oh and gasp despite being in a 'protected' job she was sexually harassed then held back from advancement for reporting it. The thing here is that we need to attack the problem not deny women positions that they want and can do. We need to expect proper behavior from all military personnel. We need to appropriately punish those who do not comply. I have no doubt that there would not be a problem if those were done. THEN we might consider the farfetched idea that war is not a good place for anyone, male and female. If there is no war then there is no need to worry about either sex in combat.
  2. Those are the ones. By not clean what do you mean? Serial killer books tend to have violence somewhat on the order of csi or bones.
  3. It is getting a bit warm out there. There are a few things to hate about summer and getting into hot cars rates up there.
  4. This thread is such a good example of seeking miracles instead of faith. Faith does not come from miracles. Miracles are seen because of faith. It is so amazing that anyone can live in this world and not see miracles every single day. We need to open our eyes and see the miracles God does in our lives and others instead of harping on why we dont see them with our eyes closed.
  5. Of course. :) Otherwise good Samaritans hardly applies! And yes temp is more of an issue. Sometimes its not the only issue however. Kids can even get themselves in trouble. One time, when I was three, my mom and a friend were picking chokecherries. Us kids were playing around in the car. It was on a slight slope so naturally my next younger brother, the one who always was getting us in trouble, shifted the gear to neutral and away we went. Right into the large creek overturned. Now my mom was standing right next to us. Can you imagine what we could have gotten in trouble doing if she wasnt even there? It is just not a good idea to leave young children in a car untended. Or anywhere for that matter dont you think?
  6. I very much like Anne Perry. She has a new series set in the early 1900's but man the prices just knock me out. That is why I go to the ebooks on B&N. There are 2 million free books on there. Many of those are new authors. Amazon has the same for Kindle. Not only do you help new authors get started but you get true bargains. The first in series are often free and they charge a low fee for the later ones. And I know that is not your question. lol. Mostly I am not fond of main stream authors. If you like sf I can recommend Terry Pratchett. He has started a new series that I have not read yet but his disc world are second to no one. My favorite serial killer author is Kay Hooper. She writes a great story and is clean. **** Francis writes great mysteries from the horse racing world. I am not into gambling but the insight is quite educational. I love Tony Hillerman. Lots of insight into Navajo customs with the detective stories. James Patterson has some excellent books out there. Some of his recent series are directed to young adult so are very clean. Iris Johansen has some very good thrillers. Always enjoy a Jonathan Kellerman book. Oh, you should know one of his main characters is a middle aged gay cop. Not pushy or anything but does give some of his background as a gay cop. Not an easy life to live. His series predates the current gay propaganda so is very mild. His wife, Faye, writes a good mystery with lots of Jewish culture intertwined. C.L. Bevill has a great series called Bubba. She is a new author and the books are inexpensive. They are mild mysteries with lots of good humor and NO sex or graphic violence if any violence. She also has a shapeshifter series and a Louisiana swamps paranormal series, the Lake series, that are good. The shapeshifter probably has some sex, dont remember, but the Louisiana one does not. Ok I will stop. lol.
  7. Sure. If we have a list of targets we can use the attacks more efficiently by prioritizing. Or were you asking if we should do this at all? Think about this. If you use a cyber attack at an enemy how many people die? Now if you use a high powered bomb how many will die? Secondly, if you use a cyber attack is there collateral damage? Is the target very narrow and specified as to purpose? Is it cheaper, more expensive or more accurate to cyber attack prime targets or with bombs? I like the idea actually. As a side benefit we keep our knowledge on the cutting edge to defend ourselves from similar attacks. :)
  8. Sometimes there are no specific examples. For me it is something I just knew. As time has gone by there have been incidents that support my belief but nothing that proved it. In fact if we have proof/evidence we have no need of faith. We are not here to prove. We are here to have faith. Some of the things that supported my belief are: When our babies died. When we were sealed as a family forever. When our children were born. When my dad died. When I have sat quietly and felt the spirit fill my soul with joy. When I read the Book of Mormon and am touched to tears. When I taste fresh peaches off the tree. All things testify of Him. If we listen.
