  1. Absolutely..... This might help a little: THE ARTICLES OF FAITH OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS 1 We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. 2 We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression. 3 We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel. 4 We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost. 5 We believe that a man must be acalled of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof. 6 We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth. 7 We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth. 8 We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God. 9 We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God. 10 We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal gglory. 11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own cconscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may. 12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law. 13 We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things. Joseph Smith Or...you can go here to learn more...... LDS.org
  2. Actually, the apartment the Lords Prophet lives in is actually very humble and small and whether or not he's allowed to have a pet is of no consequence as he is always away on church business and is hardly there anyway. Or do you think it would be okay to leave a dog or cat cooped up for days without companionship? Or perhaps the church could pay someone to look after his pet and feed it and play with it? PS: I've had pets all my life as most of the families in my ward....so, tell me, where is it that you get your information?
  3. Blessed....the problem started in 2000 when NcMurray had the named changed to Community of Christ to attract more fundamental Christians and to become a part of a system of Christian churches to "share the wealth" as it is. In other words it was done for money to keep the church going. It attracted members who didn't have a problem with Christ, but had a problem with the first vision, Joseph Smith and the BoM....of course the Community of Christ church now downplays all three. There is no "Smith" successor to be the Prophet now which was the reason this part of the church split off in the first place. If you study the history of the restoration from 1820 until the martyrdom of JS......you will find that other than plural marriages the LDS church is still practicing the exact same Gospel, the exact same way with minor exceptions which don't effect our salvation....on the other hand...study the CCoC history and you will see a huge change over the years.....then you have to really ask yourself.....would the Lord change his church this much? I was always taught that he is never changing and the LDS church is the same as when Christ walked the earth....when JS was alive and even now...it hasn't changed.....the RCofJCofLDS or CofC has changed, dramatically to please the people of the world....soon you will see.....the BoM and JS will no longer be spoken of in the CoC churches....if you go to their website you can see very very little reference to it and only then in the history of the church...nothing is mentioned about the BoM or JS in any of the current info on the church. If you believe that JS had the first vision, if you believe the BoM to be true scripture then....I beg you to investigate the LDS church.....The Lord has always been the head of his church...and he never changes any of the requirements for salvation.....think about it!
  4. The gift of tongues and interpretation of such is given for the Lords purposes only....not for our own edification. It is mainly used for teaching his word as in the case of the ancient twelve during Pentecost. If you speak in some unknown language, babbling about nothing, for no reason but your own then it is not of the Lord. If you do this and have no idea what you said....then it is not of the Lord. If it serves no purpose but your own....then it is not of the Lord. If you do it in these cases it is not the spirit of the Lord you are filled with but the spirit of the adversary. The gift is just that....a gift from the Lord so you can do his work. Period. Anything else is not tongues and not from the Lord. As far as praying....I don't think Father cares one way or another what "tongue" you pray in as long as He hears from you!
  5. Yo Jesse James......first of all the term Mormons is a nick name....we are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints...secondly, there is no such thing as Mormonism, following Mormonism, practicing Mormonism etc.. To us the term Mormonism is a derogatory term which depicts a cult.I'll fix your questions for you and answer them very briefly what I can in red: 1 Why did you choose to become a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS and how has your beliefs affected or change your lifestyle? Because I got down on my knees and asked the Lord if the church was true and received a definite answer....my knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ has changed my entire life...I now try and walk in the light of the Lord! 2 What spiritual commandments or ordinances have you practice and how have these bettered your life? I have been baptized, received the gift of the Holy Spirit, Ordained in the Holy Priesthood and continue to be worthy of it and use it everyday to bless my family and others, received my Endowments in the Temple and have been sealed to my wife and family for all time and eternity in the Temple. 