  1. Went yesterday to pick up temple clothes. Mentioned I didn't like the Carinessa II bottom in the hot months and suddenly found myself covered in tape measure. I think a good employee at the distribution center will do the same thing for you. If you're ordering online, I think they have a measurement guide there.
  2. The "breathing fire" bit sounds like someone saying something they heard and so on an so forth...
  3. I second the "Thanks for your concern". No point in going all-crazy-Mormon on her, it will just confirm her beliefs. And end the conversation there. I highly doubt she'll do much more at the risk of upsetting the friendship relationships.
  4. I think that we can tend to accept the whole "life is not perfect, trials will come" lessons with an agreeing nod but not really internalize the meaning. Then trials come. We might not necessarily respond with "God hates me" but there's still "Blessings aren't necessarily contingent with my actions"; "The Bishop, being an imperfect man, gave me the wrong advice"; "I can't do anything about trials."
  5. Much agreed. Somebody is painting a nude model--and the intention of this project is to instruct someone in how to draw the human form. I can't help it if there's a pervert in the class.
  6. Food is for the weak!!!
  7. But I've also heard that the classic 50% all-across-the-board divorce rate is full of errors...
  8. Could the extreme couponing ever be filed under an addiction?
  9. I've recently read Daniel and if I remember correctly this book did mention it. Though I wouldn't deny that Revelations possibly says the same thing.
  10. I"m wondering what they did to the Les Mis production that made it worse. I know people who will see the edited high school productions, not realizing it's been edited, then freak out when they see the original. So was anything actually added or was it just the original?
  11. Go to ldsinbox.com. It's with the whole Windows and hotmail bit so if you don't like that style be warned.
  12. I have to say I hate the idea that we will all be exactly the same, no differences whatsoever. I hate the idea that I will lose my particular personality. I hate the idea that I have no value as I am. You seem to be suggesting we are all going to be personality-void clones. EDIT: I just read that it sounds bitter. I just think there is a difference between everyone being exactly the same and I don't think a lack of differences in physicality (I still don't see this happening) will mean we can't all be the same in God.
  13. Do you know anything of old vs new doctrine?
  14. I'd like to see the source of this doctrine...
  15. I've never really agreed with the spend-hours-searching-on-a-so-so-site-search-engine-to-find-your-answer philosophy. It's so much easier and faster to ask a question.
  16. ... I suppose I looked at this thread as what would my thoughts be if I weren't Mormon. Which I understand really wasn't the question, but it's how my mind responded to it.
  17. Welcome! I've played the piano for twenty years and while I'm pretty darn good at that I am actually tone-deaf. That's my music. I rather like the idea of atheism. I had an atheist once ask me why if I like it I don't just become one. Well, I happen to believe in a higher power and I'm sure I would no matter what. But I do very much support the idea of living life to the fullest and being a good person and whatnot for completely altruistic reasons.
  18. Maybe it's not always being dishonest, but it can be out of "moderation in all things". In general, I admire the coupon experts and how they are able to stock up on necessities. But after extreme incidents and watching shows like "Hoarders" I see all these generally good qualities taken to extremes and abused. Reusing useful things--good. Continually taking them in--not. Storing up on food--good. Buying food constantly and letting it rot/go bad before you can eat it--not. Coupons--good. Stocking up on things you will never need--bad.
  19. The question of kids/no kids is a very big deal in a marriage. On your side, you went into this marriage with the expectations that there would be kids someday. I would dare argue you have been cheated. On her side, it's her body and she should not be forced to have kids. Personally, I think her reasons are selfish, but they are her feelings. What it boils down to is if she is adamant about no kids, can you live with that?
  20. Clearly they won't be getting animal fats on a vegan diet, buts are plentiful in other foods. As for calcium... eat lots of dark greens and you are good to go.
  21. Well-said. I believe anyone with reasonable skills and thought processes could take any doctrine of any church and find a few oddities with it. But while I do agree with you that doctrine is important, doctrine is nothing without belief and faith in God. That's what is ultimately important.
  22. Not entirely crazy. The same philosophy works in other areas.
  23. Not to derail, but it's a similar thing that drives people from the Church. So-n-so leaves the Church because of some various doctrinal/historical detail that doesn't bother at all the next so-n-so. You are going to be very hard-pressed to find conclusive evidence that bothers and convinces 100%. But this thread is entirely theoretical...
  24. A calander. Mark off days where nothing happens, give myself little rewards at increasing levels.