  9. The church didnt do the massacre so its kinda hard to handle that part. :) but yes you have understood what I mean.
  10. I appreciate that you are defending the church. So am I. The church finally put all the facts together in a book about mountain meadows. It had been used by the antis for years but now they have no grounds for claiming a cover up. They can claim that but we know it is not true. That is what should have been done long ago. It is easier to see that now with hindsight of course. Hindsight is what is useful to see where we should have done something different or better. There is nothing wrong with that if we learn from it. God does not make mistakes. Jesus does not make mistakes. We, however, are neither of them and do make mistakes. We make up the church so the church makes mistakes as we make them. Do you see what I mean, Selek? If not then lets just assume we do not understand what the other is trying to say and let it go at that. :)
  11. I figure a kid over 6 or 7 is old enough to leave in a car for a bit unless its hot. Or they are brats. Or having a bratty day. I suppose you should know that I lived in the extremely hot deserts in S. Cal for a dozen years or so. Every single year kids died there from being left for a minute or two in cars. It was always heartbreaking and the parents were broken from it. Didnt stop it from happening. I decided I would rather be a old lady people laughed at than a person who didnt want to interfere with some parents child raising practices. That extreme heat is moving north in recent years so will do the same here on hot days. Laugh, it doesnt bother me but for every child some interfering busy body saves, the laughing is worth it.
  12. When the church is manned by people it will make mistakes. It was a mistake to not deal with Mountain Meadows Massacre years before. Dont know that it would have made a difference but it would have been the right thing to do. Sometimes mistakes are made, not by the church but by the members as a whole. It has been made clear that if we reject truth then it is taken from us. The United Order is an example. I dont know if polygamy is or not. Anyway, I am sure we could dig up examples if we try hard enough. The point really is that until Christ returns publicly we are going to be making mistakes. Best to recognize them and move on.
  13. The worst part of all this is that it is NOT illegal. We let the congress make it legal and we thought it would not be used? Time to open our eyes instead of wearing blinders.
  14. I have watched cars for a couple of minutes waiting to parents to come back if there was no immediate danger. Then I let them know its a terribly dangerous thing to do with their kids. I have never called anyone but would in a flash if they were left over a couple of minutes and there was immediate danger like heat or cold. You know I could have been a pedophile watching those kids instead of an old grandmother wanting the kids to be safe. It just isnt safe for so many reasons.
  15. When my husband and I were sealed, all our children, that had been born at that time, were sealed to us. Four. All were born before the previous marriage sealing was dissolved, which is commonly referred to as a temple divorce. It is true however that children are sealed to parents. If the sealing between parents are broken they are not unsealed to parents but they are not sealed to parents who are not sealed. According to Addenex, the sealing of children to the actual parents after previous sealing/s of parent/s is dissolved does not NEED to be done again. If so that has changed since my kids were sealed to my husband and me. You are best served to go talk to your bishop and he can give you the information that applies to you and your situation.
  16. Why would you not both be sealed to your child? My husband and I were sealed to all our kids after his temple divorce was done. I think that there is a misunderstanding here.
  17. The reason it seems to turn into that type of discussion is that is what it boils down to isnt it? Not so much liking to kill people but just not caring if they suffer or die. It is either we help them or we dont care enough about their welfare to want to be bothered about helping them. We can put pretty words on it to make it not seem so black and white but that doesnt change the basic facts.
  18. I dont agree those are natural instincts. Since when do we have any instinct to kill other people? Propagating is an instinct and our society has, or had ways, to keep that instinct controlled and used for the benefit of society. As civilized people we direct our instincts in ways that satisfy the instincts and maintain order. There are three basic natural instincts. Self survival, tribe/group survival and species survival. All of those would be served by universal health care. Instead we fall into the group that sees a wounded individual and kill it off. Perhaps that makes the whole stronger but we, being civilized, realize that many who have health issues and are the 'wounded' are there by circumstance not weakness. As an 'advanced' civilization we extend that care to those who do have genetic health issues, not being willing to cull the weak. At least most of the civilized world does. I would have to argue that we do have a right to health care by fact of birth as human.
