  1. I always wondered something and guess I never had the nerve to ask a gay person. Why not go by the word "partner" and just fight for your rights as "partners" instead of trying to say marriage? I have heard the argument that you want the rights as couples do. I heard the story of partners who were not able to be with their partner when they were dying because of laws. This is wrong. This is sad. Why not just fight to build up those rights? Why, does it have to be a marriage? In my opinion "marriage" is not another "word" that can be changed to suit others. This is more then a word.
  2. There was the little boy who decided he wanted a nut and butter sandwich instead of the Sacrament being passed. :) My first calling was in the Nursery. On my first day several of the parents told me about a little boy and girl that were biters. They never bit each other just the other children. After several close calls I put both in time out. I set a little chair on both sides of a very large cabinet. I talked to them and sit them down. I walked across the room and sit the others down to color some pictures. I heard a clicking sound before I reached the others. I looked back over my shoulder. Both of them had stuck their little heads around the side of the cabinet. They were looking at each other and chopping their little teeth at each other. It reminded me of two old people clicking their false teeth. They so wanted to bite each other. :) After that day, they never bit other children. They would just click their teeth at each other.
  3. Mahone, I wish I could click on the laugh button again. :) Bl8tant, if my hubby can learn anyone can. But at last I believe I have created a monster. :) Now my kitchen is full of just have to have tools that he just had to have. :) I hide the sale page Bed and Bath :)I showed him how to use a knife to chop vegetables. He now has 3 tools that do that:) good luck
  4. Quick meals- for those days you need a meal quick. I have Browned off Hamburger meat with onions, salt, and pepper. Amount is what ever fits your needs. Store in the freezer in a gallon freezer bag. Take out what you need for meals like: *Tacos- Taco shells. shredded cheese, chopped tomatoes, shredded lettuce, pkg. of taco seasoning. Heat Hamburger meat and follow directions on pkg. of taco seasoning. *Follow directions on a box of Macroni and Cheese( your choice) Heat up Hamburger meat and add to the Macroni and Cheese. Add a can of vegetable or salad and you have a meal. * Follow directions on a bag of frozen Hash Browns. After the potatoes are lightly brown you can stir in some of the frozen Hamburger meat. Sprinkle top with shredded cheese. Good luck! Remember if your Hambuger is very lean you will have to use Pam Spray or some cooking oil to brown off the Hamburger. The good thing about doing this is...you can use any amount of Hamburger to make any amount. :)
  5. Yes, I felt like something was missing also. The Plan of Salvation answered several of my questions. I always wondered why would Jesus Christ do what He did? Why was it necessary?
  6. Just because I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints does not mean I am better then anyone else. It just means I have more opportunity and truths to help me to do those things, I need to do to return to my Heavenly Father. The benefit for others is since I have chosen Jesus as my example to follow then I see things diffrent. Yes, the agrument could be that others who do not have religion can do this. My thoughts is enviroment helps create and set up how you feel and react to those things happening around you. The enviroment of a religion seems to set up (in) most cases an enviroment that encourages good behavior. This is not to say people outside of religion can not have the same experience in other enviroments. It just means the opportunity presents itself in a way that reminds people to do so. I know my Father in Heaven expects me to react in a certain way. I do not do so out of fear. I do so out of love. I know He loves me. He gave His son. I know my brother Jesus loves me. He gave his life and through his atonement gave me a better life. I believe behind this was love and not fear. You know something I just thought of: Behavior is learned both ways. When we do for others, it makes us better people. When we recieve from others it makes us better people. So all people are better because of religion even if you do not belong to a certain church or religion. It takes all kinds to make this world.
