Secretly thats what I think happened to my Maxwell Institute BoM study edition. She is a bit of a book snob and dislikes paperbacks. After I bought this hardback version I had her look at the material and poetry as well as use it during Come Follow Me (hopefully she won’t throw this one out).

Yeah, I had that book and loved it. Due to the complexity of the Mosiah layout I wanted to refer to the book and realized that we must have lost the book during our last move. I tried to purchase it again but it’s out of print thus super expensive. But then I found this version. I wish the quality of the book was better. I remember when books were loved, sown together and made to last. Everything now seems glued with the cheapest products available. The content is top notch though.

I can remember multiple times in my life that Moore’s law was predicted to fail. It has held true since 1975. Any of you techies want to make a prediction on when it will fail?

Yeah the economy blows out there. I have 11 children so I know that the struggle is real. One of my sons is planning on moving in with us for a 6 month span so he can put together a down payment for a home of his own (with his SAHM and 3 children). The current RS General President is 5 years older than me. The prophets of our youth were President Kimball and Benson. Their commentary on women working outside the home (WHEN THEY DIDNT HAVE TO) was clear. I and my wife took that council and were blessed by our decisions. And we made lots of sacrifices (I won’t bore you with our story). Sacrifice is giving up one thing for something better. When I hear someone commenting on their defiance of council at the pulpit and on facebook. It rises my ire. Now, I don’t know the relief society president and she may have married a total looser of a guy who could not provide for the family, but I doubt it. (If I’m incorrect then dismiss this entire thread). I fear that population collapse is a real thing. We have a duty to multiply and replenish the Earth, that commandment is still in effect. The government has done a terrible job of raising children. Absolutely get an education without going into overwhelming debt if you can. Obviously, if a married couple does not have children, the wife can and should help with getting a head start for future family finances. But when children come into the home, they are better off with a mother than the government, day care, or a nanny. And it will likely take some sacrifice.

We purchase a Toblerone 4.5 Kg bar once a year. It comes straight from Switzerland and I swear it tastes better. A single triangle is enough for a pot of fondue. Just add strawberries, marshmallows, bananas, pound cake, etc. Ritter Sport are pretty good. Sees Candies has some good options too. Milk Bordeaux & Milk Butterscotch Squares can get you in trouble quick.

We started using this version of the Book of Mormon for Come Follow Me. I’m loving it. The format is easier to read (paragraphs and quotation marks really help). The Chiasmus and poetry stanzas are highlighted as seen above. Commentary, footnotes, and introductions… And the appendix is full of maps, charts, timeline, genealogy, etc. Highly recommended.

Commentary on Moses 5:23 23 If thou doest well, thou shalt be accepted. And if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door, and Satan desireth to have thee; and except thou shalt hearken unto my commandments, I will deliver thee up, and it shall be unto thee according to his desire. And thou shalt rule over him; As far as Cain is concerned, the information given is definite that he became Perdition, and that Lucifer who is Satan, became subject to him. It appears that the reason Satan desired to have him was due to the fact that Cain had obtained a body of flesh and bones and therefore had superior power, and Satan was willing to accept and be obedient to him because of that condition. The natural conclusion is, therefore, that a devil with a body of flesh and bones has some power greater than one who was denied the physical body. - Joseph Fielding Smith, Answers to Gospel Questions, 5 vols. [Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Co., 1957-1966], 2: 170. I’m pretty sure that he meant flesh and blood instead of flesh and bone. Although if Cain is still alive, his body must have undergone some kind of change. That being shared, you can’t please everyone. It’s likely that many in spirit prison are unhappy with their state of affairs. And because they are not privy to their pre-mortal memories that have no recollection that they signed up for this. And the unknown is scary. They can’t feel physical pain now. Perhaps that is one thing they fear. A common question that I routinely use while interviewing ER patients is, “You did what?”

Still too much daylight on West coast. Take a look outside if in a northern latitude. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/10/science/solar-storm-earth.html Pic from my son in Pennsylvania.

