I particularly found this parallel interesting: "[R]esearchers found that P. pruinosa first moved from central Mexico into what is now the midwestern United States approximately 5,000 years ago, before expanding to the East Coast some time later." https://news.ncsu.edu/2016/06/squash-agriculture-bees-2016/ "The Jaredite origin in the Old World probably dates to the third Millennium B.C., which due to the scarcity of historical material presents obstacles to the use of comparative literature or archaeology. Downtime? What's that?

NT's "Bill Nye Saves The World" review
bytebear replied to NeuroTypical's topic in General Discussion
Steven Crowder "Louder with Crowder" pretty much speaks for me on this topic. look him up on YouTube. He specifically counters Nye in several commentaries. -
I didn't mind camping, or scouting in general. I just didn't have friends in my troop/ward. If I had friends I wanted to hang out with, it would have been different. But scouting is more than just camping. It's skill building in a variety of disciplines. And yes, most are useless in our modern era, but they will come in handy in the zombie apocalypse, or Venezuela.

Growing up LDS, scouting kinda sucked for me. There was one other kid my age, and since they didn't really mix up the Teachers (14-15yo) and Priests (16-18yo), there wasn't a lot for me to do. When my older brothers were in scouts, they had an awesome scout master and did everything. He moved out of the ward when I was 12 so I got zip. I would prefer the older scouts to be more regional anyway, maybe at the stake level, and mixed with different age groups. Course the older kids in my ward were also bullies, so maybe not so much.

Sounds a lot like 1 Cor 15 (I changed the bold highlights to show the connection) 40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. 41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory. 42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: 43 It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: 44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

A part of my Patriarchal Blessing scares me to death

Yeah, but my best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who’s going with a girl who knew the family that it happened to, so it must be true. -
A part of my Patriarchal Blessing scares me to death
bytebear replied to a topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I remember hearing a story (hearsay) of a young man who had developmental disabilities, and was told in his blessing that he was placed in such a state so that Satan could not tempt him because of his role in the per-mortal life. -
I recently saw Heaven is for Real, and found nothing doctrinally incorrect

The easiest argument against abortion is that the aborted is a life. It's simply indefensible. Ben Shapiro has some very good debates on YouTube on the topic.

Favorite Doctrinal Phrases Found In Hymns
bytebear replied to Fether's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
The Spirit of God... my favorite line is "the veil o'er the Earth is beginning to burst". but the lyrics overall are so powerful, and how can you not love a good Hosanna shout? -
I don't necessarily look at the genetics since it is so muddied, but the terms Jew and Gentile can be seen as a parallel to Lamanite and Nephite. The believer and the unbeliever. The chosen people and the others. In that sense, genetics is less important. So, I can see how we extend the Lamanite blessings to the pacific islanders., even though the chance of them being a descendant of Lehi is unlikely. I certainly don't believe the great wars of the Book of Mormon was half of Lehi's descendants vs the other half of Lehi's descendants. No, they intermixed with natives who were in American from who knows where. But they wre all Nephites or Lamanites, Jews or Gentiles.

I've heard two interpretations. 1. Jesus was not in his physical form as discussed above. 2. The far more mundane explanation which is Jesus was basically saying, assuming that Mary was hugging him and wouldn't let go, "Stop hugging me, I got things to do. Now go tell everyone I'm back."

Online forums are great for questions, and I am sure any and all questions would be answered here. How far away is the local church? I think Sunday School is a great asset, and will help you find locals who you can study with. You probably already know the church manuals are all online. There is a teacher's manual and student manual for Sunday School. https://www.lds.org/manual/book-of-mormon-gospel-doctrine-teachers-manual?lang=eng https://www.lds.org/manual/book-of-mormon-class-member-study-guide?lang=eng These are last year's lessons (as this year is focused on church history), but it's a good place to start. There are also Seminary (high school) manuals, and Institute (College level) manuals. https://www.lds.org/si/seminary/manuals?lang=eng And now, I think it's time we started activating the message boards we have here for studying. https://mormonhub.com/forums/forum/44-book-of-mormon-scripture-reading/

As I understand it the lineage is traditionally passed through the mother, so it depends on your lineage, and not your DNA %

If you feel you're not worthy or ready, attend church anyway, and just don't take the sacrament. No biggie. Even as an active member, you may choose to skip if you feel you need to work on something. Sacrament is a renewal of your baptism.
-
Are you following the same worthiness that you were at baptism? Are you able to answer in your head to yourself the interview questions? Belief in Christ, testimony of the restored gospel, willingness to live the gospel, staying morally pure, etc.
-
You'll be welcomed with open arms. And if you are worthy of the sacrament, you should take it. You are still under your covenant of baptism.

It's like both want the power, but want it in their own way. But both the Ds and the Rs are not actually helping the people.

I miss Gordon Jump. But seriously, I liked the old simplistic films, where things weren't so cinematic. An empty stage with actors in suits is fine with me.

Watching the hearings has really shown me how dumb as a post some of our congressional leaders are.