  7. Maya, alot of the rooms here in the states are very small. In our Ward we have some class rooms that if you get 8 children and a teacher you are doing good. We have 2 classes that will hold maybe 10 children, but that is side by side and if the teacher turns side ways a little. She can reach out and touch the first row. My Nursery is 2 rooms divide by a bi-fold door that can be pulled back to the wall. I have no room for shelves. I have a built in at the end of one of the rooms. It takes up at least 2 1/2 feet of that room one room. My small table fits from one wall to the other. I have 9 children and sometimes a few more if they are not a sleep after Sacrament because we have the afternoon meeting time. You add 2 teachers and if we didn't pull back the table and stack chairs they have no room to play. It would be very hard for them to have that little space. Add any aggressive behavior and one push could wipe out a couple of children. Makes it very tough. When we have activity play the other Nursery Leader does the play activity, while I stand back to handle any of the happy aggression that takes place when they get excited. :) They wiggle and jump and play ring around the rosy. This old lady does not fall down anymore very good. :) The rule is everything has to bee cleaned up before we can play or blow bubbles. If not there would be no room for these activities as a group. This the only way we can do this.
  8. Maybe a sandwich , but however you put it together and what ever you put in the sandwich ...unless it has peanut butter and jelly ...it is not a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. When I became a member of this Church I made several changes in my life. I accepted the Gospel as being true. I accepted that there was a living prophet leading this Church. This prophet speaks of those things our Heavenly Father wants us to know. There has been several prophets that have define and taught us what marriage is. If in the future, this prophet or other future prophets defines marriage as something else then I know what he says and teaches is from Heavenly Father.
  9. Familes O and Zombies, Wolves, and Robots 1 = another Child of God that does not know where he comes from and will have to find themselves They find themselves without the support of a family. I lived in a family where my mother had to support 5 children. She had 2 jobs working 12 to 14 hours. We had each other and knew it. That was more then a few years ago. Now days, even the remaining parent seems to disolve into trying to find themselves. Sad, the break down of the family is now the norm and that support group is a world in trouble trying to find those bonds of love and support that was once called "Family".
  10. :) I think it is always interesting how someone from another country handles working with our little ones. :) How many do you have, Maya in your children's room? Have you ever gone to a site called e Primary This sister has great clip art and line drawings of the scripture stories that make it easy to copy. She also has pulled pictures from church magazines that you can use. Line drawings that can be turned into flannel stories that would allow your little ones to put together on boards covered with flannel. You can use small squares or dots of light sand paper on the back so they will stick to the flannel. you can color the front with crayons. Have you seen the new nursery manual? Have a lot of pictures in that also. My little ones do not like to just color. So I do try to have an activity that moves or opens to something. They love this. I enjoy your suggestions and think we can use this mmm except with the water. lolol I have too many little ones that think something has to go into the water. I have one little girl that dunks her snack into her water. :) nothing like soggy cheese crackers. :)
  11. * I make copies of instructions of activity verses and all of the songs and put them in protector sheets. (These I make into the largest font that will fit on one page so I can see them at a glance) I file them in a notebook. Then when I use teacher's putty I can clean them up after I display them and put them in the notebook. * I am going to do the same thing to the extra scripture stories that I am making for the closet. Just in case I can not be there, these stories can be use for extra lessons.
  12. Jayanna, I agree they love to take something home. The new manual is great. The line drawings make it easy. Even if you do not have a copy machine you can trace the lines to produce something for the little ones.
  13. Yes, on the comfortable clothing :) Also we make it a rule that while one is down on the floor, the other is up. Just in case. These "little ones" move fast. * Baby gates on the doors. So many of the Nursery doors have those handles that push pull down and they are out. We have 2 doors. We try to put the baby gate on at least one of the doors. We can put them on and still shut the doors. I was down one time playing blocks with some little ones. I had put the gates up out of the way because we had none who could even reach the handle. One of our little boys seem to have grown over the week :) Out the door he went. So the next week I put the gates up. :) He did not know. So while the other nursery leader and I were busy I saw him get up and move toward the door. As I was getting up and telling him not to go out the door. He, with the biggest grin pulled on the handle and out he tried to go. The look on his face was priceless. :)
  14. Great, love the puppets, such a cute idea. Saved the site to favorites. Already have some lessons I can use them on. I have been thinking about making some extra lessons to put into the closet. Lessons that could be used for any lesson. These would be bible and Bk of Mormon Stories that I could use at those times when something just doesn't work, or for those times when you just need something extra, or for those times when I can not be there. A set of those puppets would be great for the box. :)
  15. Tarnished, :) I suddenly was called to the Nursery again last year mmmm lets just say not going to happen. (having children that is) :) I tried to edit the title but can not change it????