3 What are the challenges, if any, to being a member of the LDS church? None....no challenges at all....following the Lord is easy when you have the Spirit with you. 4 What are the important holidays and traditions of the Chrurch of Jesus Christ of LDS? Christmas, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Easter, General Conference, Fast & Testimony meetings, mothers day, fathers day, new years day....lol...... 5 Is there something you would change about the LDS church and if so why? Not a thing.....the Lords church is and orderly church.....and it's his church and none others! 6 How would someone become a member of the LDS church and what challenges would that person have to overcome? To become a member of the Lords church you have to be baptized.....but you have to be worthy and repent first for anything that would make you unworthy....of course you would have to learn the basics of the church through the missionaries and then be interviewed to see if you are ready for Baptism. 7 What are some key historical events that have affected the LDS church today? Hmmmm....the Prophet Joseph Smiths first vision, the coming forth of the Book of Mormon another testament of Jesus Christ, the restoration of the Priesthood keys of Christs church, the Temple of the Lord once again on the Earth, basically the restoration of the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in this final dispensation. 8 What conflicts have the LDS church had with other religions and why? Conflicts? Well, the church and it's members were driven out of Missouri, many murdered and beaten, everything stolen under the guise of a state extermination order all because others feared this new "religon"....and in Illinois the churches Prophet and Patriarch were murdered and the saints were again driven out of their homes and forced out....conflicts? naw, no conflicts. Hatred? naw no hatred....there aren't hundreds of so called Christian churches with websites that spew forth untruths and lies about the LDS faith....nope....no conflicts...we love all the other religons and their members. 9 How has the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints help their fellow believers that are dealing with traumatic events? Helped? You mean service...as in service to our fellow man? Well, we wholeheartedly embrace service and not only to members but everyone....we all try to follow in the Lords footsteps....and love our neighbor. 10 What modern changes have taken place in the LDS church and why? Modern changes......none that I can think of that change the doctrine of the Lords church....no, it's the same now as when it was formed....we believe: 1 We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. 5 We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof. 10 We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory. 11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may. Joseph Smith Want more info? Go here: http://www.mormon.org/welcome/0,6929,403-1,00.html
  6. And this is why I am so glad for the restoration of the Lord's church and that fact that Heaven is not closed to us....that the Lord is still guiding his children in this day with a Prophet! Because the Lord is revealing truths to us line upon line, precept upon precept as we understand and grow.....for our time....not 20 centuries ago!
  7. It was worse.......as the real suffering he did was in the garden of Gethsemane when he took on the sins of the world! Physical suffering? I doubt it...I think Mel Gibson embellished the torture part of the film because mainline Christians somehow play down the suffering he did spiritually during the atonement in the garden and instead focus on his physical sufferings. ie: crucifixion And that is exactly how the film maker wanted you to react....to experience the physical torture....yes Christ had the power to stop his physical suffering and his spiritual suffering...but he did not as he was doing the will of the Father. One thing you have to remember his crucifixion was not part of the atonement, his physical suffering outside the garden was not part of the atonement....but, He had to be tortured and crucified and he had to die so he could fulfill the rest of his mission...to be resurrecteded! I liked the movie too....although it didn't center around his mission on Earth....it was more about his crucifixion and suffering torture....not much about the atonement or resurrection at all....and I won't let my children see it either. Way, way to violent....not much spiritual.
  8. Chris.....Having the restored Priesthood and being worthy to hold it to work the affairs of the Kingdom here on earth is a wonderful thing. At times we all feel unworthy to even be members of the church....we are all sinners, we all make mistakes....therein comes Christ's Atonement....so we can be forgiven of our unrighteous acts. Your Bishop has the gift of discernment wherein he can, through the Priesthood know if you are worthy. Follow his council and when the time comes you will be given the higher Priesthood in the order of Melchezadik. You will become an Elder in the church. Remember the Priesthood of God will only work to directly benefit others and not yourself....it can only be used for the Lords purposes. The next time you attend an Elders Quorum session just look around at the others there....they are all just like you...Saints trying to perfect themselves, but perfection will not come to anyone in their lifetime...and again this is the reason for the atonement of Christ which is the greatest event in the history of the world. May God bless you on your journey in the Kingdom!

