  1. A visit to the Hooter's website was enough to make my decision. If I ever went to a restaurant and all of the waitresses were required to wear *those* uniforms... how can you defend that place? I just don't understand.
  2. Holidays in general are pretty darn awesome, how does one choose just one to love? I'd have to pick Halloween or Christmas, probably because they get the most hooplah.
  3. It's actually a very valid question! There are many e-readers all with their various formats. Now if you have a general tablet running iOS or Android you can download the Gospel Library app, which is great for reading scriptures, plus it has magazine articles and general conference talks. I have a kindle fire 2, which runs android and can run the Gospel Library app. But if it's just a straight e-reader (like I believe the paperweight is) then you can download the mobi file (kindles preferred format for books) from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints click Scriptures->Formats and Downloads. You can download the entire standard works in pdf, ePub, or mobi format. I use an application called calibre to convert and transfer books to my kindle. I rather love using an e-reader, the one drawback is you can't put your books on the shelf to impress your friends
  4. That wasn't a 2013 change, my copy printed in 2008, it is the 1981 edition I believe. It doesn't have the word 'may' in that verse either. I do notice almost all changes to the Book of Mormon that I know of, have been to restore it to be consistent with discovered original manuscripts or subsequent errors found by Joseph Smith (Like in the 1840 edition). I wonder if the 'may' in question is one of those. edit: A quick google search reveals we do have original manuscripts for that verse.
  5. I agree. There are accounts in scripture of God shedding tears for us. We will probably still be subject to the same emotions and worries we can be subject to here.
  6. Aww come one guys, nothing wrong with a nice pair of hooters (sorry I've been resisting it this entire thread)
  7. I think that's a much more technical description of "doesn't really go bad" because it generally doesn't much affect a males reproductive viability later in age, and it doesn't really increase the risk of birth defects.
  8. For what's it worth, the swimmers don't really go bad with age, only eggs do. (biology is so sexist)
  9. Decide how you are going to pay your tithing, pray and ask the lord if it is correct. Listen for the spirit. Remember tithing is a sacrifice you make, so make sacrifices if need be to pay it. I liked the "A sacrifice and a Privilege" section of this talk given by President Howard W. Hunter. Our Law of Tithing - Ensign Mar. 2013 - ensign
  10. I have looked at one corner of my chair. There was no coin there. I currently have no evidence that there is a coin on my chair. Do I then have evidence that there are no coins on my chair? Is my belief that there are no coins on my chair based on evidence? Would I be justified in mocking someone who said it's plausible that there is a coin on the chair?
  11. You are forgiven, just don't try to play it off as an evidence based belief.
  12. Immaturity of excavation in the new world. Lack of evidence is not evidence regardless. We are still putting together things found in the old world and it's been studied much, much, much longer than the new world has.
  13. A point to consider is that was religion the root cause of those things or was it a convenient means to an end used by people? Take away religion, do you really think you will have saved lives? Would one less cause to rally around have had that great of an impact? You could just as soon rail against nationalism, how many lives has that claimed? How many has it saved? How many lives do you suppose religious beliefs have saved? How much of the above (crusades, inquisition) were perhaps more politically motivated than religiously? I think it takes a very shallow look at history to claim that "religion has killed all of these people"
  14. Anyone who has felt the Spirit of God, myself included, would tell you he is definitely not ignoring our calls. Some children are too busy with their distractions to hear their parents calls. Some children are so sure that they are correct, that they ignore their parents advice. The reasons children don't hear their parents vary but we adults do the same thing to our Father in heaven far to often Sometimes I see my child stumble, ignore my advice, or not even hear me when he's caught up in excitement and I think "Wow, God is watching me do the same thing, how often do I not heed his voice? How often do I set out on my determined course knowing full well what advice He has given me?" Those moments cause me a great amount of introspection. While He might not actually be physically there yelling at me not to climb up on the spiritual "Hot stove" I can often look back and realize I knew exactly what I was doing, and I knew God didn't want me doing it. Those are just my rough thoughts on the analogy.
  15. I've honestly never considered it to be symbolic, it's certainly something to put under the seat and think about it. I appreciated that post bytebear.
  16. One has to consider that the Church is the very entity preserving the vast majority of this history, detailed history just isn't one of our Sunday classes, doctrine is.
  17. The moral of the story? If you are going to be an idiot, don't videotape it and share it with the world.
  18. *drunk* is a noun that describes a person who tends to drink a lot, adding "person" after it is redundant. I don't know many foxes or bears with alcohol problems, and if you are describing one, then might be the time to insist on adding "bear" so that it is read "a drunk bear". I'm sorry I just can't let that one go.
  19. Why wouldn't they? I've had fun doing service plenty of times, we joked, we laughed, we had fun while doing it. The fact that they stated that prior to any controversy makes me think they saw a big rock about to fall, thought it would be fun to push over and thought it was just as well in case it fell on someone on it's own. Did they truly believe that? Maybe. Was it an over exaggeration joke? Maybe. What it wasn't was a veiled lie to get themselves out of trouble since it came before there was any known controversy. edit: Should they be punished? Yes. I'm not excusing them, just giving my counter perspective.
  20. I believe they may have actually believed their own excuse to push it over. Perhaps I am naive. Still idiots though.
  21. I've seen a lot of surmising that the right wing is headed for a split, which I believe would knock us out of power for a good while.
  22. I nominate, "When the house, the senate and the veto man all refuse to negotiate" as an answer.
  23. I can very nearly guarantee you that you are friends with someone who struggles with pornography addiction, they just haven't revealed it to you. I'll even wager you are friends with some one who struggles with a prescription drug problem.
  24. +1, although I wouldn't be freaking out, if I were I'd sink money into assets or precious metals.
