  1. In this case, I think it is not called Halloween because it will be the week before. The ward that is doing their activity on the 31st is calling it Halloween.
  2. Well happy day! It was announced in Sac. meeting today that our ward will be having a party; it will be the weekend BEFORE Halloween, and it will be called a 'autumn festival' but there will be room-to-room trick or treating.
  3. I thought I had posted to this, but my post seems to have disappeared. I said something about the shape of animal teeth and jaws and tongues et. al, as compared to human features. However, on further reflection, I don't see any reason why Balaam's ears couldn't have been changed, or his mind, to have the "gift of tongues" and understand what the donkey was saying in its limited way.
  4. It sounds like the Lord is truly working in your life. I agree, don't rush. Take your time and build your faith.
  5. A Valkyrie?? That is so different! I love it. Everyone's a witch or a reaper.
  6. She is 3. Really, making one isn't a huge problem; we can be creative. She was Ruby from Nick Jr's "Max and Rubby" last year.
  7. ADORABLE where di you find it?
  8. Unfortunately, outside of Utah, not so common. Right now there's a very good chance our ward won't get to do a trunk or treat because we didn't reserve the building and the ward that did doesn't want to share... We straight up call it a Halloween party though, not a fall festival.

  10. So, it is that time of year again. Anyone else noticing how much skin is showing on little girl costumes these days? I googled "lady bug costume" 'cause my 3-YO wants to be a lady bug. I think we'll be making our own costume (fortunately it is an easy costume to make...probably do it just to save da monies). I was just shocked at some of the pictures that popped up. Some were cute, and some were IMO not meant for a young child to wear. Others were not cute AND not modest. Lady Bug Child Girl’s Costume Ladybug Dress with Wings & Headband Child Costume And, sorry, this one made me laugh; warm legs, cold thighs...Why not just make spotted pants? Kids Ladybug Costume- Girls Ladybug Halloween Costumes It's not like there aren't modest ones out there. I was able to find some, not perfect but something modest anyway. It's amazing; but maybe I'm just ultrasensitive as to how much is proper for a kid to wear. Living in chilly areas does that to a person you know. Speaking of which, what do they expect kids to do in chilly parts of America? Wearing spaghetti straps in 45 degree weather is NOT COOL! It's cold. Anyway. Was curious what everyone's planning for Halloween, making costumes, skipping it altogether, or buying a costume and making alterations. Or heck, have you found a warm and modest outfit for the kids and want to share...
  11. That's plan "b" if there's no second wife to handle the homefront and I have to actually work
  12. I've thought of this before. If I die first and have to share the husman with whomever he remarries (though he swears he never will) I suppose I won't mind so much. I mean, I'll have someone to clean the stardust off the furniture and prevent the children from beating the crap from vipers, while I get to sit off to one side and read to the well-behaved ones.... There will be Dr. Seuss books in the afterlife, right? Heck, probably extended versions written by him in the post-life experience...Imagine how much fun he'll have with the word "Kolob"
  13. I'd like to meet any/all Ammon, Aaron, Omner and Himni. Their story is at least as inspiring as Alma the Younger's. They were vile sinners, they repented, they are remembered thousands of years later as selfless, death-defying missionaries...and they turned down a CROWN man!
  14. I would think that if the son was born to you, and you are married to another man who is the boy's bio dad, that you need to go through the Church hierarchy and get the sealing annulled, so you can be sealed to your 'new' husband. That way the boy can be sealed to his actual parents, not his mom and some guy she used to be married to. If hypothetically, a mother had a baby with a boyfriend and the man she HAD been sealed to was remarried and sealed to another woman, it becomes obvious that the first wife no longer is a part of a sealing covenant, as she has not lived the way she promised. ***** My parents adopted from Russia when I was 8. My bio sisters and I were allowed to watch the sealing ceremony, though not participate as we were born in the covenant.
