Unfortunately, it just takes once, and sometimes it's not a matter of an incompetent child or failed parenting. Sometimes bad things happen to good people. A few years ago, back in our old neighbourhood, my husband and I were in our driveway doing projects. Two young teen girls were on their way home, when a truck slowed and rolled to their pace, the man inside was cat-calling them. It was disgusting and I was concerned for the girls. My husband told the guy to take off, which didn't happen right away, but when he headed over to the girls, the driver was quick on the gas. At the time I memorised the plate. Anyway, this happened right out in the open, in front of us. Maybe he didn't try to abduct them but who knows what might have happened around the corner, or if nobody was around to see it? There are shady people out there that are looking to take advantage of children.

I hate funerals myself. My family knows that when they go, parents and siblings, I won't be there. I might consider the burial part, but I refuse to attend the viewing and any other such thing. A funeral of a neighbour boy (back in the Philippines) was really traumatic for me. I was 8 or 9. I knew him. My siblings and I played with him. He died of a failed heart. At his funeral, people were wailing and pawing over his body, it was really intense for me. I couldn't sleep that night. I was scared to death and kept seeing images of his body. Anyway, I must be the exception, because now as a 30-year old adult, I still hate funerals. Though, having been a hospice nurse for a long time, I was around death a lot, but it was different.

How do you handle funerals with very young children, let's say, 8 and under? If it's a family member that the child knew, is it too much for the child to see a lifeless body?

Let's talk "Airport Horror Stories"! I am living mine! :(

I can't think of a nightmare experience right off the bat. Losing luggage is never fun, or having it show up damaged, but that's always a risk with traveling. I'll be doing a lot of local flying inside the U.S. this year, and later in the year I'll be flying international to London. I'm not looking forward to the crazy checkpoints but I'll survive. At least I'm not pregnant this time! Last time I was almost 6 months preggers and everything was such a hassle! I won't go through a scanner when pregnant, so I had to wait until they were good and ready to frisk me down behind a lame curtain. -
Thanks for your input! I just needed some more opinions on it.

Other than having heard their names, totally unfamiliar with both, and not terribly interested in American football. It is football right? Lol So neither! To travel back in time or travel forward to the future?

My 3-year old daughter goes to preschool with a group of seven other children, two boys and five girls, all about the same age. She's made a small group of friends and is particularly fond of one of the little boys. I've watched them interact and they get along well. Tonight, my daughter spent a good amount of time making a nice drawing for him, and wants to give it to him next class. I'm nervous about how this might play out. It'd break my heart if she gave it to him and he tore it up or wouldn't take it because of "coodies". My husband and girl friend insist that the coodies plague doesn't kick-in at this age and think she'll be fine. Thoughts? As of now, I've put it in an envelope and got it ready for her to give him.

Are you close to your siblings and/or are your adult children close?
Bini replied to a topic in General Discussion
Not particularly close to any one sibling. I've always had closer connections with friends. That said, my family is scattered all over. Some of us are in the US and some in Europe. -
Wii because there's so many family games on there. House full of toddlers or house full of teens?
-
Batman. He's better looking. Fame or fortune?

Both but if I can only have one, I choose diet, because I'd rather not consume junk. Dancing or singing?

I have! It's been a long time but I remember jumping on that thing through rain and shine all year round. I also remember there's supposed to be a capacity limit but my siblings and I would jump on it with all our friends - it was crazy. HYE lost your patience in public and looked like a fool?
