  1. I agree she was very brave. Will they be able to use today's taped testimony for the future trial? Or, while she's on her mission, will they have to bring her home to testify?
  2. "red x"
  3. Aw, I had a great one for Star Wars I was thinking it may have been the stance; one straight leg, one bent.
  4. Yeah, I had a huge problem with "Of Mice and Men" when I was a teen, too.
  5. Oh and Seattle, congrats on the new addition!
  6. I miss those days too, and I've been trying for it myself. Here's another vote for, if you dress 'em right in the beginning, they'll know the standards before they get to the dressing themselves age. Regarding the description by Blackrockshooter, they were talking about that on a TV show I watched a while back and said something like "Oh those mothers dress their kids like prostitots."
  7. Gwen, My brother got rejected from the Army because of his outie belly button. Something about "umbilical hernia". She could possibly have a hernia, which could be lived with or could be a medical problem. Ask Our Expert - Newborn's Belly Button ETA: I see Vort beat me to it while I was researching a link for you.
  8. They are in the top right corner, stating how long you've been here, how many times you've posted, how many laughs and thanks you've given/gotten. You are starting over, clean slate :)
  9. May I ask why? You just ruined your posting statistics!
  10. Also, it was "rape-rape"; here's a link to the LA Times article: Fugitive filmmaker Roman Polanski is seized in Switzerland -- latimes.com The arrest is the latest twist in a legal saga that has captivated and outraged the public since Jimmy Carter was president. In 1977, Polanski -- a household name both for his movies and for the Manson family murder of his then-wife, Sharon Tate -- was arrested at a Beverly Hills hotel and charged with raping and sodomizing a 13-year-old aspiring model. The girl told police the director had plied her with champagne and a piece of a quaalude during a photo shoot at actor Jack Nicholson's Mulholland Drive home. He then forced himself on her as she begged him to stop. Polanski reached a deal with prosecutors in which he pleaded guilty to a count of unlawful sex with a minor and prosecutors agreed not to pursue rape, sodomy and other charges. A judge ordered Polanski to spend 42 days in state prison for pre-sentencing "diagnostic testing." Polanski served the time and was released. But on the eve of his sentencing in 1978, he boarded a plane for Europe, never to return to the U.S.
  11. The answer to this is, Hitler was a writer and a painter; we should have never fought against him!
  12. I will paraphrase because I don't have my faith-promoting stories book with me. Pres. Monson told a story once about going to a funeral, and at that funeral he was met by a young girl (IIRC, she was 5 or 6 years old). The funeral was for that child's mother. She took him to the coffin, showing him her mother's body, and said "That's my mommy's body. Isn't she pretty?" When she noticed Pres. Monson's tears, she became concerned. "Don't cry, because Mommy is in heaven with God, and she'll watch over me all my life until I'm with her again." That story, to me, is what we should strive for in our faith. She believed so completely in God's promise of eternal families that, during a time that would have been most children's darkest hour (the loss of a loving parent) she was comforting other people! She trusted God to fulfill His end of the bargain, she understood that this life is a blip, and she had no doubt that she would be with her mother again one day.
  13. JAG, that second link is absolutely fascinating. Thanks for finding it.
  14. The 5 year difference between my hubby and me comes up regularly, I can't imagine that someone of a different generation would have so much in common with you to have an actual marriage. I'm going to make the comment that, if you marry her, it will become a mother-son type relationship. There's no way she has very many things in common with you. I can't see her as a rational adult. You are legal, but barely. I'll put in my vote for Go on your mission, at the very least. Talk to your bishop. Talk to your parents. There is something wrong with this relationship. I would say the same if the sexes were switched, and it was a middle aged man pursuing a teen girl.
  15. Going off the presumption that: Samhain was something of a Celtic "Memorial day", Los Dias de los Muertos is a Mexican "Memorial day" and Halloween is as much a Christian (or at least Catholic) holiday as Christmas Eve is (as shown by the second link in the OP). Did anyone click on the "Myths" link in the OP? Admittedly it didn't go into a lot of detail though. GrandmaAri, I am curious, do you have any sources you can cite as to the different origin of Halloween? Iggy did ask if anyone has anything to add, as his links correspond with what I've grown up with and learned since, so I am curious. Jena, I had a pagan friend in high school, he was cool with Halloween (mainly for the candy) being what it is today. Obviously he can't speak for all pagans, but he himself was cool with it.
  16. As an American of Scotch-Irish decent, that pretty much sums up what I know about Samhain Although there was/is a lot of attempted fortune telling, too. Something about the spirits of ancestors sharing their glimpses of your future. lol, I had a traditional Irish gal do my fortune 5 or 6 years ago...it hasn't come true yet. So that's why I say "attempted" fortune telling.
  17. Same here Pam. It's a very long survey anyhow, and without more explanation I don't feel the need nor desire to spend my time on it. Some of the questions did crack me up though. Such as, "Does the church believe in extraterrestrials?" and "How old are you?"
  18. For me, Scripture Mastery verses are highlighted in red and green, with a star at the front. Beyond that, I use read. Sometimes the whole verse, sometimes just part of it. I don't like to color the whole page, so I pick out what the nutshell of what is being said (to me). What's funny is that sometimes some other part is underlined next time instead.
