Reminds me of my friend... the week her boyfriend left for the MTC she was a sobbing wreck. Four months later she was ring shopping! Everyone I know who planned on waiting for a missionary ended up getting engaged to someone else. Two years is a long time, especially when you're young. However, that's just my experience! Good luck to the original poster.

I wouldn't think less of a young man who didn't go on a mission if, for example, he was a convert, inactive at the time he should've gone, etc. But if he didn't go just because he "didn't feel like it," I'd wonder why. However, I have a problem with girls who flat out refuse to date anyone who didn't go on a mission. My husband was inactive from his late teens to early twenties; even though he was active and worthy by the time started dating, I had a friend question me for marrying a non-RM. I have a problem with the young women lessons that seem to teach that going on a mission is the be all and end all in a potential husband, and is the main thing you should be looking for. Going on a mission is no guarantee of "righteousness." I've dated and encountered some really unworthy RMs.

The discussion on the first page of different languages remind me of a missionary I met in Paris, who said that certain parts of the scriptures are more accurately translated in French than in English. Dunno if that's true or not.

Women's Groups Urge CBS To Pull Super Bowl Abortion Ad
annamaureen replied to Just_A_Guy's topic in Current Events
That's kind of what I thought. If she wants an abortion, it's "It's my body, my choice, your feelings don't matter! You don't get to be a father." If she wants to keep it, it's "You have to man up and be the father and pay child support! You have no say! " -

Yep, done the work for my great-grandmother and sealed her to her two husbands. -

Agreed. They're just "enforcing" their own form of morality. -
The LDS stance on birth control???
annamaureen replied to Daughter_of_Helaman2709's topic in Advice Board
I had an older female member tell me once that birth control was sinful. I politely replied, "oh, interesting, that's not what the church teaches." She didn't have much of an answer! -

They won't always be "children" in need of care. They'll probably be off living on their own. -
That's because it isn't acceptable. I've never heard of anyone doing that until now.

Fake Mission call to Magna Utah. Gotta see!
annamaureen replied to benstone84111's topic in Mormon Videos
Oh man, I busted up laughing! I wonder if a missionary would ever actually be called to serve somewhere that close to home?- 21 replies

I was in a similar situation. I would advise not to contact him.

You'll get used to them, Bini. It's different at first but after a while, they stop feeling "strange" and you don't even know you're wearing them. Personally, I think they're much more comfortable than regular underwear.

I dislike... People who sniff and sniff and never blow their noses. Girls who jump around and scream and shriek. Repetitive, monotonous noises. Bad drivers. Slow walkers. Extremely loud commercials.

Napkins on a YW's Shoulder--need reference

Reminds me of a youth dance I went to when I was younger... a teenage investigator was there with a member friend. She was wearing a dress and tights, and the dress was just a wee bit too short. She was asked to leave, and left in tears. I bet she wasn't too interested in the church after that. -
Animal Sacrifice-Would you participate?
annamaureen replied to TruthSeekerToo's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Let's just say that if this was the case, I'd be glad I'm a woman and don't have the priesthood! I'd have a really difficult time killing an animal. -
My husband is obsessing over the World Cup. I like soccer too, but he takes it too a whole new level! He's even refusing to take any days off so he can "save them up" to take off work to watch the games. Never mind that we have DVR, apparently it has to be live...

I sang to my science teacher at the dinner table because the voices told me to.

How are we mocking the Lord by showing concern and love for his creations? I don't know if I would ever put a pet's name on the temple prayer roll, but calling them "Petsmart affections" is a little condescending. Just because we love our pets as family doesn't mean we consider them to be "the same" as children and spouse. The same way we love our spouses differently than we love our children, and we love our parents differently than we love our siblings, or our cousins, etc...

I misread that as you getting endowed when you were twelve and I was like "umm, what?"

For me and my now-husband, it wasn't that detailed; it was more like, "What are we expecting? What kind of attitudes do we have about this? How did our parents raise us to think about intimacy?"