I’ve mused that physical matter is different than spiritual matter because it is bound by an uncertainty principle. This principle generates unexpected outcomes. And a small percentages of unexpected outcomes have value. It’s possible that something like soy sauce, kimchi, paella, maple syrup, or bacon pecan pie is the kind of currency that makes Earth valuable. Perhaps it’s the Star Wars saga. But then again, I hope than the lightsaber is a common elegant weapon that Celestials employ. Perhaps George Lucas’ story was inspired. And if there are an infinite amount of ‘Earths’ then the art, cultures, cookbooks, etc. available in heavenly libraries must be extensive. Can’t wait to get my hands on an Urim and Thummin. D&C 130: 10-11 Another good reason to shoot for the Celestial Kingdom instead of a lesser kingdom. Can’t imagine using imitation maple corn syrup on crappy pancakes for the rest of eternity. Talk about hell…

Im also impressed to consider all the parables that deal with currency and wages. And Mosiah 2 wherein King Benjamin states that we are all unprofitable servants.

Moses 1:3 And God spake unto Moses, saying: Behold, I am the Lord God Almighty, and Endless is my name; for I am without beginning of days or end of years; and is not this endless? 4 And, behold, thou art my son; wherefore look, and I will show thee the workmanship of mine hands; but not all, for my works are without end, and also my words, for they never cease. Also hymn 284 If you could hie to Kolob Endless commodities are an interesting concept.

There was only one perfect man. We all make mistakes and the good ones learn from our mistakes. Looking back on my life I made lots of boneheaded mistakes that I wish I could take back. I’m lucky that my wife and kids put up with a bunch of my garbage. But they did and they still give me World Greatest Dad mugs and shirts. Even though we both know I don’t deserve them… I still accept the gift with a thankful heart.

Lucifer did not under basic glory & honor economics. Glory and honor cannot be given away. It can only be earned. And curiously when Jehovah said the glory be thine. It seems like Jehovah thought that He was going to vector all the glory to the father. But it don't work that way. The glory that Jehovah accrued was multiplied and shared with his Father. Moses 4:1-2 It’s like being given a $100,000 dollar samurai sword - without any training or experience. That person would be more likely to hurt themselves then do any harm to an opponent. And a true warrior would be deadly with a wooden spork.

So an influence trad wife will have a lovely dinner ready for you. But you cant eat it until pictures are taken of it with a ring light. And your dinner is constantly interrupted by her monitoring the likes on her website.

I think she is an influencer posing as a tradwife. That dog wont hunt.

So Im getting an education from my 26 y/o daughter who is visiting for the next few days. Girl-boss slogan: the 3 Gs - gatekeeping, gaslighting, girl-boss SAHM: Usual stay at home mom, send kids off to school, do pillaties with the girls, walking the dog, having dinner ready. Tradwife: Traditional wife. Practices traditional roles. Likes to take care of her family and man. Homeschooler. Enjoys making goldfish from scratch. essential oils. Preparing dinner for the family with homemade mozzarella and sourdough bread. My daughter is a working woman hoping to get pregnant and become a tradwife. The pendulum had swung for a good portion of women from Girl-boss to tradwife.

