All temple ordinances are done "live." Only some of the instruction is done with a movie. This was introduced in the 1950s because the Switzerland temple (the first temple in Europe) had to accommodate so many languages. The Salt Lake Temple and the Manti Temple are the only two that do not use a movie. I think it is more because it would destroy the ascetics of the architecture than anything else.

I think the prophet will know the time and day. But he will know only at that time and day when Jesus comes suddenly to his Temple and says, "Now!"

Actually, Brodie's approach was that Smith was either insane or just a brilliant fraud, but the problem is she twists the facts to come to her conclusions. The difference between her work and RSR is that RSR simply presents the facts as accurately as possible and lets the reader decide. In fact Bushman's approach was to present Smith's story as Smith would have seen himself. Brodie on the other hand had her conclusions already defined before she did her research, and chose only the facts and evidence that furthered her preconceived assertions.

Evil very rarely is so obtuse. But Obama is moreso than others.

Let's see... In the US: Hawaii, California, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New York. Outside the US: Mexico, Canada, and Holland.

I have seen the LDS Church welfare system, and I know for a fact that we can take care of the poor, the downtrodden, and the down and out without one dime of help from any government.

Politically, I want laws and customs to be as localized as possible. As we see, when we raise morals to the federal level, we lose freedom. And this goes both ways. Take gay rights. By having liberal places like San Francisco, there is a place for gays to go and live in peace, and at the same time, we have more traditional values practiced elsewhere. So neither group feels like they are being imposed on by the other. This is the great strength of the United States. It allows us to be united and yet not all agree on the best way to live.

The Cross Offensive

Well, I think it has something to do with being the symbol used by persecutors of the saints a century ago and anti-Mormons today. -
I just hope this scandal will be enough to keep them away from the 2010 census.

Sounds like you need to be called to be a Sunday School teacher. What's your bishops number? -
I didn't want to start another thread, although maybe I should have. So here is the tangent. I just saw a commercial on TV by the cast of the tv series Scrubs. They were sponsored by "Rock the Vote" with a message of "Demand Health Care". I thought Rock the Vote was supposed to be issue neutral, and just to encourage people to vote, but not to tell them what to vote for? Am I mistaken? I am very disappointed that ABC would be so biased on this issue.

Well, is your life better or worse for your decisions? What about the lives around you? Your spouse, children? -
yup, exactly. How about we invade Mexico, and just arrest all of their corrupt leaders and police. Or we could sanction the Mexican government to get them to stop living in a feudal caste system. There is a lot we could be doing that doesn't involve importing the poor from a broken country.

The Cross Offensive
bytebear replied to lattelady's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
I have had conversations with people who claim LDS aren't Christians because of the cross (or lack of it). I ask them if a cross is required to be worn, or to be adorned on architecture to be saved. They hem and haw, and after a while they admit that having a physical cross has no bearing on salvation. Similarly LDS believe that no one is going to go to hell or be damned or whatever for wearing a cross. So, ultimately, both LDS and other Christians believe the exact same thing in the saving power of a physical symbol of the cross. It doesn't save you and it doesn't damn you. -

Well, based on D&C 46:14, you can lean on Joseph Smith's testimony. If you believe he was a prophet, then believe his words. -
Because the government is giving those incentives. We need to dry the well.

13 To some it is given by the Holy Ghost to know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that he was crucified for the sins of the world. 14 To others it is given to believe on their words, that they also might have eternal life if they continue faithful. D&C 46:13-14 -

Isn't this standard anti-Mormon posturing. Don't defend your position but simply change topics? I don't know who you are, but I expect better of you. -
I love these incidents just to see Pelosi's reactions. Priceless.

We don't need to close the borders. Just remove the incentives and they will voluntarily leave.
-
I understand the logic, but I don't agree with it. The same jobs you describe used to be (and still are in non-border states) held by teenagers. Those low paying jobs with no health insurance issues are perfect for teens who are just getting extra spending money, and are covered on their parents insurance. The simple solution to illegal immigration is to raid businesses, and fine the company doing the hiring. Soon, the jobs will dry up, and the immigrants will return to their home countries, and no new immigrants will come in when they know there is no work for them here.

well, her sitcom was, anyway. I thought some of her award hosting stints were genius.

No, and Jesus didn't ask for just good feelings. He said "By their fruits ye shall know them." What church, per capita, has done more good for mankind than the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? -
Or we could simply modify a few issues with the current system. I remember the first time around, we heard that the world would explode without health care reform. That was, what, 15 years ago? Seems like things have run as they always do. The private sector can handle the ebb and flow of supply and demand without any push from the government.
