Oh, just the previews make me cry! I rarely watch the show itself for that very reason. I used to watch Trading Spaces in the morning, but the channel changed its lineup. If I wanted to watch a large family like the Duggers I'd visit my family more often lol.

Whats a good way to look for members that roleplay?
Generally_Me replied to Joshiewoshie's topic in General Discussion
I am surprised at how many role-playing Mormons are on this site! That's pretty awesome. My family is/was quite against RPGs, but if it's a computer game or board game, it's considered fine Anyone here use...Magic cards?? -
New-new shows? I can't think of any.... I enjoy Reba (because although her family tore apart and the daughter got pregnant, they hang together and work to make/do things right), and judge shows, animal planet shows, and cop shows. Phineas and Ferb isn't bad either. Beyond that, I can't think of any moral shows I enjoy...let me think about it awhile....

Are you talking about roleplaying as in Rifts, Paladin etc? If you're anywhere near our corner of New Mexico, my hubby and I will happily join a new group! We aren't big on D&D though, at least I'm not and hubby has issue with 3rd Ed. Maybe if you've got a local RPG store you can put up a notice about starting a group to focus on good morals in games, or however you'd like to word it; hubby's old group invited teens with parental approval, and yes it can be a good missionary tool. -
Beer Good. Meat Bad. But we do the opposite.

Arguing semantics: what is the meaning of the word "sparingly"? Once a year, once a month, once a day? Depending on your culture/family, it could be one serving per meal. Personally I'd be more worried about the fat content of hot dogs than the meat part. But, to my knowledge, the WoW doesn't say "Thou shall not stuff thy face with fat and sugar, but with the healthful foods that I have put on earth for thine use". I think barley tea was pretty common back then wasn't it? Nasty stuff, but then I was fed sugar as a kid. -
What happens when a member stops coming?

Same here! I have a family I need to VT, I've never met before (they are inactive) and I don't have an address for them (not on ANY directory, believe me I've checked 'em all!) Is there anyone here who doesn't have a problem calling someone they've never even seen before? -
Tayo, the only and I stress ONLY reason I asked what show was to help point you in the direction of some websites that can list detailed reasons why certain shows should not be watched by kids/teens. You know, with more detail than "inappropriate scenes" and "it's about a guy". By presenting a researched reason to your teacher, with your parents to back you up, particularly if you have a well-thought out alternative, you could get away from this project. However, since it seems you have resigned yourself to doing it, then you're doing it. I still hold out the hope that you can type the name of the show and the word "inappropriate" into Google and find some research you can use to request an exemption based on religion and your youthful age, but it will only work if you do it.

I can see it too. Actually, our DD didn't go to nursery much, due to general germiness. We didn't use a pacifier due to the orthodontia worry, if she stayed on it for too long. Many of the toddlers in our ward accompany their parents to Relief Society/Priesthood, and use their own toys/blankets rather than a general shared lot. She probably should have approached you privately instead of in public, but I do not blame them for not allowing the pacifier.

I want to respond to this. You won't meet the bishop halfway when he requests a meeting with you, you won't attend without your wife, and you expect people to 'hunt you down' at home, not knowing if you even want them to visit you? I think your ward will understand that you and your wife are separate people, not joined at the hip. I've attended without my husband before, and he without me. The most we get asked is if the other is feeling all right. Hey, have you visited any inactives lately? Offered a hand of fellowship to someone you haven't seen at church in a while? -

Here PC, I read this earlier today and thought of it when I read your post. The Danger of Celebrating Halloween: Spiritual Life in God -
I figured it was a teen in college. My high school doesn't have a film-oriented or media-based class, but the college I attended did.

Maybe Tayo is afraid we weill tell him/her it is not an offensive show. Tayo, there are incredible numbers of TV shows that I do not watch and even more I will not let my daughter watch (lol). There are people who feel that 'immature' shows like Dora and Spongebob are innapropriate. If you will name the show and why you feel it's offensive, we may be able to help you with your phraseology so you can approach the teacher and/or add it into your project. If you want to take a stand, and it's a 'bad' show, we WILL help you.

Someone who is a healthy weight (not excessively Hollywood-thin, or grossly obese) has thumbs up in my book. I have a lot of scarring, and when the accident happened I was told I should stay out of the sun because of it. So I am a pasty white, scarred woman who is overweight by many people's standard. But I'm OK with it. I can dress up nice, and my husband loves my big butt; so I guess all is well. That being said, if I had a fantasy body (MMORPG anyone?) I would be very tall, muscular, natural dark skin tone with long dark hair. Brazilian. But, then I'd be taller than hubby; we fit together pretty well right now.

Something that's motivated me to read is being here, and realizing how little I actually know about the gospel. So good first step :)

I have only made one VT visit so far, and since it was rather monumental (for me anyhow) I brought a bundt. My VTers never brought me cutesy things, honestly the most meaningful visit for me was when I was inactive and they visited anyway, they found out I had my wisdom teeth pulled and asked if they could bring their husbands over to give me a blessing. So I hear the "I'd rather have a friend" you were saying in the OP.

When an employee at my company peed in the general direction of another employee and it splattered, we had to treat it as an assault. I don't find this funny.

I google my name regularly, last time I did it was a bunch of articles about a basketball player with my maiden name, and then an article from years ago about me giving a graduation speech. I also: -share my first name with a Hindu god -share my last name with a British store -when I dig really deep, I share my maiden name with a porn actress (learned that one by accident on Ebay, actually) Don't think that my employer will hold that against me (I hope....)

Chai tea is "real" tea, caffeine or no. Just like lattes are coffee. If I was able to cut out my 3-a-day coffees, she could cut her daily chai. And yes I know how delicious they are.

How is no one caring about the double meaning of "hot Mormon muffins" that I posted 2 pages ago? Am I reading a bit too far in thinking that the phrase "hot Mormon muffins" could be taken wrongly on a racy calendar?
-
Wow. About to sound very arrogant and condescending.... I feel sorry for him, and am glad I don't see the world through his eyes.
-
I'm going to be the first to bring up the slang term for "muffin", The Online Slang Dictionary | Definition of muffin I think it's inappropriate. But I don't think the gals who posed should be excommunicated, just that it's inappropriate.

Oh no. Now I know why you changed your avatar to be a woman. And FTR, I made no presumptions about superdad until I went to Atheist's Corner. As you can see, I am a latecomer to this one.
