  1. See, there you go again, pretending Republicans are the catalyst for corruption, and that Democrats are magically immune. This is the biggest problem I have with Democrats. Rather than own their own corruption, they deflect, as if Olly North's actions decades ago somehow makes Hillary's actions non-factual. They are, and not only that, they are far worse than North's.
  2. No, Hillary is worse than Bill, politically. And she certainly did intimidate and harass the women he involved himself with. She is notorious for it. Just the things she said about a poor naive intern who was seduced is enough to condemn her for her "treatment of women". I remember Nixon was nearly impeached for his actions, and he resigned in disgrace. I expect nothing less of Hillary. And comparing his deleting 30 seconds of audio tape to destroying her entire email cache is quite a difference. What's said is that you are actually defending the corruption of journalism to protect her. I want them to reveal the corruption of all people in power. That's their job. And sadly, they are giving her a pass on her corruption, as any Sanders supporter will tell you. But the media is entirely ignoring the fact that we know for a fact that her campaign and the DNC worked together to ensure her victory. I want to stop the corruption. You seem to want to pretend it doesn't exist. It does. It's clear as day. And frankly, I don't really thing anyone on the left has gotten over the Bush/Gore election, and will accept all kinds of corruption as some twisted form of justice, even when it harms their own self interests.
  3. You're joking right? You think Hillary didn't have the specifics on the Gulf War? You think she didn't set up the over throw of the Libyan government and then joke about the death of Qaddafi? That she didn't run guns into foreign countries, or give Mexican drug lords weapons? Or that she didn't get payoffs from foreign governments for favors? That she doesn't have deep deep ties to wall street banks. If you think the Bush administration was corrupt, take that and double, triple it, and you won't even come close to Clinton. And now we have a bombing of a GOP office. And we have CNN telling us not to read Wikileaks, and they will tell us what is relevant. All the while, they still play up these absurd accusations of sexual harassment. Suddenly, these poor women feel the need to come forward, a month before the election? And you actually want to paint Hillary as the better candidate? She's not. Her husband actually paid off his accusers. He was actually accused of rape, at the time the incidents happened (not 30+ years later). Seriously, when I hear someone defend Hilary against Trump in the way you have, I just tune out, because it's just flat out, ignoring so much evidence, just as CNN is telling you to do.
  4. Aside from the obvious hugging my dad, I'd like to meet ancestors I have heard about but never met. I also would like to meet those why my work on Earth helped (maybe temple work, maybe ancestors of those I have introduced to the church).
  5. I am right now building my own emulator system using Raspbery Pi. If you want to feel comfortable legally, go and buy a cheap all in one emulator game. There are a couple Atari ones for about $20 and some Nintendo ones too. And legally if you own any of the games in any form, you can legally emulate it. So, it's not only morally ok, it's legal. So, if you purchased Ms. Pac Man on your phone, you can legally download the MAME emulator ROM for your PC.
  6. Funny, but I can find a dozen videos of Democrats attacking Trumpers, tearing down Trump signs, flipping people off, screaming at them. The whole movement of BLM and SJW. There is simply nothing, NOTHING comparable on the conservative side.
  7. There is clearly a double standard when it comes to the infidelities of Democrats vs. Republicans. Frankly, I am surprised they didn't try to smear Romney, although I am sure they tried to find something. That's far more telling about Romney really, since you should live a life so that if you are accused of wrong doing, your character will win out. Trump is taking heat because it's probably true that he was a masher. But I do find it hard to swallow the notion that some random woman comes forward after 30 years to complain about his behavior. And for the NYTimes to actually run with this story as if it has even an ounce of verifiability, just tells me the deep dishonesty of the media. Journalism is dead.
  8. one gold coin in jar A, and 49 gold coins and 50 copper coins in jar B. You have roughly a 2/3 chance of winning. If she picks jar A, you win outright. If she pics jar B, and a gold coin (49/99 chance) you win. If she pics Jar B, and a copper coin (50,99) you lose.
  9. Well, ordinances for an individual, even blessings, are done by full name (not just initials), so I think the formality of blessings is different than the names of apostles.
  10. We are the spirit children of God the Father. We are the spiritual children of Christ as he is the way to salvation. We are the physical children of our earthly parents. And we are spiritually sealed to our eternal earthly parents (either natural or adopted). No other persons fill those roles in the universe. So, our spirit family (which is virtually everyone) is a bit different than our spiritual family (our ward?) or our physical family or our potentially adopted Earthly family.
