I'm currently reading Scott Adams book, "Win Bigly" which is about Trump being a "master persuader", that he uses very specific techniques to get what he wants, and how you have to set your world view to his to understand why he's winning, and everyone else is not. Essentially, everyone is predicting things that aren't true. Call it "fake news' if you want, but from Trump will lose to markets will crash to Russia hacking. It's all wrong, and it continues to be wrong. Adams was one of the few who has been 100% correct on his predictions about Trump. I highly recommend you read his blog. He's also a dyed in the wool liberal, who just happens to see beyond the veil of liberalism.

I pretty much get my headlines from Google News and Drudge Report. I also listen to AM talk radio, which is a good mix of local and national issues.

Dear IT people:Do I need an antivirus program?

I used Windows Defender. Part of Windows 10. Works great for me. -
And the order of greatness is IV, V, VI, Rogue I, VIII, VII, Clone Wars, II, III, I, Christmas Special

I thought Lora Dern's character was utterly unlikable. And her neck thing and weird hair was neither fashionable or alien enough to be effective. I thought Princess Leia's Superman scene was ridiculous. I didn't mind the casino scene, but didn't care for the let the horse things free. That whole sequence felt too forced, especially with the Oliver Twist kids.

I've considered doing these. I've downloaded many of the "Can You Escape?" phone games, and they are quite entertaining.

I wonder if when we don't feel the spirit for a while, it takes some time to retrain ourselves to feel his presence. Maybe you just aren't in tune yet. I also find that when I am helping others and not thinking of myself, I get that spirit more than when I am trying to just get it for self benefit. Maybe do some volunteer work, and focus on helping others, and you can get your groove back.

I don't think that Romney being a former Stake President hurts either, but I also think his involvement in the Olympics is more of a draw for the state. Whenever anyone says they like him because he's a Mormon, I think of Harry Reid who couldn't win dog catcher in the state. And, frankly, I wasn't all that impressed with Hatch's Mormondom, and feel like if push came to shove, he choose politics over religion. Ironically, I think Romney would choose religion over politics.

I like Romney the man, I like his policies and ideology. I like Trump's policies (so far). I do not like Trump the man, but his "show" is working brilliantly. Romney has no "show". He just is. And he doesn't get that Trump is a showman. So, he made himself look foolish. I am also not a Utahn, so I have no horse in this race, but I do think this is Romney's seat if he wants it, for two reasons. 1) Based on my discussions with Utahns, they don't like Trump, at all. They love Romney. McCain got 60% of the Utah vote, Romney got 91%. Trump got 45%. So, even if you think Romney blew it with Trump supporters, the voters in Utah show they agree with Romney. They do not like Trump. and 2) The 2002 Olympics.

What should someone search when looking for a wife?
bytebear replied to SMARTchaser's topic in General Discussion
(unless you are going on a mission, in which case just "hang out" and don't get attached) Date to mate, but when you know it's wrong, just rip the band-aid off, and move on. After a year, you'll know one way or the other. -
Our whole house is sick. Every one is coughing. It's terrible.

For Latter-day Saints, identification of a person's lineage in latter-day Covenant Israel is made under the hands of inspired Patriarchs through patriarchal blessings that declare lineage. Elder John A. Widtsoe, an Apostle, declared, "In giving a blessing the patriarch may declare our lineage-that is, that we are of Israel, therefore of the family of Abraham, and of a specific tribe of Jacob. In the great majority of cases, Latter-day Saints are of the tribe of Ephraim, the tribe to which has been committed the leadership of the Latter-day work. Whether this lineage is of blood or adoption it does not matter" (p. 73; cf. Abr. 2:10). The patriarchal blessings of most Latter-day Saints indicate that they are literal, blood descendants of Abraham and of Israel. Those who are not literal descendants are adopted into the family of Abraham when they receive baptism and confirmation (see Law of Adoption). They are then entitled to all the rights and privileges of heirs (TPJS, pp. 149-50). This doctrine of adoption was understood by ancient prophets and apostles (e.g., Rom. 11; 1 Ne. 10:14; Jacob 5; cf. D&C 84:33-34). http://eom.byu.edu/index.php/Ephraim

And know that even if your husband never embraces the restored gospel, the church's position is that family harmony is critical and every attempt to maintain that should be made, even if temporary sacrifices must be made (i.e. waiting 18 months, or paying what you agree upon in tithes). -
request for suggestions re missionary finding
bytebear replied to askandanswer's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
It seems we did a lot more in my home ward than when I was on my mission in regards to regular basketball, "road shows". Our building was older and had a full stage, with curtains and lights. They don't make them like that any more. One other big pet peeve of mine. The church sign. It says "Visitor's Welcome" but it doesn't give the hours of service. I think the church would have a lot more visitors if they posted the time for Sacrament meetings. Can someone look into making that happen? -

Community activities too. Just be a presence in the town. We did various church activities and invited the community. "Meet the Mormons" kind of thing. We also did a lot of street contacts. We'd just say, "Can we ask you a couple questions?" and ask a series of questions leading to a doctrinal truth like eternal families. Really, the best thing is to put yourself out there. In a small town, everyone knows the missionaries. You stand out, and so use that to your advantage. Wave. Be overly helpful. Chat. Get to know people's names who you run into regularly. We used to ride the bus every day, and chat with the bus drivers and passengers. Captive audience. -
I use it because it does illustrate the next question you get asked, which is usually, "Well it's still doctrine, technically, isn't it? I mean, you do believe in polygamy!" Well, I suppose so. But I also believe that animal sacrifice is doctrine. I mean it was ordered by God, so it's a true doctrine, right?

Actually Felt The Spirit
bytebear replied to Blossom76's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
Oh, I wanted to add another observation. By having the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith confirmed through the spirit, it adds to your testimony of Jesus Christ. He lives! And he hasn't forgotten us. -
The 9/11 terrorists had no intention on a mission that betters humanity. They wanted to destroy by any and all means necessary those who oppose their ideology. Their mission was to destroy, not to protect. Rogue One and the "Rebels" are about destroying a weapon that will be used to kill millions of people. They weren't going after civilian outposts just because they supported the Empire. Simply put, military targets of an evil regime vs civilian targets done for no reason other than to cause fear.

I just want you to know that this is exactly right. You do need to study, gain knowledge and understanding. And then as you ponder and pray, God confirms what you have learned. Congrats! -
