General Advice for Marital Problems (especially women)
annamaureen replied to crazypotato's topic in Family
I haven't read it, and am not familar with it, but have heard good things. -
Even when I was in Young Women, I hated being beaten over the head with "an RM is the only way to go! Anyone else is unworthy! That's the most important thing in a husband!" It wasn't in the manuals, but all the YW leaders certainly tried to drill it into our heads as if it was gospel truth. Apparently this wasn't an isolated incident, since I know many single adult women who refuse to date non-RMs. (And even a few parents who say "if you didn't go on a mission, you're not good enough for my daughter.") I've known some really unrighteous RMs. Having served a mission is not a guarantee of worthiness.

I wasn't surprised to see Randy go, but I wish it had been Parvati. The men are just enchanted with her "cute little miss innocent" act and it'll probably bite them in the butt later. Whoever said "she's like a virus" was right. I didn't like her in any previous seasons, and that hasn't changed now. It's pretty much a given that Russell won't make it as far as he did last season. He was playing with a bunch of idiots then, but these people aren't fools. And although I doubt it'll happen, it would be hysterical if he found the hidden idol yet again.

As long as you don't ingest them, I can't imagine that's considered breaking the WoW!

I'd never "say" it in real life because it's not a real word. And when I use it on the internet, it's completely lost it's meaning for me as an acronym - it's a general expression of shock or surprise. I don't think "oh my God" or "oh my gosh" when I type it.

I, for one, agree with you. However, many people of the world say that pornography is "normal" and "every guy does it." A lot of men are, sadly, deceived by that idea and use it as their excuse.

Nobody's "flaming" you, Mute. We've just never heard of such a thing before. Nobody's trying to be rude. Also, what you just posted is phrased completely differently than your original post and makes the situation sound vastly different. Your original post sounded like your parents were told "make a wish, it'll come true!" Now, when you say that they were told "the Lord will reward you for comig to the temple," it makes a lot more sense.

Why I'm Wary Of Facebook by JeaNette Goates Smith
annamaureen replied to KeithLBrown's topic in General Discussion
Frankly, I think she's seriously overreacting. She sounds kind of bitter and negative, and a bit self-centered with the thing about how people "honor" her by sending her photos but gets angry when they post them for all to see. Sorry, it's not all about you. Also, all her complaints about "the bad things you can do on Facebook" like popularity contests, snubbing each other, reconnecting with old flames, flaunting your trips, etc are not exclusive to Facebook. -
If you are the only Church member in your family...
annamaureen replied to danceinthedark's topic in General Discussion
I'm lucky that my parents and brother are members, but nobody else in our extended family are members (everyone is atheist, so we get a lot of flak for our belief in God in general, and even moreso for being Mormon.) When I got married, relations were extremely strained for a while because of being unable to come into the temple. -
What happened before the pre-exestince ?
annamaureen replied to lizzy12's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I certainly don't know, but it boggles the brain to think about it. -
My little brain can't handle stuff about the universe!

Could someone please find this original quote for me? I've never heard it before and can't find it based on this paraphrase. Thanks.

I'm not a fan of Mormon Doctrine, either. Some people still follow it as if it actually is doctrine.

Interesting. A lot of people look down on homemaking (as seen by the asker in this article) but it can be very tough work at times.

I figured this out the hard way!

Yes, I do think many schools have gone too far with the "zero tolerance policy." You frequently hear about students being suspended for extremely minor issues.

It's a matter of opinion whether the temple is "ugly" or not.

Sorry, I guess...?

Yeah, my English grandmother had to go out of country for a surgery because the waiting list was so long. I guess there are good and bad stories.

My husband likes when I wear the DriSilques because they're silky and see through!

In my experience, garments last longer than regular panties, anyway.

This is kind of a random thread, but bear with me. This has been bugging me for a long time. Back when I was in Young Womens, the leaders' idea of "service" was to do Heart Attacks. (For those of you unfamiliar with this, it basically involves cutting out paper hearts and plastering them all over someone's door or car.) It was also done in my singles' ward. My family and I have been heart attacked several times over the years, and while we appreciated the sentiment, it only created work for us. We had to pull off all the hearts, scrape the tape off our door and cars, and even take one car to the car wash because the YW had written on it and it was too difficult to scrub off on our own. A friend of mine once got a bunch of forks stuck in her yard in a heart shape - what a hassle. Maybe this sounds "grinchy" of me. But perhaps instead of Heart Attacks and similar things, there could be an activity that promotes real service. Paper hearts don't really help anyone. Which leads me to my next thought - in my experience throughout YW and Relief Society, everyone's idea of "service" is to bake cookies, make cute notes, something like that. But is this really service? It's good intentioned, and fun for us to do, and might give the receiver some momentary pleasure... but does it really help? The men go mow lawns and shovel snow. Can't we women go help the elderly and infirm clean house, or spend a few hours with a new mother instead of just dumping a casserole at her door? Obviously this is just my experience, and I can't say what everyone else does in their wards.

When I was young, I accidentally stumbled across an adult film on TV late at night. I watched maybe fifteen seconds but I still remember it in explict detail, over a decade later. I can't imagine what it must be like for a porn addict; even if you repent and wash away the sin, that doesn't mean you'll forget what you've seen and done.

We'll all be one big family because of everyone getting sealed to someone.