  10. Personally I have no problem if the A.A. community wants to celebrate this made up holiday....if it makes them feel better about who they are and where they came from then good.....I do however have a problem when a white person who's roots are in South Africa tries to celebrate the holiday and they are dissed by the A.A. comunity because they are not black....this happened a few years ago to someone I worked with. Let's be honest...this is not an A.A. holiday....it's a black holiday by blacks and for blacks....but I have no problem with it at all....as I said if it makes them feel better then go for it. Now.....what do you suppose would happen if a large group of white Americans decided to start a holiday celebrating white Euorpean heritage....? Or perhaps if a group of white students formed a white heritage club at school?.....Or maybe some folks got together and started a white heritage month? What would happen to a bunch of kids who proclaimed they were white and proud? See where I'm going with this? Color seperates the world and until the blacks, whites, yellows and browns stop seeing each other in color and start seeing each other as the brothers and sisters they really are this will never change. All the different color Americans will continue to try and seperate themselves by fabricating clubs and holidays and religons and the list goes on.....somewhere along the line this has got to stop....probably not until the Masters return when all will be united and all tongues will confess and all knees will bow to Him!
  11. Well Dan....I think I can answer your question pretty simply....Jesus was perfect.....everyone else is not. Although every LDS parent wishes their son or daughter take an LDS spouse....some don't and it can be rather disappointing. However, as you stated the Saints are to try and always be Christlike.....something that is sometimes difficult to do for anybody......forgive your in-laws and try to understand. As far as other members and how we feel? Speaking for myself I would welcome any non-member spouse of a member with open arms because if the member married them they must have a good side right? I married a non member and six years later we were sealed in the Temple. And no, I have never seen a non member shunned....ever. I could be that your in-laws think like a lot of in-laws do,........you are just not good enough for their daughter, LDS or not. I'm sure none of this helped but...what they hay.....I just love you non-members...peace out brother!
  12. He even has a difficult time choosing his favorite Captain, Picard or Kirk . As a Trekkie myself, who does like both, it is an extremely "white and nerdy" predicament! M. Tommock and Julaud at Tennagua...his arms wide!

  14. After an unsuccessful suicide attempt by breathing in fumes from the Mack Truck's exhaust pipe, as shown in this photo, paramedics transported Jimmy to Mercy Hospital where he will be treated for extreme "Exhaustion"!
  15. Which makes me want to relate the story of my wifes first calling.....She was called to be the Relief Society music chorister...(she selects the hymns and leads the members in sing them). When she first got the calling she was a nervous wreck, she had sleepless nights worrying about what it...she knew none of the hymns, she had no musical education, she felt she couldn't even sing well....but she magnified her calling by forging ahead, learning the basics of leading music and practiced singing the hymns before each Sunday.....in no time it became second nature to her and after a year and a half when she was released she was in tears because she loved her calling....but she went on to something new and has magnified that calling too. You are correct in stating that the Lord qualifies the called. My first calling in the church was a doosy....I was call as a stake missionary (they used to have those). I had no idea what I was doing...I was new to the church, didn't know much and had to commit to 10 hours a week with the full time missionaries and setting up splits appointments with the ward mission leader and ward members. I had no clue.....but with some hard work it all paid off, not so much for the stake but for me....it helped me to learn about the Gospel and it increased my testimony 100 fold. No calling is more important to the Lord than the calling which you hold. He knows your heart, he knows that you can sucessfully complete your calling.

