  1. I'm not sure where to post this. I've heard from several men lately say there's very few prospects because women have let themselves go. What does this mean exactly, too much weight gain, not enough make-up, sloppy clothes? I'm just curious.
  2. I'd say trust your gut, don't allow your children to be alone with the in-laws.
  3. I agree with the other poster that said just set a good example for him. When he wants to watch movies you don't like then ask him to at least turn down the volume and go to another room and do something else. If this behavior started after you got married then maybe seeing a marriage counselor might help, maybe a counselor can help you guys communicate better and find out why he's all of a sudden acting this way.
  4. I agree, if you have severe depression, medication is probably going to help you more than support from a Bishop or family members. You also need to talk with the Bishop about your feelings about the calling you have. I don't think a Bishop is going to make you remain in that calling if it is causing physiological or physical harm to you. It does not mean you are a failure because you can't uphold your calling, it certainly does not prevent you from entering into the Celestial Kingdom. Like others have said, if you are having these feelings you need to get help right away! Going inactive is not going to solve your problems, if anything it will make the depression worse because you will feel like a bigger failure for not being active in a Gospel that you know to be the truth, if indeed you feel that way.
  5. That's a good article. I tried extreme couponing for a couple of months and wasn't very successful. There are some items I got really cheap, but I discovered I was buying stuff I never would have used before and then having to pay for stuff I really needed on top of what I didn't need. I didn't think I was saving that much money, I never bought $100 worth of groceries and only paid $2.00 for them. I was spending all of my extra time, of which I don't have a lot of, finding sales and collecting coupons. It's just not worth it to me. I do still clip coupons but I make my grocery list out first and then gather any coupons I might have for the items on my list. If I do see an item I normally use on sale and I have a coupon for it I might go a head and buy it even if I didn't need it right away.
  6. I wasn't bashing any church. I get more "your going to hell" or "I'll pray for you" comments from Baptists. I'm sure they are not all like that, but a lot of them are.
  7. The Southern Baptists are the worst. One of the largest Baptist churches in Memphis supposedly had one of the largest anti-Mormon libraries in the area. The missionaries were told not to wear their badges if they ever got invited to visit the large church. While I lived there I was told several times I was going to hell for being Mormon.
  8. Elder(?) Huntsman came to Nashville a couple of years ago and spoke to the Singles. I don't remember word for word what he said but what I got out of part of his talk was that we are NOT Christians in the sense that we do not believe in the Trinity nor do we follow the Nicene Creed and that we should start distinguishing ourselves as being members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Yes, we do believe in Jesus Christ and that He Atoned for our sins, but there are a lot of significant differences between our Gospel Doctrines and the doctrines of the Christian church. Somehow we think it is shameful not to call ourselves Christians, but if you really look at the doctrines, I don't see how we can consider ourselves just another Christian denomination.
  9. Does the ASUS feel very heavy to you? That was the only concern I had with buying the ASUS over the Galaxy.
  10. Sweet, I ordered the Transformer yesterday. Hopefully I get it sometime next week.
  11. Someone in another post mentioned they didn't see the need to have a year's supply of food storage, so I was commenting on that. Just because some people on the show have a stock pile of stuff doesn't mean they are hoarders. It's a 30 minute show, so how do you know that person is not using the products? I have 4 bottles of Dial body wash that I got for $1 each because the store was having a BOGO sale and I had a $1.00 off coupon. I've never used body wash before, but I use it now. I may not continue using it after I run out, but I did try the product. I'm willing to bet the manufacturer's mark up their products so much that they don't loose much profit from people using coupons. If they did, they would quit sending out coupons.
  12. I have two relatives that have been long since dead that had committed murder. I think I submitted their names to the Temple. Are they not supposed to have their Temple work done? These murders happened back in the 1950s I think, maybe earlier than that.
