  1. That is interesting! Not familiar with them, though. I'll Google them.
  2. I wasn't raised in a superstitious family and therefore have never been superstitious myself, but in the past, I have found myself spooked easily and was a believer in supernatural occurrences, etc. Nowadays I'm much less stirred by unexplained things, and while I still get freaked out occasionally, I try to remind myself that the supernatural is not real.
  3. I have artichokes and am wanting to use them, either in a salad, or cold pasta dish. If you have a specific artichoke meal you enjoy, please share and post how its made. I'd like to whip something up in the next day or so :)
  4. Yeh but if there happens to be a Taken 4, you know you're gonna see it...
  5. Air Force One. I believe I first saw this in year 3, which is the equivalent to grade 3, back in the Philippines. Watched it again the other night and it was pretty dang good. I was surprised that I had recalled so much of it after all these years. Not the best movie ever made but it was good.
  6. I feel for him and any family that goes through this, especially, when you're under a public microscope. My views are very different from the vast majority on this site when it comes to these issues. I think we often forget that, regardless, how we feel we'd handle a situation - or even if we deem it bad news - that we continue to love our neighbours as ourselves. I hope whatever transition Jenner is going through that he'll find peace and be able to live his life as an equal member of society.
  7. Interstellar Finally got to see this and my opinion of it is a bit jumbled. Before I get to all that, though, the cast did a phenomenal job. Quite a few A-list actors took the screen but I felt the supporting actors equally pulled their weight. The CGI sequences were all done well, everything in this regard was believable, no short cuts taken here. The overall plot, on the other hand, was a hit and miss for me. I don't know enough about space to comment on the validity of the film's concept but how the story was told I've got a few thoughts. For me, the start to middle was intriguing, and really pulled me in. The idea of sending people off to find new habitable planets seemed viable, maybe not in present day, but not too far off either. This sort of creeped me out because of that reality being a possibility. But towards the end, the film took a strange turn and suddenly felt very science-fiction (though arguably the whole movie is just that) and not relateable at all. Still, things somewhat came together in the end, and was satisfying enough.
  8. We have a professional do ours because my husband had his own company and we have rentals.
  9. Gotta consider that the original Annie and new Annie are told in totally different eras. So, the newest installment (with modern amenities etc.) doesn't seem nearly as a "hard knock life" like the old version. But both versions portrayed how discarded children struggle with their identities and the drunk and nasty Ms. Hannigan that did nothing but verbally and emotionally abuse the girls she cared for. I quite liked it. I won't be surprised if this leading little lady (Annie) starts popping up in more films. She was great. And, Jamie, always knew he was talented but just never followed his work much.
  10. I think we're going about this the wrong way. The situation doesn't need to be dangerous or life threatening to validate an expecting mother to hydrate or snack. Dizziness and nausea brought on by pregnancy can literally make a woman non-functional, or at the very least, unable to participate in meetings or activities. She needn't be on her deathbed for a good reason to sip a bottle of water or have a snack. With my last pregnancy, I'd get dizzy spells and nausea where I couldn't see well or concentrate on anything, and often needed a snack of some sort which helped but didn't cure. If sipping a bottle of water or having a modest snack will help you attend your meetings and participate in activities, do it, and know that you're human like everyone else. It beats calling it quits on the whole day, skipping all your meetings and activities, because you're so uncomfortable otherwise. Common sense. I don't think this is a righteous or unrighteous situation, at all. Like with other similar topics, if you take MEDS that require some sort of snack accompaniment, I'm sure God gets that.
  11. Oh I forgot to chime in on this. I don't think there's a one-fit-answer for everyone, in fact, I'm 100% certain there isn't. If you are a high risk pregnancy, follow your OBGYN's orders, and anything you're iffy about - ask for clarification. Otherwise, it's true that pregnant women are not delicate flowers, having been one and now one again, I think we're built pretty dang sturdy and are more than capable BUT common sense is important. Unnecessary stresses (physical or psychological) can be upsetting to pregnancy, and sometimes no matter how much preparation you do, there are just some things you'll find that end up out of your control. If you start feeling light-headed and dizzy, for goodness sake, drink some water or have a nibble - fast or no fast.
