  1. Soggy Washington ... we get rainbows alot ... if we didin't it would be scary! Many, many years ago when my mom's appendix ruptured her surgeon was late to her surgery because he had sold all he had and packed his bags (what??) and gone to the desert outside of Tucson with a bunch of people for the rapture ... guess he figured he better get back to work when it didn't happen!
  2. Nope ... not this spring ... saw a rainbow.
  3. Not sure how to add a link ... but one of the songs that truly touches me is Jesus Was No Ordinary Man. there are several great videos.
  4. Anything that brings people closer to Christ is a good thing ... not saying that we don't want everyone and their uncle to be a part of the church but if people are really trying to come closer to the Savior then it just opens their hearts more and makes them that much more ready when they hear the gospel. I know of an elderly sister in Peru who had been taught the lessons 9 times before her heart finally heard them. Instead of worrying how others pray maybe we need to inspect our own back yard and see what kind of work we need to do on ourselves so that we will be able to be the example to others.
  5. Do you have access to home made soap? That stuff is amazing ... I have seen it take out stuff that would never have come out other wise. Maybe a soap making class for Relief Society ... that's where I learned.
  6. Vain repetition ... prayers that don't make it past the ceiling.
  7. No such thing as half a lie or half a truth ... it is or it isn't. One of the things we live with here is the consequences we suffer because of other peoples choices. You owe your children a righteous priesthood holder for a father. How are you going to live when everytime you look at them you know you haven't lived up to your obligations? Do the right thing ... no matter how much it hurts. Choices=consequences.
  8. The Relief Society birthday is next week ... do some reading on the early Releif Society ... those sisters where amazing and knew what having a heart meant.
  9. Pay your tithing first if you want to have the funds to pay your bills .... take the Lord at His word and "prove" that it works. When I finally got my head around tithing I discovered that I am never without what I need ... and even though it is a promise I am still amazed at what happens. Now I am afraid to not pay it. My van was side swiped by a motorcycle and needed extensive repairs (not as much as the rider) during the waiting for checks and such my washer died. When all was said and done I was to the good exactly what I had to put out for my new washer ... it works. For business purposes to be legal you need to deposit your income and keep detailed records ... also if possible put yourself on a salary. Makes things much easier ... but some times it is not practical.
  10. The puprose is the same for all of us and everyone will have the chance to hear the gospel ... either here or on the other side ... then it's up to them.
  11. Keeper of the Stars by Tracy Byrd. Great song with agreat mesage ... we used it for my folks 60th.
  12. Get it cleared up with your Bishop before you go .... having that hanging over you when you are supposed to be focused on the work just brings you down. I know of 3 people who didn't come clean so to speak before they left, one came home a year early, 2 finished but were excommunicated when they came home. Do it right the first time. The papers may be in but they can be delayed until you are ready. A mission is not easy but done right it is so worth it. Goos luck.
  13. I agree ... if it is the service that you decide on just remember that our service men and women go places the missionaries are not allowed ... live your religion the best you can and your light will serve the Lord where ever you go. Good Luck
  14. We are here on earth to serve .. to me the prayer lists in the temples are a way for us to be of service at that time. I have also always looked at it that if one prayer is good, how much more can be accomplished by a united group of people in the most sacred places on earth coming together on behalf of their brothers and sisters. Short story about the prayer rolls ... a friend who considers herself multi denominatoonal call me and said she had a friend in her town who was a member of the church but had been estranged from it for many many years, this person had cancer and was scared out of her mind, my friend asked what she could do .. I told her to call her Bishop and then put her name on the prayer roll at the temple. This was done (a very positive experience for her BTW). A month later the person with cancer (she knew her name had been placed on the prayer roll) called her and said she need to talk to her ... her cancer was in remission. Was it just the natural course of things or the results of the prayers? Who knows but I know where my faith lies ....
  15. Many many many years ago when parvo first showed up I lost my entire first litter of puppies to the disease. I was promised in a Priesthood blessing that I would have these babies to raise at some future time. Good enough for me.
