  1. Sadly some children slip thru the bet it isn't necessarily bad parenting or bad teaching or disability. Studies have shown that if children don't see their parents reading for pleasure (and not everyone likes reading) they wont read as well. I think rather than holding back nurturing programs can be more effective. My friend works as a nurturer and basically what she does is to take children out of class and work with them in small groups giving them what they don't get at home be that telp with home work or fun activites etc. And it works.
  2. My suggestion would be to try and get a balance of activities that will appeal to all - I rarely go to our mid week meetings because to me they are very old lady activities - certainly not things that what to do or learn. My house mate used to be the secretary and everytime she tried to suggest activities she knew would appeal to our age group she was shoot down so eventually gave up. I am not saying make every activity universal as that is unattainable but if you have 2 activities in a row that are very passive try to do something more interactive.
  3. I loved them. I also love the Wendie Edwards series -Millennial Glory which is along the same vain but lots more books
  4. I know what you mean, I guess living in scotland we have a little breathing space as we have 24hrs to get there.
  5. It depends on what country you live in - in the uk civil marriages can only take places where "joe public" can attend. As a result all members have a church service and then go the temple, and in France they have to get married in a registry office, then most choose to have a church service and then a temple sealing.
  6. I am one of those obese people who every one judges - I started gaining weight in my teens as a result of being forced to stay indoors because of violent bullies, knee and back injuries and asthma meds. Despite this I walk the dog for miles every couple of days, I don't drive so walk everywhere, swim, have a spin bike in my home and do aquafit classes - yes people look down their noses at me especially if I am in stocking up on cake decorating or candy making supplies when they are on sale - for use at much and mingles (linger longer) and my friends schools fundraising events. Does my weight affectmy spirituality - no. Infact I feel closer to heavenly father than I did as a slim 14yr old. I love to take the dog out into the countryside and feel that when I do so I am connecting with heavenly father.
