  1. Lets face it, you can't beat our chocolate either The American chocolate is greasy and leaves a nasty aftertaste, like vegetable oil. And you cannot get REAL fish and chips in America. The ones that are available are disgusting - or at least the ones I found. Having said that, one thing America does beat us in is food portions. I think I was visibly shocked when I visited a fast food restaurant and realised their small portions were equivalent to our large portions.

    new phone...

I'm familiar with both blackberries and iphones. I personally much prefer the iphone. I'm not an apple fanboy by any definition of the phrase, however the iphone is definitely one of their better creations. It is one of the most useful devices I have ever purchased. Having said that, I jailbroke my iphone in order to get more functionality out of it, including the ability to unlock it to use other networks - jailbreaking an iphone is not illegal, but could possibly void the warranty if they find out you have done that. As a brief example of some of its useful features to me personally: - The ability to remotely control your home or work computer via several different methods over 3G internet - You can send documents from your iphone to your home printer over 3G internet - Build in application for youtube videos to make it easier to stream them over 3G - GPS. Great for when lost in the middle of no-where :) - Immediate synchronization with several popular online calendars. I have a gmail account, and the iphone will automatically update itself with any appointments I add to that gmail calendar, and alert me when any appointments are due. It also has this ability with exchange servers. - Push e-mail. I have both my work e-mail (exchange) and home email (gmail) being pushed to my phone. That means, as soon as I get an e-mail in either of my accounts, I immediately get a message about it on my phone. So, effectively, I can use e-mail instead of text messages. This is opposed to pull e-mail which most phones have, which will just check every half an hour or so for e-mails. - Voice Over IP. This hasn't taken off so well yet because smart phones are not that popular yet. However, if two smart phone owners both have the same voip application installed on their phone, they can have free phone calls between each other. Also, phone calls are considerably cheaper on voip when calling none voip users. And that's just the tip of the iceberg :).

    new phone...

    Any particular reason why?
  5. Probably the power supply unit. Unless there was a power surge, the hard drive is likely fine. It should be fairly easy to get any data off it - this is assuming they are both windows computers of course. Different operating systems use different file systems, which might make it a little more difficult.
  6. Take the hard drive out and plug it into a computer that works. If you don't want to open your working computer up, you can purchase external hard drive caddies which you can connect the hard drive to and then connect it via USB. (e.g. Akasa E-SATA / USB to IDE / SATA Hard Drive Enclosure : 3.5inch Hard Drive Enclosures : Maplin - they do come cheaper than this if you look around) Once this is done, you can browse the second hard drive like a USB stick. This is assuming the hard drive is not damaged.
  7. Don't forgot a firewall a very vital part of securing any network or stand alone computer.
  8. Did that total include just members online, or all computers connected to the website in total?
  9. Is the reporter supposed to have a -really- irritating voice?
  10. Lol I saw that this morning. I was thinking if that had happened here, health and safety officials would have had a field day.
  11. Imagine if we had a repeat of September 1752 where they took away 11 days to speed the calendar up to the correct position of the earth? All those poor people who had a birthday during those 11 days had to wait until the year after... I dread to think of the problems if they had computers back in those days Actually, having that said, the Gregorian Calendar is NOT 100% accurate. Within a few hundred years (I don't remember exactly how many) we'll be one day behind again and somehow they are going to have to to remove a day from the calendar. I suggest we let our descendants deal with that mess when the time comes to it
  12. No, it was an exception. I've not seen it elsewhere however this was definitely listed as websites to give to investigators in the mission pack given to each new missionary in that area. I'm assuming a mission president (or people who work on his behalf) wrote the content of the mission pack at some point. I must admit I was quite surprised that they allowed it, the church has no jurisdiction over that website and its content - the owners could change the stance they have towards the church at any moment and/or publish something as doctrine when it isn't. Also, if I remember correctly, contact with friends is allowed, but within moderation. I haven't seen the white handbook in over a year though so can't be 100% sure.
  13. Lost sheep, I just saw your big bad wolf 3D animation and I really liked it. What software do you use, if you don't mind me asking? EDIT: no worries, noticed it's at the end of your video.
  14. Wow, talk about lurking. Registered for four years and less than two posts for each year (at the time of this post) You need to be more talkative
  15. Nice animation lost sheep. I don't know the first thing about designing in flash - I'm envious Try pressing CTRL + F5 a couple of times together on the youtube video page that has the issue. Seems a silly fix, however I've seen this problem several times and this hard refresh always resolves it - it may be a different problem with you though. I've not actually gotten around to working out what causes it yet. Second solution would be to use the flash uninstall tool from adobe here (you need this tool to remove it properly): How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control And then reinstall it with the latest version. Also bear in mind java and javascript are not the same thing. Javascript needs to be enabled in the browser.
  16. This would be counter productive. You only need to choose one. If you have them all running, they will interfere with each other and cause your computer to slow down quite drastically. Most anti virus packages also include a firewall and spyware detection.
  17. Why? The hardware is most likely fine, the software just needed sorting out. This could have been done in half an hour with a full operating system reinstall - this sorts 99.99% of virus infections. It's very rare that they infect a place that reinstalling windows wouldn't wipe over. This could have been done for free. AVG free isn't as good as it used to be. It's a bit more bloated now - still not bad for free. I don't have that much experience with home anti virus packages, mainly the corporate ones. However nod32 has rarely failed me. I've only used the corporate version, but the home edition should use the same signatures. Also clamwin is a good free alternative. I've recently used this detect all traces of a virus that nothing else, including paid for alternatives seemed to find. The only problem with this is that it doesn't have a real time scanner. In other words, you have to manually tell it to run a scan of a specific file or your entire hard drive. The short answer is possibly. Someone may have sent you a link on messenger or facebook which when clicked on, infected your computer with a virus. But facebook and live messenger will not directly have infected your computer. You need a firewall as well - some of these software packages come with one.
  18. Happy birthday!! Welcome to the old fogeys club. I'll join you in about 20 years time
  19. Some young people are capable of the most extraordinary feats. While the average parental assessment would obviously return the answer "no, she should not be going"; her parents know her better than anyone else and as her father is an experienced sailor himself I'm sure he is capable of judging her ability better than most. Forgetting her age for the moment, I would also imagine (with her family background) she has been sailing since she was a toddler. That's almost 14 years experience.
  20. Make it idiot-proof, and someone will make a better idiot.
  21. I do sincerely doubt he will allow this. There are many things on this forum that a missionary shouldn't really be seeing throughout the duration of his mission. It's just another temptation that isn't really necessary. In the few mission areas that I am familiar with, the rule in the white handbook of only visiting official LDS websites is pretty much stuck to with the exception of one, which may have allowed them to visit fairlds.org. The reason for this is that they allow their missionaries to give out that website to investigators (whether rightly or wrongly) and it would seem silly if they weren't allowed to look at it themselves.
  22. This reminds me of something that happened to me as a child. I don't remember this taking place, just what my parents have told me. My family owned a rest home for the elderly, and a lot of the bedrooms had tubs available for the residents to keep their false teeth. I was following my mother around the various bedrooms, she cleaned the sink and it was my job to clean the tubs the teeth were normally in. I wasn't aware of their purpose however and as it was the middle of the day, they were all empty up until about the eighth room. As I opened the tub, I was greeted with a pair of false dentures smiling up at me; I nearly jumped out of my skin in fright. As you can imagine, in every room after that, I cleaned the sink and my mum cleaned the false denture tubs.
  23. I'm not entirely sure that whether to ask the questions or not is left to the discretion of the interviewer. As far as I know, they have to ask the questions regardless.
  24. Finally! Some male input
