  1. ...the best-laid plans...
  2. Good enough for me!
  3. Yes, but I was aiming for genre, if you will.
  4. Inspired by ThePrimate's topic of hymn-based sacrament meetings. Feel free to vote for as many as you would like.
  5. I always suggest "Lead Kindly Light" or "How Great Thou Art"
  6. ...I've never actually thought about it... No, I have. I imagined some vague idea of a genetically perfect race before diseases crept in. ... with no consciousness notice of skin color.
  7. All the singles/college wards I've ever been to have done it. I've always liked it.
  8. I am so sorry for you in this situation. I truly would investigate other explanations for your daughter's situation. You are far from the first family to be accused incorrectly of abuse, though I do want to know your husband's reasoning. Actively reach out to your ward. Someone there will care for you.
  9. Congrats! Beefche, that is a very flattering dress and I'm a big fan of the sleeves! The groom is okay, too. I guess he matches decently.
  10. Like slamjet said, a skidrow cardboard box is something of an indication that it might not be the best time to bring a child into the world. But at some time during your life going on assistance doesn't necessarily mean too many kids. What about all the much tinier families that have to take welfare?
  11. I agree with this. Generally speaking I have little patience for the welfare system.
  12. ...if you can get to a pretty good simulation of "drunkeness" off of caffeine-free rootbeer and ice cream.
  13. You just can't please everyone.
  14. I'm going with "scalable". I don't think I was looking at all at spirit/letter of the law at all; just on how the gospel has appeared over various dispensations. To me, flexible sounds a little too convenient. That being said, I do think things can alter depending on the people and situations. Vort brought up the letter vs spirit. I look at the 10 Commandments and the rest of the Law of Moses as something of a simplified version of all that we should be doing. It's simpler and specific, but it did provide a great framework. Scalable, to me, makes it sound like things adjust more than change and alter. The Law of Moses was the same principles we believe in, just scaled to the situation. I know a lot of people complain about and leave the church over seeming changes to the gospel. Those that I have studied seem to maintain the same idea--only the details of how it was brought about our different. I see that as an adjustment.
  15. My husband and I were talking about this. We are continuing with our decision to wait till he has his degree next year, but on the subject of affording them? So many other countries have such poverty levels and manage to raise healthy, happy children. I'm not saying we should be ashamed of our prosperity or try to raise kids in nothing but a plot of dirt if we can help it, but we do think there is something about our culture that dictates just what it means to "afford kids".
  16. I second the idea that "talking dirty" in the way I interpret isn't the best thing to do in a married relationship. That being said... I think there can be intense flirtation that could qualify as sexting in that you probably wouldn't want a kid/teen reading it.
  17. My question... What exactly was the reason(s) the early Saints practices rebaptism?
  18. But why does the desire to be the same in spirit and desire automatically rule out other differences?
  19. Exactly. If nothing else, it's nice to have someone to whom you can express your thoughts and feelings.
  20. I"m waiting for the "answer sheet".
  21. Once you get names like Xaviera and Yolando it's hard to be fully serious...
  22. Anytime, Vort. Anytime. I do trust that everything will work out in the Millenium, no argument there, for I believe God is good and just and merciful. But it's still nice to know the actual details.
  23. I guess the question is not whether or not the individual can be rebaptized, but whether or not it is necessary.
