  1. I love animals very much too and I have prayed over them when injured and watched them be healed. Others I have prayed over and sadly but reassuringly watched them leave me to make their merry way to the Spirit world with me promising to be a 'good girl' so I can see them again someday. A few years ago I used to live on a farm and one day I found my beautiful pet lamb laying on the ground under a heavy gate which had somehow fallen on him. He wasn't moving. It was an awful sight. I knelt down and prayed for help to get the heavy gate off the lamb and prayed for him to recover. I got up picked up the heavy gate (easily I might add) and carried my lamb inside. I kept him warm as I watched the miracle of his recovery unfold. I cried with joy and thanksgiving for the beautiful gift of more earthly time with my beloved pet. :) I haven't thought about putting pets names on the prayer roll when they are ill but I like the idea of putting their owners names on it. I love this article called "the Gospel and Animals" on lds.org It has helped me and many of my animal loving friends both members and non members alike. 2. I have been enjoying the handouts for the Old Testament Lessons from this site Hic et Nunc Here's lesson #3 http://salgoud.wordpress.com/files/2010/01/gospel-doctrine-lesson-ot-3-011710.pdf It is so good to be able to read these lesson helps so I can better understand the Old Testament which is my weakest area. Thanks
  3. I am glad you asked this question. I lost the Old Testament Forum and I have been looking in Gospel Discussions everywhere for lesson #3. So there you are Ruthiechan you are not the only 'loony' around.

  6. Melissa A police car following her tried to get her to STOP. The moment they turned on their lights Melissa jammed her brakes so hard they weren't able to stop in time and they drove the police car into the back of her car. The police officers were only trying to get her attention to stop so they could inform her that her dress was hanging out the door and dragging on the ground.
  7. I prefer to mark my scriptures with the red marking pencil from distribution. I mark those verses that I feel inspired and uplifted by when reading. I also mark those I receive in answer to prayer and others that I just love to read. On days I feel down, or am not concentrating well in my studies I just flick through those verses I have marked and I feel uplifted in one way or another from reading them. I sometimes put a date near particular scriptures that I read for example when I am going through a rough time. I have chanced upon those verses months or even years after the trial has eased or is over and I feel reassured and encouraged at the progression that I have made since I marked the verse/s. Personally I don't see the value in marking every scripture I read because I don't want to turn my scriptures into a colouring book. I prefer to learn from the verses I am highlighting rather than highlighting to impress. This is what works for me.
  8. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to experience such a catestrophic disaster. My heart felt prayers go to everyone affected by the quake. Sad so sad:weep: I am so grateful to be a member of the Church because I know in times like this the Church is there, ready willing and able to help. :)

  10. Hi Melissa I am like you I don't know anything about who Lilth is in fact I have never heard of her and I don't really care to know. I actually care to know about Eve and am so glad I have learnt what I have since becoming a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints only 11 years ago. Before then the "Original Sin" bit got to me throughout my life and I had difficulty with being told I was born sinful and treated bad for being a woman because of Eve. The whole hell and damnation that I had thrust upon me and the mean horrible 'thing' that God was made out to be only instilled fear in me at a young age. But now I relax in the knowledge and truth of why Adam fell so that we might have joy and that I am responsible for my OWN transgressions and not those of others. The best of all is I learnt that God IS my Heavenly Father who loves me and He genuinely wants me to be happy. It was a relief to learn that He is not a 'thing' that is mean and nasty but that He lives and is ever loving and I can turn to Him and not have FEAR of Him but LOVE Him. In fact even in the last day or so I have learnt so much about Eve just by reading a wonderful article titled "The Wisom and Intelligence of Eve" from Meridian Magazine. (Link below) It is fantastic. I invite you to read it as it may help you with the Eve/sin issue. The article certainly helped me gain a better understanding and my testimony of Eve grew in the knowledge that she is the Mother of All Living. I admire the fact that Adam and Eve loved God so much that they would follow His commandment to multiply and replenish the earth and by staying in the garden they couldn't do so. They also proved that they loved each other that they would die for each other as was the case in leaving the garden. They partook of the fruit so that WE could live on earth too and gain our mortal bodies just like they did and have children too. I am so grateful that Eve did partake and that Adam saw the significance of her actions. Way to go EVE (& Adam too) Here are a couple of quotes from the article - In the Christian world today, Eve’s name is associated with sin..... Nearly every culture and intellectual tradition, from Catholic original sin to the Greek tale of Pandora’s box, has a foundational story that in effect says, “The first woman ruined everything.” This paradigm is so ubiquitous and omnipresent in how institutions and societies function today, that Latter-day Saints need a thorough education on interpreting and explaining the Eve story, so they will be ready to defend her true name. 11. Thanks Pam I didn't realise that about the youtube video's - oh dear I have posted youtube videos in two threads already so I am sorry about the mess I may have caused.