  16. If they were mine I would have them clean the neighborhood as a community service. This after I show them every home invasion clip I could find on the internet. People are scared. These young men could have been killed because of that fact. Some people might shoot before finding out what was happening.
  17. Carseat and then a baby fund that you pay into until You catch things on sale or at garage sales or resale shops. Be smart. Temptation is great :) I could not pass the girls baby dept at Walmart which so happen to be right next to the groceries dept. when my daughter's twins were born. Sigh and most of the stuff I bought they grew out of so fast. So if I could advise anything it would be control. lololol Something as a nannie I had none.
  18. :) I thought it might be fun to start a thread on your favorite teaching hint. It does not have to be Nursery just moving forward the Gospel through our youth. *One of the things I do is arrange on the wall just opposite of where I am teaching all those things I am teaching. Stories and Activities words, major points I want to make, and songs ( only the words ), and schedule so that with a glance I know where I am. This also helps my assistant and any adult visitors know what I am doing. I tell all the adults if you stay the words are on the wall so please help. This way my eye contact can be with the "little ones" and not on a manual. If you can get their attention you can teach. *Coffee filters for holding snacks. You can buy a lot cheap. *Safety tip: turn chalk board upside down , putting tray up at the top. You can still use the chalk board but the tray is not at eye level for these little ones. * Put contact paper or postal tape over the legs of the brads after they have been opened. This will make it harder for the little ones to get the brads out and pop into the mouth.
  19. The truth is only you can take this step though. You have to make up your mind and know your Heavenly Father supports you. He supports you through others actions and words. You have to take the steps that will make it so. I agree with the others that even if it is one step forward this is better then none. Then get busy, there is nothing like helping others to get rid of guilt. Know your worth as a Child of God. Know you will find that worth as you pray, read the scriptures, attend your meetings, and do those works that are needed. Never let a day go by that you have done at least one of these even if you find yourself at the last minute of the day you can pray. One step at a time moving forward will build a foundation that can support you
  20. I want color. I love blues and greens. I have used teal before in my bathroom, but this year it seems that color has more green in it. I want more blue then green. Nancey I love the color aquamarine but the only one I could find that had aqua in the name was "aqua ocean" which I am going to use on my ceiling. I am using "Bayside" for the walls. It leans toward the color turquoise more. Anatess loved what you did. Gwen thanks for the ceiling idea. Nancey I love your sense of color. I want a color that will lower my stress levels when I enter. I think this combination will do it. Several of you have mention "Sandlewood" and the fact it has green in it. I may use this to tie in the rest of the house to the colors I use in diffrent rooms. :) Just wait till she sees the color her 89 year old grandmother wants. She wants green and not sandlewood. :)
  21. Ok came in for lunch and I am off to another store. Ok so teal or at least Tempting Teal is not what I want (to dark) so I came home to get a shirt that has the color that I want and off again. I have decided that color I want is almost the color you see when you hit the post quick reply button :) I know this might be the ravings of a senior moment :) Thanks for the replies ... and the humor.
  22. We are painting the rooms in our home. We do not plan to resale this home. ( the kids will just have to deal with it) I am going to paint my bedroom teal. My daughter is about to have a heart-attack. So in a few hours I am going to go buy that paint, before she talks her Dad out of it. What is it? They can cover their rooms in posters, names, and , art and when mom decides to paint the whole room teal, I am having a Senior moment and should think about it. Thanks just had to get this off my mind before I go to the store and buy paint. It will be teal. What color would you paint your bedroom? (will this question make this post a legal thread?) instead an insane rant at 6:00 in the morning while waiting for the store to open.
  23. Had a sudden vision of my twin granddaughters asking me help tie their shoes before school. No way!!
  24. How they do that? Makes you wonder who had the nerve to make the first climb.