  12. I know a handful of people that claim to have felt or seen good spirits/angels. As for my personal experience, I've had some interesting situations that I cannot explain, but I'm sceptical of spirits/angels - didn't always used to be that way - I used to be very superstitious and a believer in the supernatural.
  13. Congrats! Here we go again
  14. Are we twins? I'm 2 months now
  15. Annie (the new rendition) Surprisingly entertaining, despite not being a fan of Cameron Diaz, nor really following many movies of Jamie Foxx. I thought the cast, overall, dead a great job. The leading little lady is a vibrant young actress, refreshing, and fit the part perfectly. The musical numbers had new spins and while not as memorable as the originals, were catchy and fun. Jamie Foxx is a very talented man! The acting/chemistry between Annie and Mr. Stacks was fluid and believable, though it didn't bring me to tears, there were definitely parts that were moving. Pretty good family movie, with a couple adult innuendos and rude humour, but nothing above a PG13 in my opinion. My daughter, who is 3, was perhaps a bit too young to appreciate the story but she loved seeing the 'foster' girls singing and dancing. We rented it on Redbox and wasn't disappointed.
  16. I like the ring of "garden party". I might do that today outside with my daughter :)
  17. I dunno... While America has the reputation of everything in excess, and its population being obese, I think many other countries are finding themselves in the same situation anymore. I've noticed how much the UK has changed over the years. I remember when restaurant drive-thrus weren't common and buffets were pretty rare but nowadays you find them everywhere. Portions have definitely got way bigger. I think the same could be said for the Philippines and many other Asian countries. I recently traveled to Hong Kong and Thailand not too long ago, and while they continue to eat traditional food, western culture has definitely swept the region and you're seeing more obese (or at least heavy set) children and teens. Anyway, a seemingly well-balanced body weight doesn't automatically equate to good health, just as a seemingly over-weight body doesn't automatically equate to poor health. It's really hard to judge an individual's health solely based on their weight. I think some ethnic groups can get away with bad food choices and not necessarily pack on weight, but on the inside, yeh not good.
  18. The gender bends on superheroes and other fictional TV/movie heroes is pretty cool. There's lots of great renditions on YouTube of male characters betrayed as female, and vice-versa. Some use real people and not animation, and yet, still capture the character perfectly.
  19. I am not particularly fond of one of his brothers. He has three and he is the youngest. The other two aren't bad but the one brother just creeps me out. Unfortunately, he's the closest one to us, but fortunately, my husband has zero interest doing anything with that brother. Yay!
  20. Okay, Suzie, naaasty! lol Haven't had eggs in our household in a long time, from the looks of things, my husband and daughter are transitioning (without much effort) into vegetarian lifestyle. They may even go straight vegan one of these days. We shall see.
  21. No noodles for you!
  22. I have family who reside in St. George and it's beautiful down there. I've traveled many places around the world and there isn't anything quite like southern Utah. It is truly a magnificent vista to behold. Aside from the scenery, it is much slower paced (though growing with the times) and real estate is unbelievably affordable down there - beautiful homes for great prices. In addition, lots of outdoor activities to participate in and 55+ groups where you can meet people with similar interests. In some parts there are "small town mindsets" but overall, I wouldn't be opposed to retire down there with my husband in the future. While it is densely LDS, there is actually quite a bit of diversity, as well. Lots of Polynesian culture and a growing Latino culture, which is awesome, especially when fairs roll around.
  23. Thanks for sharing. Lots of points I agree with.
  24. I have not!
  25. I tend to agree with the quote. My marriage is interracial but where mine differs from perhaps others, is the fact that I was adopted by a Caucasian family, and raised in such culture. (Though European, not American.) I am Filipino and my husband is Dutch. But because his family is traditional Dutch and not American-Dutch, there are many things we can relate to, and our cultural backgrounds aren't so far off - only by skin colour do we seem very different. I have a cousin who is Caucasian (Brit) who married a Caucasian woman (American) after serving a mission in Las Vegas. While both were "White", they're cultural backgrounds made the first few years of their marriage very challenging, and things didn't look good at one point. They made it work, however, and are still married and have a beautiful family - though - they moved to London where he works as a physician and she is so terribly homesick and hates it there... So definitely challenges.
