What I think about the Word of Wisdom is irrelevant because it is what it is, and those following the gospel, are unlikely to argue it. But since I was asked, I'll share my feelings on it, though I am not LDS anymore. I think the WOW has some merit, in that it discourages the use of habit forming substances, but other than that I don't believe not following it causes automatic life down spiral. Everything in moderation, I believe.

I agree with Eowyn and Suzie. My thoughts are, we tend to over complicate things as adults, and develop this mindset of all or nothing, when the truth is, it's not about quantity but quality. How do you create a balanced and quality life for your family and yourself? Certainly, it can feel like a never ending juggling act, and as long as you're a parent, it will continue to be that way. But there are ways you can make it less stressful and exhausting. Get in the routine of designating a "play time" with your boys after work. When that time has expired, introduce a "down time", where they start to settle in for the night and you can begin to wind down as well. Your kids may not be fans of the down time period, but there is a time for everything, a time to play and a time to rest. Ensure you get time to rest, and with time, your boys will learn that even during down time their daddy still loves them. Best of luck!

Sponge Bob. I like the cartoons, fine, but the movie was pretty horrid. My husband and I had a real hard time watching it with our daughter.

We have two French Bulldogs.

I'm not interested in seeing it, but if it happened to be on TV, I wouldn't be opposed to watching it.

How much thought did you put into your kid's initials?
Bini replied to Bini's topic in General Discussion
My daughter's middle name is the same as my husband's per my strong request. It rolls so nicely. Our next child, male or female, will have my middle name, which is French and fortunately there is a masculine and feminine version. The initials don't spell or could be read as anything funny. -
Did you take into account what their first, middle, and last name might spell or be read as? You know...like the initials B.U.M or even just B.M (which will always be bowel movement to me lol).

I don't read books, unless, I have to. As in have to. I haven't had much interest in 50 Shades, but other than what others have mentioned of it, I'm not really even sure what the book or movie is about. I did see Magic Mike and felt that movie was super duper hyped to appear scandalous, which, it wasn't. It was actually a love story, with a few scenes of chiseled men wearing stereotypical stripper outfits (firemen etc.) dancing on stage - that was pretty much it. No excessive language, maybe one or two bombs, but there were many scenes of drinking and smoking - so that could be why it was rated R... Otherwise, it wasn't what people thought, especially, those that did not see it.

I'm not debating. Just voicing my opinion. Make of it what you will from my last two posts. Cheers :)

And firearms in comparison to horses or stoves, etc. is not a good comparison. Rarely, if ever, have I heard criminals turning to livestock or kitchen appliances as their choice weapon in committing a massacre. My opinion, of course :)

Vort, I'm just adding my opinion to the thread, as per the subject title. I have plenty gun toting (Republican :) ) family members to have heard everything there is to say from the other side of the fence. I'm not changing my views, their not changing theirs. That's perfectly fine with me :)

Don't want a Facebook group, that is currently one of our outlets, we need to graduate to something bigger with more options. What does Yahoo Groups offer? We are looking for a community discussion forum layout, much alike what this site is, and other based types.

I'm not interested in debating this topic. I stand firm in not wanting them around. And I'm not only concerned about criminals, but the innocent that are hurt or killed from a firearm being accessible. Too many home accidents lately, here in the US, where a toddler or teen gets their hands on their parents' firearms and someone is hurt or killed. I don't care whose fault it is - child or parent - one accident/fatality is one too many. Don't like them around.
-
My opinion: don't like them around.

I am literally bombarded by the vast array of options when it comes to choosing a community forum host. Some friends and I are wanting to start an online group. We need something that is easily setup and easily maintained, without much or any prior web design/programming knowledge. We can afford about a $30/month subscription fee. Does anyone have a couple recommendations for us to look at? Thanks.

Beautiful, Vort. I am pleasantly surprised by the variance in scenery here in Utah, depending on where you go. Some areas are desert landscape, with red rock and vast canyons, while other areas are dense and forest like. This state has grown on me a lot since I've lived here, and I almost feel offended when natives talk poorly of it.

I went with a gift for the child. She got a book and a building/sorting block activity.

Not a movie but my most recent TV watch was The Walking Dead, first of the back eight episodes. It was meh. But followers have been guaranteed a crazy season 5, so I'm hanging on for the good stuff to start!

Surrogacy and Church discipline
Bini replied to Bini's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
I would agree that perhaps the main concern might be the complications that come from a mother carrying another couples' baby and less about how the child is carried. But I want to stay on topic. This isn't a debate about whether you feel it's right or wrong, the discussion was whether surrogacy warrants disciplinary action, which from what was shared - it does not. -
I don't want to turn this into a bashing thread, personally, I support surrogacy but I'm curious about how a bishop would address a known surrogate mother. We've had discussion on surrogacy before but not in this context. I met a lovely lady who is LDS and is carrying a child for a couple overseas. I've known her for a few months now and we've talked about her unique situation. From what I understand, she has not received any kind of disciplinary action for her decision, minor or major. This makes me think that bishops/stake presidents handle surrogacy on a case by case basis. Would that be a correct assessment? If there is in fact a protocol that's supposed to be followed, what kind of disciplinary action would a surrogate mother receive?

How is everyone doing on their exercise programs in 2014?
Bini replied to Still_Small_Voice's topic in Health and Exercise
Well it's 2015 now and I am focusing on muscle tone. I'm wanting more defined muscles. Was looking into crossfit but I've been in hospital a couple times within the last 6 months and then had a surgery, so I don't think that programme is suited for me at this time, so doing the regular weight lifting in addition to my everyday morning run. -
What a story, AngelMarvel! Thank you for sharing.

I asked her. She wanted to be "surprised" and had no preference.

I like my food super spicy hot, but like with everyone, I have my limits. My BIL is a spicy hot enthusiast and likes to be challenged to try spicier and hotter whenever he can. I'm not like that, I will go as hot as my tongue can handle and my taste buds appreciate, after that I don't consider it a good eat.
