Question about inactivity and garments
jerome1232 replied to CertifiableGranny's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
You can buy them without having a temple recommend. -
I really enjoyed it. I actually found the part where she shows the difference between wild crops and the domesticated versions really interesting. I had no idea they were actually that different.

I tried to warn you it wasn't gunna go onto an XP era machine Happy computing. Most software you'll ever need can be found within Ubuntu's repositories, (X/L/Whatever-ubuntu all share the same repositories and have access to the same set of software) just open the Software Center to search and browse it. Google is a good ally when trying to figure out what it is you need. Search for (just an example) "Linux alternative to Microsoft Office" to find good software suggestions.

I don't think opposition has dropped at all. It's just changed with the way our world works. Instead of ousting groups with nooses, guns, and tar, we use signs, shaming, and ostracizing these days is all. We have groups from within our own ranks protesting at our conferences. I guess I don't share your observation that it is quiet.

I prefer it in written form, usually an electronic format. It's easier for me to pick apart the bias that way, it's also easier for me to separate the fact from spin as well usually.

Mormon Porn Use Maybe Not As High as Previously Reported
jerome1232 replied to Just_A_Guy's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Looks like a heck-of-a-lot more thought out study. I never did take the original at face value, it had problems. It's comforting to know that the gospels message appears to be being heeded, or at least there is effort to heed it. -
I wonder if I'll get a new job soon. I wonder how nice not working 12 hour night shifts will be. I wonder what's it's like to attend church in a not exhausted to the point of scowling at everybody state lol.

I wonder what is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

If I was writing c but that was bash I did write it wrong anyways it's actually more like: if [ (horrible) ] then make unhorrible fi ah well it's been a very long time since I've done anything with bash

I agree, the site is coming up to full functionality rather nicely. I'm happy to be able to use the "full version" theme now

Are you aware you can simply download the ISO file and burn it to disk for free (other than the cost of having internet and a cd/dvd-r to burn it with)
-
It would be like using a bottle with holes drilled into it, and relying on paper to stuff into the holes as they are found and saying the bottle holds water just fine. It's a bad analogy because really the holes are there to begin with, the water just keeps finding new ones, you have to keep plugging them with something that's not well suited to hole plugging and generally you can't plug it until the hole is found.

If the ram is under 1 gB, then yes, Ubuntu is much too fat for it, Xubuntu or Lubuntu would be the ticket. I'm kinda thinking your machine doesn't have enough ram and it's swapping forever trying to shove programs into ram and that's why it appears that they are not opening. Without know your computers stats it's hard to say though. You can press ctrl+alt+F1 to get to a tty (a pure cli or command line interface) login and type free -mto get a readout of your ram status in mB's edit: hindsight, ctrl+alt+F7 get's you back out of the tty.

I still miss the old artwork. You need a bash script to unhorriblify things. if (horrible) make unhorrible fi

Did you install regular Ubuntu or one of it's derivatives. What were the specs on this machine exactly? (namely cpu, and ram info)
-
Pop the cd in and click continue several times! Unless you have really limited disk space I would keep XP around just in case. It's been awhile since I've seen Ubuntu's installer but it should pick up the XP install and offer to do a side by side, or dual boot installation. Psychocat has great guides for new comers, here is her guide to installing: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/installing The process shouldn't defer at all other than how the window looks between the versions I have mentioned. For stable installs that don't change, go with the LTS (Long Term Support) release, 12.04 is the newest LTS release (that's the year followed by month of release, 2012 04) LTS releases are supported for 3 years, a new one is released every 2 years, so 14.04 is due out anytime now and it will be a LTS release. The newest non-LTS-release is 13.10, a new version is released every 6 months, one in april one in october. I tend to stick with LTS releases, and sometimes update to the april release because I get tempted by shiny new features and such.

Totally unbiased open source advocate here voting for option number 2 . But on an old XP machine I wouldn't recommend Ubuntu. Perhaps Lubuntu or Xubuntu. These are both Ubuntu under the hood but use a lighter desktop environment (think of that as the look and feel of the operating system) to run better on low spec machines. Lubuntu uses LXDE, Xubuntu uses XFCE, and Ubuntu uses Unity. They all have vastly different looks and different suites of default applications. The learning curve of learning a new operating system is admittedly steep and will probably be frustrating at first, Ubuntu has a dang good community at their forums for helping with that transition. Xubuntu: http://xubuntu.org/ (I would recomend the most) Lubuntu: http://lubuntu.net/ (Super light, but not as purty as Xubuntu)

I've always leaned to a limited flood. I know scholars believe humans have undergone a pretty severe genetic bottleneck somewhere between 60,000 to 70,000 years ago. I know cultures across the world which have had no contact with each other have flood traditions, it's extreme commonality is worthy of note. I understand the hebrew word that was translated into earth could probably have been translated as land. I don't know how spread out humanity was 60,000 to 70,000 years ago, could a catastrophic flood be the sole reason we were almost wiped out? I don't know. Doesn't that date precede any known civilization? I have heard other hominid species disappear abruptly from the fossil record, does that disappearance happen about the same time as our bottleneck? I don't know. I feel that a limited flood early in human history nearly wiping us out and that the story was passed on orally so that many cultures retained the story is extremely plausible.

Bottom of the page. All the way down there. A little to the left there is a tiny change theme button.

With old forums theme, I knew I was in mormon land. With the new "full version" theme, it's very nice, consistent with the rest of the site, and at least has a lds.net header at the top. Heck for me it really just lacks one feature, showing me all new threads I haven't viewed. This ip.boards theme, while it's got all the buttons one would need for their daily foruming, it just looks like the generic theme, it has no custom lds.net logo's anywhere, no artwork, etc....
-
As functional is this IP.Boards theme is, it's also quite plain and generic. Are there plans to eventually lds.netify it? (or base a more lds.net looking theme off of it)

I'm really curious as to where that is stated, I have never heard anything like that before. I have never come upon that in my studies either.

They replaced it, there is a new wooden roller coaster, originally \"Terminator Salvation\" but then rethemed to \"Apocalypse\" due to licensing stuff. It\'s actually one of my favorite rides. My step-dad took me on Cyclone when I was young, I didn\'t ride another coaster \'till I was 12 because it scared the bejeebers out of me. We have season passes so we usually take the kids and hang out in looney toon land all day, but this one is a big rides for mommy and daddy day.

\\\'bout to drop off the kids and ride some death defying roller coasters, Hopefully the 5 is clear, and the lines are short!