  19. Sorry but you are wrong. I have seen it and it is a fact. One thing I find curious about all this battle against health care for everyone is that it fights against basic human instincts. We have a species survival instinct that seems to have been dissipated or diluted by something. It reminds me of that bible verse about how the fathers will turn against the children and the children against the fathers neither having any NATURAL affection. If it is a natural instinct then why are we not listening to it?
  20. lol and I thought it meant that he was so low he would even walk with Jesus Christ. I was thinking he was atheist. Ok I dont really get it at all but it seemed like an insult to Jesus to me. That was the gadianton reference Maybe it was an insult to them all! And yes it was the Obama Christie walk that I was referring to.
  21. The gun people are much more vocal and paranoid than ever in my life time. Even my family is and my dad was a gunsmith so they have always had guns. Its the paranoia that is different. And frightening. You are younger so maybe that is why you dont see the difference? It is very much in evidence even on here. I saw the oddest insult today. 'He would walk the Jersey shore with Jesus Christ". No one commented on how odd an insult that was. It is a perfect example of how satan/gadiantons are making big inroads.
  22. Its politics but not partisan. We elect people we know are immoral and unethical. We tolerate and defend everyone no matter how deep in sin they are. It is really hard anymore to call people evil instead of insane. Insanity mimics evil pretty well. We are put in positions of defending fairness and be thought by both sides to be defending sin. It was a whole lot easier when we could just hate people without understanding how they got that way! Yes we hate pedophiles but then we discover they were abused the same way as children and got twisted. Where do we stop the hate but not cross over the line to enabling sin? It really was easier when it was all black or white. It sure isnt that way now. That is very good in one way and very bad in another. People are very confused about it all now, which is a very tricky maneuver for satan to pull. (satan is the overlord of the gadiantons after all.)
  23. People do have power over us whether we call it power or not. Your employer tells you what to do and you do it or lose your job and paycheck. The government has power over you in that if you do not follow the laws you can end up in jail and/or lose your property. Corporations have power over you in that if you participate in commerce in anyway, they decide the circumstances and what you have to pay for the product or service. The power is not imaginary. We can deny it, same as my brother did regarding taxes, and we WiLL pay the penalty. Now if we have honest people in power then its not a problem. Gadiantons are far from honest. Can anyone honestly say that those in power over us today are honest and have our interests at heart? Isnt that the definition of a gadianton?
  24. Are heterosexual people not hetero until they have sex? That makes no sense. I do agree that none of it has a place in boy scouts. Boy scouts is not about sex of any kind. Still if I had a son in boy scouts I would like to know what the plans were for camping. Ahead of there being an issue. I do not envy the leaders trying to find a good balance.
  25. How do we know who is gadianton and who is just stupid? Or are they the same? I have seen people start out in politics and gain a strong support. They stand strong and firm on doing right by their constituents. Then overnight they are different people. Dont know if they were ever the people we thought they were or they have been compromised by campaign funding or what but they change and it is not for the good of the people. Their voting always favors people with money. And it pays them. Literally. When is it going to change to more than being bought? In the Book of Mormon these people started threatening and assassinating their opponents and their opponents families. While that does happen it hasnt gotten to be common place yet. Those people in positions of power in government are beholden not to the people who elected them but to the ones who pay for them to be elected. It matters not what kind of people they are in their lives. It is about how much they will be sold for. One man was elected recently to high office despite being immoral and unethical. Another 'flashes' himself to women on social networks and is running again for office. It makes no difference in them being elected. There are so many like those two that are in public view as power players. How do they get there and stay? We do have votes. Why dont we boot them and keep them out? We enable crooked people to get power and keep it even knowing what they are. We are like mobs. Someone yells kill and we go after the target with viciousness. If we dont stop and think we are no better than the gadiontons. We enable them to do what they want. And we ADMIRE and defend their actions. Right now, as you read this, you are thinking, yes the other side does this and they need to stop it now or we are lost. I would take bets on that. Maybe its time to stop and wonder if WE are the ones who are the problem not that other person. In politics and business it might pay to be paranoid about the motivations of those we support.