  17. OKay i swore to myself i would not return to this forum but gosh darn it one boring night and a little sneak peek at this subject got my blood boiling. first of all I am completely insulted by the fact that YOU brother Darsy are calling legal citizens ALIENS which they are not they are citizens that just points out your ignorance as a human being who thinks that you have to be born in the country to become a full blooded citizen. Now I the first to admit that i am a total jerk and say the first thing that comes to my head as far as matters that i believe strick the very heart of me so if anyone wants to bash my ideas feel free to since frankly i dont really care :)Secondly I dont know what the big deal is with Americans and the whole english being number one and have to shove it in everyones face. NOw i have always seen americans to be kinda ignorant towards the idea of integrating culture with in the country, keep in mind i living in california. now as a kid who grew up in canada we have never seen the problem of incorporating different languages or culture together not so much in that we had to or were thinking of making english a primary language. Now i seriously think that the foundation of the USA somewhere got lost and it is no longer the same country that stands for truth justice and all people equal under God. IT is the very perspective of most americans as far as culture and diversity goes that is the very reason why the country is thriving so much on prejudice and racism. I mean for crying out load Boston university is offering scholorships to one white people...and arabs who get on plans are atomatically labeled tourists cause the color of there skin. Mexicans who are legal in the country and born here are being called illegals and being shout at to go back to where they came from. I mean this is rediculous, I agree that something should be done to patrol the border of both canada and mexico but for crying out loud to all the ignorant bastards out there who are prejudice and believe they hold a high standing over another person get a friggin life. I cant tell you how many fist fights i wanted to get into when someone bashed a racial slur at me so to those thinking about any negative tone towards your neighbor i say take that though and shuff it up your *&*&*&*. Ahhhh...please show me where in my post I was calling legal citizens of the U.S. aliens? If you read my post again I am sure you will see as everyone else does I am referring to illegal aliens or people from other countries who are in the U.S. illegally. You said....."that just points out your ignorance as a human being who thinks that you have to be born in the country to become a full blooded citizen." I am confused here...please tell me where in my post I said anything of the sort? I specifically said "I'm NOT talking about the legal aliens, the legitimate green card holders". Please if you are going to call me ignorant, please have a reason. Then you said,"Secondly I don't know what the big deal is with Americans and the whole english being number one and have to shove it in everyones face." Who is shoving anything in anyones face...all I said was my son was in a school that had to teach in Spanish and English because of all the Mexican children of illegals in the class....it was confusing to my 5 year old who doesn't speak Spanish so I had to move him to a different school....Because the majority (approx. 280 million) of people in this nation speak English, because this nation is basically English speaking it is number one regardless of what you think...if you are going to come here legally or illegally...for goodness sake learn the language! As far as Canada goes....it's about 60/40 English/French....of course Canada wouldn't make one language official...but here in the U.S. it more like 99/1 English/Spanish.....so tell me why should the 99 foot the bill for the 1 when the 1 won't even try to learn the language? I certianly hope you were not calling me a racist ignorant ###### just because I'm tired of footing the bill for illegal aliens from Mexico....But you are right about one thing....I am an American who holds a high standing over someone who breaks the law regardless if you condone it or not! My God bless America and anyone who enters the country legally! Everyone else can stay the heck out!
  18. Hi GB....I hope I can answer your question for you....first of all, yes, in the Temple recommend interview the Bishop will specifically ask if you pay a full and honest tithe....if you can't honestly say you do then it will be hard to receive a recommend at that time. But the Bishop will help you become worthy in any area you need counseling for. President Gordon B. Hinkley in a conference talk once said (Pay a full and honest tithe to the Lords kingdom.....pay your tithe first and if you are in need of food, etc. after you pay your tithe you are to go and see your Bishop because it is his responsibility to help you.) Not in those exact words....but it is true...the Lord wants you to be self sufficient....he also wants to open the windows of Heaven and pour out blessings upon you and your family for paying a full and honest tithe. I bare my testimony on this fact....it was extremely difficult at first to pay a full tithe...I had to juggle bills and set other aside....I had to go to the Bishop and ask for help and recieved food from the Bishops storehouse a couple of times....I was waiting to see if the Lord would keep his promise, just as I was ready give up....he did just that...the Heavens opened and the blessings came...too numerous to mention, some spiritual, some financial, many for my wife and children and many for me. I will always pay a full tithe no matter what because I know the Lord will bless me and take care of my family. This is say in the beloved name of our Lord and Savior, even Jesus Christ...Amen GB...trust the Lord, and test the Lord...he wants you to....have faith, talk to your Bishop and he will help....I guarantee it! Here's just one of many tithing miracles I have found..... Elder Lynn Robbins of the Seventy tells this story of a stake president from Panama. As a young man recently returned from his mission, he found the girl he wanted to marry. They were happy, but very poor. Then came a particularly difficult time when their food and money ran out. It was a Saturday, and the cupboard was literally bare. Rene felt distraught that his young wife was hungry. He decided he had no other choice than to use their tithing money and go purchase food. As he was leaving the house, his wife stopped him and asked him where he was going. He told her he was going to buy food. She asked him where he got the money. He told her that it was the tithing money. She said, “That is the Lord’s money—you will not use that to buy food.” Her faith was stronger than his. He put the money back, and they went to bed hungry that night. The next morning they had no breakfast, and they went to church fasting. Rene gave the tithing money to the bishop, but he was too proud to tell the bishop that they were in need. After the meetings he and his wife left the chapel and started to walk home. They hadn’t gone very far when a new member called to them from his house. This man was a fisherman and told them he had more fish than he could use. He wrapped five little fish in a newspaper for them, and they thanked him. As they continued to walk home, they were stopped by another member who gave them tortillas; then someone else stopped them and gave them rice; another member saw them and gave them beans. When they arrived home, they had enough food for two weeks. They were even more surprised when they unwrapped the package of fish and found two very large fish and not the five smaller ones they thought they had seen. They cut the fish in portions and stored it in their neighbor’s freezer. They have repeatedly testified that never since then have they gone hungry. Good luck my friend....