  13. It's only dishonest if you try to break the coupon rules of each store. A lot of stores are changing the rules and making it harder to use multiple coupons. Some stores are putting a limit on the number of coupons you can use per visit or they won't let you use a store coupon and a manufacturer's coupon on the same item. It is unfortunate for those of us who don't do extreme couponing. If the person is throwing away food because they don't use it by the expiration date, that's a lot of waste, which is not good. A lot of those people on that show seem to donate what they get to local food banks which is good of them. The church has always encouraged us to have a year's supply of food and other necessities. I used to wonder why we would need that much, but after the economy that we have been going through I can see the usefulness of a year's supply. There have been so many people losing their jobs and not being able to find work for 6 months or more. If you have a year's supply of food then you are at least able to spend what little money you may have on other necessities like shelter, utilities, and transportation.
  14. You hit the nail on the head. When all of these programs were established, the government didn't think very far ahead, and no one could have predicted the baby boom. I'm not so sure the government intended all of these programs to be permanent. It's time to reform these programs (welfare, SS) to make them more efficient.
  15. I agree with everyone else, don't worry about what the members might think, you never know who might be holding a dark secret. Your sins are obviously a little more visible, but no one can change the past, you can only press on to the future.
  16. I agree with Apple, counseling might be beneficial, especially if the adults can all meet together and have a moderator for the discussion. Your son is at the age of rebellion and his father is encouraging the behavior. I'm not so sure decreasing the time spent with his dad is going to help, it might make it worse. Your son may act out even more because he thinks you are taking his father away from him.
  17. Is it an actual sin to buy a lottery ticket? I always thought the reason we shouldn't gamble is because 1) You will most likely have better use for that $1 than buying a piece of paper, and 2) Some people become addicted and dig themselves into a hole that they can't get out of. I don't think what happened to you is something you have to go to the Bishop about. If you win something you might have to explain how that happened, haha.
  18. I'm going to also say it depends on the situation and the intent of the murderer. A Prosecutor can try to prove intent, but since we are human we can not look upon the heart of the offender and know what his/her intent was.
  19. I like Pawn Stars and American Pickers, it's interesting to see the stuff they buy or is brought into the store. The guys on American Pickers sell stuff to collectors and interior decorators. There's a lot of restaurants that buy that kind of stuff for decoration (Applebees, Cracker Barrel, Zaxby's). I seem to remember Rick on Pawn Stars saying they dealt in a higher percentage of pawns than sold items, but how interesting would it be to always see people bringing in stuff for pawn? Chumlee is not a family member, he's Corey's friend. He's probably there just to make the show more interesting.
  20. About a year or two ago I went around to my older relatives and asked them if I could scan any old pictures they had of the family. I know when they start dying I will no longer have the opportunity to ever see those pictures again. I compiled all of the pictures on a disc and put together a family book with dates and short histories, as much as I knew about them. I made copies for all of my aunt and uncles so they now have copies of all of that stuff. Within our family there has been cases where one person ends up getting all of the pictures and mementos and never shares them with anyone else, which is unfortunate. As far as money is concerned, I guess the living does look at it as "how much did you love me", even though it shouldn't be considered as such.
  21. The cost of a higher education is getting ridiculous in this country and it keeps going up every year. I think we should go back to the days of apprentices, you "work" for someone for a year or two learning the trade without being paid. This probably wouldn't work in the medical field, but it could work in other fields. Does anyone have any suggestions for good books about investing money? I have several of Dave Ramsey's books. I don't want to get into real estate, so I'm not interested in that kind of investing. I will check out freecycle.com.
  22. I agree, I don't think this is something to get bent out of shape about. I've never heard the church make an official stance on what color Adam and Eve's skin was.
  23. It would probably smart on my part to just keep dumping money into my emergency fund before I buy any big ticket items. I'm just impatient. Skippy, your right, if we were able to earn a good interest rate on our savings more people would probably be saving money. I have a Money Market account where I keep my emergency fund, but it only earns maybe 1.3% annually.
  24. haha, mostly just the shirts since I was not well endowed.
  25. I live in Middle Tennessee. How did you like the mission?