  12. Thanks for the welcome, I must admit it can be a bit daunting especially when I need a Priesthood blessing etc but I am not too far away from a chapel & other members. There are others who live further away than an hour and a half so it could be worse. Like you I am an only member and hear what you had to say about being 'rough'. I would love to have family prayer, gospel chats etc with family in my home and I guess you would feel the same. One day - who knows? I don't feel alone though because I know I am not alone.
  13. G’day friends I must say I have enjoyed reading your comments about down-under, up-over, up-above etc – It is nice to hear from other Aussie’s too from all around the world. I just love being an Aussie because of the humour in our slang, nicknames and the ability to laugh at ourselves. I would like to share a few of my favourite videos that capture the beauty, and the terror of the wide brown land I so love. Links below The songs accompanying the scenes depict the Aussie spirit that makes the island continent so unique. Enjoy A verse from my favourite poem “My Country” by Dorothea Mackellar I love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains, Of ragged mountain ranges, Of droughts and flooding rains. I love her far horizons; I love her jewel-sea, Her beauty and her terror - The wide brown land for me! 14. I couldn't resist sharing this video about a movie which I haven't seen yet. It sort of reminded me of my goanna road kill in my previous post. But my story was nowhere as bizarre as the fellows who feature in this video If you want a good sidesplitting laugh check it out Kangaroo Jack - The Best Scene YouTube - Kangaroo Jack - The Best Scene
  15. I received one email within a day of joining lds.net thankfully I didn't have the time or energy to reply. I actually felt warned as well not to reply now I know why. Sometimes I need to be in cognito as need4peace and interact without pressure and don't need to be bombarded with con emails. I am glad this topic has been posted to save us from replying to these scammers who act so nice and friendly.
  16. I was driving along a bush road here in Aussieland, with my Mum and my two sons when the car towing a trailer in front of me suddenly breaked and swerved. It was too late when I realised that the car had swerved to miss hitting a goanna sunning itself on the road. Sadly I ran over it! While I was sending the goanna to heaven I saw some tourists with camera at the ready waiting to take a photo of the goanna basking in the sun. It all seemed to go in slow motion as I watched in the rear view mirror the poor goanna bouncing down the road. I tried so hard not to laugh at the surprised look on the faces of the tourists as they observed their subject disappearing before their very eyes and my car driving off into the sunset. I guess they had the 'perfect' holiday shot of a goanna in the wild - well - until I came along that is. Mum and I laughed and laughed at what had transpired - the look on their faces was priceless. My two sons were very upset with me for running over the goanna and our laughing didn't help in our efforts to convince them I didn't mean it
  17. :) I am new to lds.net and am so glad to find this thread for this years Old Testament lessons. I somehow missed the previous Old Testament lessons probably because I was in Primary in the years it was being studied since I was baptised 11 years ago. I read the book Peacegiver by James L Ferrell and just loved his story involving sections of the Old Testament and I learnt so much. However as I read the book I realised that I hardly knew anything about the Old Testament and it's time I did. Bring it on!!! Cheers :) No, God does not need us to love Him. But oh, how we need to love God! Dieter F. Uchtdorf
  18. Gee that was quick! Thanks for the welcome Pam
  19. I am looking forward to finding my way around this site and conversing with fellow members of the Church and learning and sharing as I go. I am the only member in my town and live just over an hour away from the nearest chapel. I love it here and enjoy church/the gospel so much that the trip is worth the time it takes to meet with fellow Saints and take the Sacrament.