  16. There is nothing wrong with being alone ... to often members of the church equate being single to being unfulfilled .... nonsense. If you are not happy within yourself no one else in the whole world can make you happy. You have to be happy and at peace with you and with the Lord ... once that is accomplished then you can add to. Listen to the Spirit, do what is best for you and your children .... and then let the Lord work it out. Being single has never been a problem for me ... aslong as I do what I need to I have been promised that alll will betaken care of to my benefit. I am single at 57, happy and the result of marriage 61 years and counting ... my fondest memory of childhood is seeing my parents kneeling together holding hands and praying ... settling has never ever been an option. But if the relationship you are in isn't the way you want it at your age ... make it what you want it or move on because trust me after 61 years you have a whole different set of issues to deal with and only true eternal love is going to get you through. Remember who you are ...
  17. Thanks hordak ... I forgot about that one. Thanks to Hijolly as well. While this is not basic doctrine I need something for this young man to read ... it is just wrong in so many ways to tell him to go ask someone else ... showing him Elder Snows comment and the Proclamation to the World is so much better than saying oh we don't talk about it. Doesn't need to be deep and in depth ... it just needs to be. Thanks for the help.
  18. Well considering the amount of false doctrine that gets thrown around I prefer to address the basics of the questions. And considering he doesn't have a clue what a line of authority is ....YM leaders are falling down on the job. Just because one is JUST a SS teacher doesn't mean we can't reach these kids.
  19. Heaven with out my dogs?????? Really ???? Guess I'll have to look for Door #2. If couldn't I leave them behind in an evacuation why would I go somewhere they couldn't go? BTW ... I like dogs!
  20. This is my first time to post a question so please be gentle I teach the 14-15 yr olds in SS and I truly love those kids ... however I have to work to keep ahead of them. I have a young man in my class who has only been a member a little over a year ... he is from Peru and was raised Catholic and seems to be having some issues seperating Catholic and LDS beliefs. Another thread here helped me straighten out his confusion about the apostles, this week he had another bombshell and this is where I need the help. I have been so impressed with the number of well read people here that turning to you for help seems natural. I need scriptural proof of our Heavenly Mother ... now I realize that in the standard works there is little or nothing written ... what I am looking for is possibly statements fom latterday prophets and apostles concerning this ... statements that we would consider authoritative. I tried explaining the logic of the matter ... why would we have parents on earth if we didn't have them in heaven, that the Savior did what He had seen His Father do, everything is under the direction of the Father, sealings are a required ordinace under the authority of the priesthood etc., he also had no idea of his line of authority in the priesthood ... gotta get after his leaders on that one. Any help would be great.
  21. Not surprising considering Wally World's track record with treating employees lousy ...
  22. Called to Serve ... that does it for me. Used on all 5 of my folks mission farewells.
  23. I liked a quote I read by Elder Packer ... something to the effect that people think we follow blindly but in fact we are not blind because we see. I am not a blind follower ... in fact I was released as 1st counselor in the RS when the RS Pres was gone all summer because the Bishop then did not want to deal with me. If it comes down from the prophet I have no problem following ... I know where his authority comes from ... my bishop I have no problem following becuase I have seen in action how he follows the promptings of the spirit. Other problems I take to the Lord and let Him work it out. But the Lords house is also a house of order ... if there is someone called to be a leader, until they are released they wear the mantle .. follow and then quietly take your concerns to a higher authority or to the top .... of course if they said jump off a bridge or something then to follow is just plain stupid ... by their fruits ye shall know them. If it is within the cover of church policy then following .. for me ... is the best policy. Obedienance is a big thing in the gospel or if you don't like that word how about bending to the will of God ... we have the perfect example ... the Savior was obedient in all things. I guess it is a matter of where you are in your progression on how you choose to follow.
  24. I can give an example from one of my folks missions. They were doing leadership training and came across a brother in the stake presidencey who begged them to teach him. He said he knew that what the SP was doing was wrong but he also knew that if he followed what his leader asked of him he would be blessed. It's not about getting the SP in trouble but rather making sure we stay out of trouble ... the Lord will handle the rest. As for why should we bear our testimony when we don't feel like it ... well for me it would not be about how I felt but a matter of what the Lord was using me for. Life isn't easy ... but if done right ... it is so very worth it. We are here to serve ... if bearing my testiminy is how I can be of sevice then so be it. That's just the way I look at life .... good thing we all have our free agency. Like I tell my SS kids choices choices choices ...
  25. I am not sure I understand why folks like this get all wound up about what is going to happen. If we look to ourselves and our families ... making sure we stand in holy places and do all that we can do with our attention fixed firmly on the Savior and his prophet we have absolutely nothing to worry about .... no matter what happens we will be fine.
