  1. What do you mean? As far as functioning, the device will work the same, as I've traveled with my iPhone/iPad all over outside the USA and haven't had any problems.
  2. For a mission, I think buying preowned is a great idea, and maybe even an older gen, which should also cut down on price.
  3. If you get the item new, you pay the new price. If you get the item second-hand, you get a discount.
  4. I can appreciate the message and do. I am totally on board with what Vort has said. I think he's on point. I would just say, and this is my own opinion, I don't like the idea of saying something literal and not meaning it literally. Did that make sense? Probably not, ha.
  5. I do have a question, though, if someone would like to respond. Do the missionaries get to keep these iPads as personal property after their missions? If so, do the missionaries that went on a mission funded by the ward (because their family could not pay for them to serve a mission) also get to keep them?
  6. Dunno how missions work but I'd be annoyed as well, and yes, there are cheaper alternatives to Apple products (though my household is strictly one.).
  7. I think when I have openly told people that I am no longer Mormon or Christian, for that matter, and they go out of their way to send me stuff that is the complete opposite of what I believe - that is rude.
  8. I quite enjoy this site. There are a handful of members that I find pleasant, helpful, and even sometimes entertaining. I like that there's diversity and that no one is ever alone on a subject. (Even us left wingers.) I have been inspired and have learnt a lot since joining this site. Even if my religious views no longer align with the foundation of this forum, I continue to frequent here for the great discussions, and to share my thoughts on various topics. I guess I should add, my leaving the Church had nothing to do with LDS.net.
  9. This is from my own experience, take it as you will. I pretty much grew up in the LDS Church. Both my parents are obedient followers and many of my siblings are. I've been active and inactive on and off, but officially resigned at the beginning of the new year, and I am feeling the difference. I'm not so quick to refer to myself as an atheist but I currently do not believe there is a god or gods. The idea that there might be something greater out there, though, is something I'm open to. Anyway, this new outlook on life has made me more aware of my Mormon friends and Christian friends in general. I used to not mind so much when people would post on my Facebook religious or spiritual memes, but now, it's kind of annoying and even a bit offensive, especially since I have "come out" about my religious status. From time to time, I'll get religious friends raising a brow when I share my views on social issues, and while some have the decency to respect my opinion, others are quick to point out that it is not god's way. (They forget I do not believe in god or gods.)
  10. Wow, just wow. If you must make a comment about something you have never experienced, with someone who is foot deep in it, you'd better have a tactful way of approaching that subject.
  11. Just caught news of this. I only know his work from Star Trek but apparently he has been involved in many projects during his lifetime.
  12. TFP, there was a Brain Games app and it was pretty interesting in how my brain interpreted stuff in comparison to my husband's.
  13. My last thought on this is if she knew her budget (hopefully she had an inkling of what that was) she should have browsed stores in that budget range. I have walked into many malls that sell formal dresses, and they tend to also sell affordable bride's gowns, I'd say easily in the $200 range. Certainly, if you go into a boutique, you should expect to pay a pretty penny.
  14. I did see this thread but didn't connect it as a movie review. Thank you.
  15. The Interview It was on Netflix. It's funny but very crude.
  16. Vort, I would have loved to read your review. My inlaws enjoyed it and I've really wanted to see it. I'm not sure how much longer it'll be at the cinemas though. But I guess we can always go to RedBox.
  17. My 3-year old sees white and gold. Hasn't changed.
  18. So this made national news this morning. It's so interesting that the population is seeing different things. I have a friend that just had a baby and she first saw the dress white and gold, but now, the next day, sees black and blue. So for her it changed. I'm wondering if the post pregnancy thing is to explain the two versions she saw.
  19. But also, the picture quality is pretty bad, and the contrast lighting doesn't help.
  20. That's what I see, too. My husband sees grey-green and periwinkle.
  21. This is a great forum, with a lot of diversity, too. Welcome aboard :)
  22. You don't even have to read the BOM to be baptised. My whole family was baptised, and I'm pretty sure my father and only a couple siblings actually read the BOM, but myself and my mum did not. So if you haven't read it, I suppose, it's debatable in whether you can accept it as being truth. Though my mum certainly believes it is.
  23. If your relationship with him is sound, he'll understand either way, whether you go or not. I would go, but I'm not opposed to same-sex anything, I very much support the LGBT movement in equality to not be treated any different from any other group of human beings.
  24. There are prom dresses that cost that much, so I'd agree that for a wedding gown, it's a pretty modest price tag - but I suppose that all depends on how well off you are. I guess it's a common notion that parents of the bride pay for all the wedding expenses, including, the gown. If this young woman falls into that category, then I can understand how being the 7th child is noteworthy of being mentioned, in reference to her financial position. But I know plenty of ladies that bought their own gown and paid for their own weddings on their own dime, and they're not rolling in the dough, either.
  25. What a generous donation. I would feel very uncomfortable if someone purchased a big ticket item like that for me without discussing it with me first. But who turns down something fabulous like that? I hope this bride-to-be finds a way to pay it forward, whether it reaches the secret stranger or not, maybe she can spend that same amount of money on someone else once she gets her finances in order.