https://www.mother.ly/news/2023-state-of-motherhood-survey/ The above link is to Motherly's 2023 State of Motherhood Survey Report. Some interesting findings: This year finds mothers increasingly stressed about finances, yet a lack of access to affordable childcare keeps many mothers out of the workforce. The key to getting mothers, who also do the majority of childcare and household management, back into the workforce? Flexibility, Motherly’s survey reveals. Importantly, mental health concerns continue to climb, now registering as a top worry. More mothers report they have sought mental health services in the past year than in the year prior. The Great Resignation continues for mothers This year finds more survey respondents clocking in as stay-at-home parents than past years at 25%, compared to 15% in 2022. Eighteen percent (18%) of mothers in our sample changed jobs or left the workforce in the past year, and the top reasons cited are staying at home with children (28%) and lack of childcare (15%). “America is in a childcare crisis and the data shows it’s driving moms from the workforce and threatening the economic security of our families. It’s time for us to reimagine our workplace cultures around the realities of motherhood and invest in the structural supports moms need to work and have kids.” Reshma Saujani, CEO & Founder of Moms First Just about half (49%) of moms in our sample rely on outside childcare and 63% are paying for 30+ hours a week of care. While most moms are satisfied with their childcare, 1 in 5 (21%) are not, and the overwhelming reason is cost (69%). Tracking with last year’s results, 67% of moms are spending at least $1,000 a month on childcare, with 18% spending $2,000-$3,000 and 13% spending $3,000 or more (31% in total spending $2,000+ per month). It is not surprising that one-third of moms (33%) using outside childcare report that the cost is “often” or “always” a source of financial stress in the household. In fact, 52% of working moms say the cost of childcare has made them consider leaving the workforce. 8 in 10 mothers worry about a recession and are making preemptive cuts Eight in 10 (80%) are concerned about a possible recession, 27% are very much concerned, and 71% report they are planning to cut back spending. Possibly because more women are choosing to become SAHMs than in previous years and more partners have returned to the workplace, we see an uptick across the board on duties like scheduling, errands, cleaning, meal prep and so on among mothers who have partners. Thirty-two percent report sharing responsibilities equally with a partner, down 2% year over year. ANYWAY... It looks like Gen Z isnt as that into being a juggling superwoman / mom / high powered executive. They are looking for a better balance of life and generally would be thrilled to have a real man take care of them so they can be SAHMs... I don't think that the upcoming generation was the impetous for the General Relief Society President's facebook comments. It was likely to appease the old guard... my 2 cents.

Late to the party: Songs you discovered long after they were popular
mikbone replied to Vort's topic in General Discussion
I was introduced to classical music by Saturday morning cartoons (particularly Buggs Bunny). But really got into them due to sports (olympic theme, etc). Every time I hear Aaron Copeland’s fanfare for the common man I get excited. - Kinda like Pavlov’s dogs. -

Dave Chappelle & Charlie Murphy also gave me a better appreciation for Prince and Rick James. If you know, you know. -

I love songs that sample the good oldies. Best of my love - The emotions "Mo Money Mo Problems" by The Notorious B.I.G. ft. Puff Daddy & Mase (sampled "I'm Coming Out" by Diana Ross) -

When we finally got the game RockBand, probably 2 years after it came out, my appreciation for all the songs that the family (fake played) increased dramatically. Kinda like how fantasy football has given the NFL a shot in the arm. -
I know that every general conference talk has to be proofed by a doctrine committee and if the speaker goes off script that the written talk is accepted instead of the verbal ad lib (even if moved upon by the spirit). I’m not sure when this practice began, but it obviously was not functioning during the Brigham Young era. I doubt that the women’s conference talks were reviewed by committee. And assume that facebook is not an ‘Official’ church news outlet despite the appearance. Please inform me of my error if you know better.

It’s a strange dynamic. I mean, if every once in a while I get a hankering to have a cappuccino, I can’t get a temple recommend unless I lie about it. But it’s just a cappuccino. On the other hand mothers with young children working outside the home (when they don’t have to) seems like a problem - to me at least. But totally OK to get a temple recommend… And ok to receive one of the premier callings in the church with significant media exposure. What really got my attention about Camille Johnson’s women’s conference talk was that she shared something that, on its face, appears to be contrary to known prior counsel. And then she highlighted that specific portion of her talk and shared it on facebook under the official title of the church. (Which I perceived as a bit of nose-thumbing). I took President’s Oaks response as a clarifying stop-gap message reinforcing motherhood and life long learning while ignoring the work outside the home focus of the OP. I want to hope that it was just an innocent blunder on her part. But the fact that she has been the general primary president previously as well as a successful attorney suggests that she knew what she was doing. BTW, never had a cappuccino.