  19. Now you got me started! I live in a town that is 30% Hispanic....of those it is estimated that 60% are here illegally, that's around 3000 people.....trust me when I say that illegal aliens from Mexico don't care one iota about the laws here in the U.S.. They drive without licenses and insurance which means you pray you don't get into an accident with them, they know they can commit petty crimes, cheat the welfare system etc. because if they are caught they just get deported and they re-enter the U.S. again. Most use fake names and stolen SS numbers to obtain jobs. It is not uncommon for 3 families to live in one house and all collect welfare. They have numerous children who are considered U.S. citizens and therefore receive welfare all the while their parents are working under the childs SS number. Our local elementary schools have to teach in Spanish AND English which was a huge disability for my 5 year old...so bad in fact I switched him to a different school district and drive him 15 miles to and from school everyday. They get free medical, dental, education, job training, low cost housing, they get free child care with the Head Start program and we have to train and hire b-lingual people to work in the welfare offices....and guess who is footing the bill for all this? The U.S. citizen! You and me....heck I'm a U.S. citizen and I can't afford medical and dental for my family or free child care...I can't get it free like they can because I won't lie about who I am like they do. Don't get me wrong....I'm NOT talking about the legal aliens, the legitimate green card holders....these are illegal aliens....they are breaking the U.S. immigration law not to mention many other U.S. laws, but they don't care because they will never be locked up, just deported.....and the Democrats are talking about amnesty for illegals again? I say round them up, deport them all and build a huge wall from Southern California to Texas!
  20. Gospel Doctrine teachers.....
  21. Drinking alcohol is a choice.....and if you remember....it's all an acquired taste....when you had a taste of your first beer I bet you thought it was nasty...same for wine and the harder liquors.....that taste doesn't change just because you get older...it changes because you become accustomed to it....which means you are drinking it more and more...after a while the taste doesn't matter but the high does so you'll drink anything with alcohol in it...the cheap beers, the crappy wines and the harder drinks. The Lord didn't make alcohol taste bad for nothing....it was to warn us and help us make the correct choice. Unfortunately with peer pressure from our friends when we are young we do make the wrong choices and try that first beer, nasty as it was we try another because our friends are telling us to...and another, and another until we acquire a taste for it.......with some this taste will always be bad but acceptable, with others it starts a lifelong dependency on alcohol. We need to warn our children about alcohol....just because it's legal to purchase and consume doesn't make it right.....let's keep the beers and wines and liquors of this world tasting nasty to our children!
  22. BTW, The married man I am dating.... is my husband of almost 25 years. I believe that even after we have married the love of our life we should still continue to 'date' each other. Just thought maybe I should clear that up. :) Yep...date night...every Friday night...wooo hoooo!
  23. early morning fog.....
  24. 33? Your 33? Your just a kid! Dude, if I was 33 and divorced and had 3 kids I would definitely be hanging out with the 18 to 31 year olds....you might just be really surprised. Here's a secret...when most LDS women reach 26-27 and are not married they start getting desperate....just kidding. I'm just saying don't limit yourself to one certain age group within the church. Take your time, be a father first and a priesthood holder.....keep the faith and the Lord will provide.
  25. Anthony....I understand your struggle.....and I am sorry some here do not....please give them the benefit of the doubt and stick with the forums here and you will see that most here really care about each other.....they are just leery of trolls. I hope you can see how your original post can be misunderstood.....I trust you brother.....