  11. Yeah, no candles in the church. And it's strictly a safety issue.
  12. I usually go to the Topical Guide in the scriptures for this one. https://www.lds.org/scriptures/tg/man-potential-to-become-like-heavenly-father?lang=eng&letter=m let them have dominion: Gen. 1:26 . ( Moses 2:26 . ) man is become as one of us: Gen. 3:22 . ( Moses 4:28 . ) be holy: for I … am holy: Lev. 19:2 . ( 1 Pet. 1:16 . ) thou hast made him a little lower than the angels: Ps. 8:5 . madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands: Ps. 8:6 . Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High: Ps. 82:6 . Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father: Matt. 5:48 . ( 3 Ne. 12:48 . ) spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have: Luke 24:39 . Is it not written in your law … Ye are gods: John 10:34 . ( Ps. 82 ; D&C 76:58 . ) we are the offspring of God: Acts 17:29 . heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ: Rom. 8:17 . changed into the same image from glory to glory: 2 Cor. 3:18 . if a son, then an heir of God through Christ: Gal. 4:7 . Till we all come … unto a perfect man: Eph. 4:13 . be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live: Heb. 12:9 . when he shall appear, we shall be like him: 1 Jn. 3:2 . him that overcometh will … sit with me in my throne: Rev. 3:21 . I particularly like Rev 3:21, where we are promised that we will sit on God's throne. Can't be more godlike than to be given his seat of authority.
  13. See, not to go so deep, but I find that Joseph Smith's revelations clarifies my understanding of the Bible. Eternal progression (man becoming "gods") to me is crystal clear in the Bible, but needed a prophet to bring back plain and precious truths. Even the term "saints" usage in LDS fits the usage of the Bible. I have a friend who was a former pastor and we occasionally discuss theology. I brought up the "laying on of hands to receive the Holy Ghost" He wasn't all that familiar with the concept, and was kind of shocked when he did an internet search and found it was pretty much right there in the Bible, clear as day (as confirmed by non LDS theological sources). Again, I don't want to get into a discussion on the specific doctrines, but it seems to me the Bible confirms Joseph Smith's role as a prophet because he simply was so spot on with so many Biblical concepts. I could go down a laundry list of themes, like degrees of heaven, baptism for the dead, spirit prison/paradise, faith/works/grace, the Godhead, etc. etc.
  14. No masks and no candles. And just like the booties at Temple tours, there are deep theological implications. Or maybe it's just practical. One of the two.
  15. I love that a local ward does Trunk or Treat, a great variation on traditional trick or treating. I still love getting trick or treaters, but now I live on a cul-de-sac which is off a main road, and for the past 4 years, I have gotten zero trick or treaters. In my 20s I loved going to big clubs or street parties. I even won second place in a costume contest once. But those days are long gone. Decorations have now gone more harvest/fall than spooky/scary.
  16. Oh, and back in the 1970s, my mom was on a general board on welfare, when I was a baby, so I don't remember it. But there is a framed picture I grew up with, where she is in a sea of men, (she and one other woman were the only females in the picture). The men in the photo were the general board as well as the First Presidency and the 12 Apostles at the time. Of course, this was also when the church was much smaller. The Provo Temple was just being built, and the church had a whopping 13 temples worldwide)
  17. Growing up my Deacon Quorum advisor was husband to the General Relief Society president. Granted he was also a former bishop, so he had that going for him. Also, I had friends who had apostles in their wards. And a president of BYU was from my home ward too before he was called.
  18. It's a cultural thing. Church General Authorities always have formal names, almost always with a middle initial. I think because we have Joseph Smith, Joseph Fielding Smith and Joseph F. Smith as prophets, you need to distinguish, and it's become a standard. So when someone says Thomas Monson, it's a huge cultural red flag that you aren't a card carrying member, and it really can be jarring to the ear. You gotta have that S, or it just sounds funny. (by the way, there are tons of tell-tale signs like this in Mormondom, but I ain't giving away all our secrets).
  19. Celestial: Baptism Terrestial: Faith in Christ, valiant but deceived, those who covenanted (baptized) but did not live up to their covenants. Those who rejected the Gospel in mortality, but accepted it in the Spirit World. Telestial: Everyone else (liars, deceivers, those who actively work against God, those who defy their covenants, and not merely falter). Wikipedia has a good synopsis (with scriptural references). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Degrees_of_glory#Celestial_kingdom I imagine that we all have a choice to accept or reject the Gospel. Those who reject it in this life but accept it in the next, will have Terrestrial glory. Those who accept it in this life, or accept it in the next (without first rejecting it) will receive Celestial Glory. Those who always reject it, will be in Telestial glory. But, interestingly enough, it's always the individual who chooses and not for a lack of knowledge (either in this life of the next).
  20. This year the kids are old enough to be scared of things, so we're doing a happy pumpkin Halloween. Sad that all the cool stuff is going to stay in storage.
  21. Even here in California, we have about as many churches as Targets (which is a lot).
  22. When my mom moved into a new house, a friend remarked, "Oh, how nice, the chapel is right behind your house (literally, the parking lot fence was her back yard fence. "Oh, no, that's not my ward building. Mine is down the street."
  23. I served in the Boston, MA mission 89-91. Spent about half my mission just over the New Hampshire border. I never did get the hang of the Bostonian language though.
  24. Become the designated driver. Watch out that your friends don't over do it, and be an example. I have a reputation of being the sober one in some of my business circles, and it ends up being a little about being a Mormon, and more about being someone they can rely on.
  25. I am frustrated because you are only focusing on the first part of what I said, and completely ignored the advice given in the second half of my post. I agree with Paul. I don't think your context conveys his understanding, however. Rodeo, round 301.
