What, that I'm Canadian and the US is a weird and scary place to me?
-
As a Canadian it's bizarre to comprehend someone would complain about that... Though we make fun of our politicans a lot, and generally avoid stuff like that in younger grades (least when I was a kid) The US seems bafflingly crazy to me

every political lies, none of them are honest, all of them are crooks

Opinions about things change when the opinions of people change as well. That's all I said, that's all I meant. I have no idea where you get any of what you are saying. I never said religion should change its stance on marriage-you are just pulling things out of context or out of thin air. I have said some negativities about marriage (in relation to my own life) I don't think churches should change what they believe about marriage And I don't think any other poster here agrees with a great deal of my viewpoints, but I see this back and forth with them as an exchange of ideas and seeing a bit into someone elses world. I enjoy it because, well for the most part, this thread has been a positive exchange. Infact, if I only wanted to talk to people who agreed with me, why would I be here?! It's not a debate if people agree with you. debates are stimulating until someone comes in and flips out at you, twisting your words and slandering you.

I see...what happens after all that, to earth I mean?

I think I'll pick James A. Garfield not sure why everyone back then could grow such awesome beards (or why early Mormons were the best at it)

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that

If any children I had were anything like me, they'd pick the most obscure one

I never said anything about myself wanting or not wanting to get married I never said I didn't believe in God (I do) and I only say marrage is bad for myself, for a variety of reasons (I also dislike going to weddings but more because people have lousy tastes in food and music and that's neither there nor here). All I said was people's beliefs change with the times (eg same sex marriage), that times always change and it seems marriage is changing from what it was. Nothing what I feel personally about the matter, I wasn't even using myself as an example. I have no idea where you got that, or if you just read what you felt like reading and responded accordingly. It was a stimulating debate up to this point
-
I understand, but with the rise of non believers, the times have to change along with it, times always change We evolve our beliefs and ideals, and marriage is evolving beyond its religious origins
-
well they get married anyways, and it works sometimes (like with religious people) so... I assume they make it work somehow I understand that's what you (and many others) believe. What works for you, doesn't work for everyone. Because I am not a traditional Christian or what have you, in your logic, marriage is pointless for me? Please elaborate
-
I think marriage should be split, one for the government side of things and one for the religious side of things me signing a document saying I am married and paying someone some money is far different then if I was married in a church. But would religious marriage be reconized by government? Or would they have to go threw the legality of it? Also seems a lot of religious people dislike the word marriage being used to discribe not only same sex marriages but heterosexual non religious marriages, since, to them, it has really nothing to do with its "intention" (as said, a covenent with God). No God in a marriage with two athiests.
-
So, do you think there's no point for non religious people to get married then?
-
how does it change when there's no religious elements in it?
-
I donno... I still like the NDP's chances
-
That and the Liberals haven't exactly done all that well since Paul Martin if anyone is gonna win it's probably the NDP (with a minority and if they suck, most likely the Conservatives will get back in, I highly doubt the Liberals will pull themselves back up from what befell them in the last election, at least not right away)

and, if it doesn't why is it bad if you aren't married, I mean your body doesn't understand that you didn't sign a piece of paper, does it make one less married if they only went down the legal road and got married in a courthouse, shunning any and all religious aspects? (obviously I understand the religious aspect to it, one should be with whom they are married, but this is more about the science and not the belief) -

yeah I know I don't have to be Kenshiro but... I have some...akwardness, and the like (aspergers is a pain) I mean awkward can be fine, when you can read people, do social things properly and generally understand people. I mean sure, I'd like to comprehend people and perhaps meet like minded sorts but when you're a mad-shut in, you generally don't meet many like you... My meger foray into relationships hasn't given me anything positive to go with, no real desire to continue. Solitude is lonely but easy. -

And that's why a lot of them are there... Not everyone is a winner (I wouldn't call myself an alpha male-that phrase just sounds wrong, nor would I say I am desirable to the opposite sex, what with the social awkwardness, the dolls and my general lack of interest-which I often feel stems from the fact I am generally seen as undesirable, a vicious cycle) I do agree with the whole desensitzation of the act that pornography has on people, but there are losers in this world and the demand is there, and always will be there. -

i meant more of a general harm to one, a non religious view -

no I never said that-all i said was no one would say drugs are good, but there's no one in charge of the whole thing to speak out against that's all (and that speaking out against pornography isn't the same as with drugs) I donno where you got that -

well drugs are illegal, I would assume everyone knows that meth labs are bad, but there is no meth company, no crack company. If you picket against crack, what point is that? Really? And drugs has no hidden darkness, its always darkness, there is no good to crack. pornography is a much greyer area, since not everyone believes it to be evil or bad. Not everyone is on the same page about it, because people have different beliefs and that clashes with one another. People already do complain about the "evils" of pornography, but it would seem they are the minority in that clash (or some feel its not the main issue in society, I donno my feelings on pornography aren't cut and dry, and would take a bunch of writing to explain). -