  15. I'm confused. Did you call her at work? Also, as for email, there are a lot of people who have auto settings that delete emails from non-approved emailers. I'd approach her at church. And if that doesn't get a good result (namely an appointment), I'd get a friend or family member to go with me. Or go yourself; if you know the people you are visiting quite well, I don't think there's a problem with doing that.
  16. And no it does not make you a horrible person. There are some very distasteful tattoos out there, and some that have no meaning whatsoever behind them. Also if your culture and your background is, "tatto means tough guy" or "means gang member" or whatever, it is only natural to have an aversion when you see one in public.
  17. Deary, go back a little bit further, and expand your research. There are many cultures and many time periods in this world that have used tattoos. They have represented everything from power and accomplishments, to crimes, to "medicinal healings", to beauty marks, depending on the culture and the tattoo and the time period. For example, In Filipinno tribes, tattoos used to be a sign of beauty (Not sure if they still are). In Japan, it had spiritualistic backgrounds. I'm sure you've heard of the Samoan tradition, which still is going on after 2000 years. Celts had blue designs based on nature. Heck, research upper class England during the 19th century, you'll find out about tattoos galore (they were in fashion). The reason tattoos became known as sailor marks is because back in the day, sailors and the navy would travel to Japan, to the islands, and would get exotic looking tattoos to prove they had been there. Actually, the only cultures I know of that prohibit tattooing are Islam, Jewish and Christian. Even then most Christians interpret Lev. 19:28 to refer to the self-mutilation mourners used to do when their loved ones passed on.
  18. "Red and yellow, black or white, they are precious in his sight; Jesus loves the little children of the world!"
  19. Didn't read the whole thread, just the OP. I am of the opinion that the difference is: Desiring multiple wives, vs. desiring to follow the Lord. It seems that when He commanded early saints to practice polygamy, they did so because they desired to serve the Lord, not to serve their own loins.
  20. IMO, the sacrament makes fasting all the more difficult. I mean, you are hungry, you eat one solitary bite, and then you continue being hungry for the next couple hours. It's almost MORE of a sacrifice than just fasting would be. IMO.
  21. Interesting article...I feel for the caretakers that have been called liars and murderers, but have KNOWN they did not shake the babies, all this time...
  22. I find it interesting Thews, that you came to a thread started by a non-LDS, and started telling said non-LDS that he incorrectly understands LDS....but in other threads, you say you don't understand, even though you've been raised LDS.
  23. Latte, I grew up in the church, and in Utah, but I didn't know that "the church" taught God had carnal relations with Mary until a few months ago when I accidentally cruised onto an anti-Mormon website. It was news to me. So I think it's safe to say that, that particular teaching is no longer being taught mainstream, and only by those who want to use it for whatever goal they are using it for. Mainstream Mormons believe that Mary was a virgin when she gave birth to Jesus. Whomever of your friends that are believing otherwise probably have other differences of opinion (such as, maybe, interpretation of the BoM, and how J. Smith accomplished that. Off the top of my head.)
  24. Isn't the reason that women undergo so much discomfort (as Gnat puts it) because of the whole fruit thing? I was given to understand that resurrected bodies will not be subject to nausea, high blood pressure, bloating and so forth. Also what is time to an everlasting being? Who says the children will all grow/develop at the same rate? I am almost certain they will not. I don't agree with you Gnat, but I do thank you for the different perspective.
  25. Hmm, normaje, maybe people with tattoos had the young and dumb syndrom, and now they are good convert attendies. I have 2 tattoos. They both mean a lot to me so I will not go into detail here about what or where they are, as I can see from the above that there are people here who are not as forgiving or understanding as the people in my ward. Are tattoos graffiti, or a new paint job? As someone who has a ton of barbed wire scars on her neck and torso, and stretch marks from the knees up, and other misc. scars elsewhere, I don't see my meaningful, tasteful tattoos as any worse than the accidental hideousness.
