  1. Coast Guard? I still like the brand new privates and the brand new butter bars idea.
  2. Ah but you need to be more specific. An Army Special Forces and an Navy Seal. A basic marine infantry as well as a army grunt. Maybe a cook from each one. A brand new officer form each service. A brand new private from each.
  3. I feel that they are here and young right now. Just a personal feeling. Person excommunicated? For what and who said it would be david?
  4. Right on brother.
  5. Remember that "medication" even caffeine can be used as medicinal purposes, just not as a lifestyle. My wife has to have caffeine everyday with her pregnancy or she will pass out (literally) from Low Blood Pressure. She uses it not as a lifestyle but literally as a drug. Your child needs the meds hence it was prescribed. Now if she continued after the preg and had to rely upon it not for medicinal purposes, then that I would guess would be against the WoW.
  6. And then an alter is built and a lamb is brought out... wait, wrong erra, my bad. You get to find out who's who in the ward.
  7. Elder Bednar? Is there a link?
  8. Josie, thats the Elder Mconkie quote.
  9. Elder Mconkie in Mormon Doctrine (I think thats were I read it) said that they will be faithfull followers of the Prophet Joseph Smith and would no doubt be from the 12.
  10. Who taught Adam that language? Not knowing Adamic myself I would be hesitant to compare the two.
  11. Upon the first meeting the Prophet Joseph Smith had with Brigham Young, BY was asked to speak. He spoke in tounges. The people asked Joseph if it was of God. Joseph replied "Yes" it was of God and then Joseph spoke in the same tounge. The Prophet then explained that they had spoken in the language of Adam.
  12. Just medicate the little buger. I'm so just kidding, its just one of those crazy thoughts sleep deprived parents consider when they are about to commit themselves. I am (being the father) about to have my fourth boy in 5 years so I can relate to baby's not sleeping. My poor wife bless her soul has taken the front of the sleep (lack there of). No we don't medicate our kids even though sometimes I wish I could.
  13. Well I for one have enjoyed the discussion and have found the material quite informational. I'm glad it was not discussed because its but that people had constructive comments with references. I thought this was the whole purpose for the forum, not to speculate but discuss. If people are citing references and putting educated comments based upon whats been reveled, have we not been enlightened?
  14. I'm sure there isn't some "cure all" answer to the physic of a rebellious child. Just from my obervations people are drawn to the taboo, things that are new and off the mainstream culture. When its part of the culture its not taboo. THis is not an answer to all cause just as well a child can be raised around alcohol and turn out to be an alcoholic. Is it a catalyst, don't know?. I bet if you asked all the leadership of your ward and stake it would be difficult to find one who hasn't gone through a "rebellion" phase. I would be curious statisically what there specific rebellion was. Now if drinking is taboo in an LDS culture should we expose our children to it more to veer them away from experimenting? I don't really think this is the answer and frankly I don't have an answer. Just an observation. A little off topic but if most people of the church leadership and all (I'm talking about the righteous and faithful "active") have had some sort of rebellion, repentance was a part of there youth to go on a mission. There are great leaders now and have there mistakes as a youth to actually make them better leaders now and better missionarys (not in every case but many). So now with the new mission requirements are many young men even though they have completely repented being denined the spiritual growth to form them as future leaders? Think of Alma and Jonah.
  15. The discourses are held at the upmost high regard but do not carry the same wieght as scripture. Here is what I found. President Joseph F. Smith, counsellor to Brigham Young and later Prophet of God, made this statement with reference to the Journal of Discourses:- "We feel confident that the important instructions on principle and doctrine therein contained, relative to the building of Temples, the salvation of the dead, the introduction of the Order of Enoch, and the general progress and development of the great Latter-day Work, will prove as interesting, gratifying and beneficial to the Saints and to posterity, as those that have been previously published through this medium. "All men can be profited by perusing its pages and pondering over the words of truth and salvation as they flow in beautiful simplicity and power from the mouths of the Living Oracles." (George Q. Cannon. Journal of Discourses. Preface Vol. 9) The "Journal of Discourses:" "...ought to prove a valuable acquisition to all those who love the truth, and long for redemption of scattered Israel. The "Journal of Discourses" is a vehicle of doctrine, counsel, and instruction to all people, but especially to the Saints." (Daniel H. Wells. Journal of Discourses. Preface. Vol. 10) "It is replete with good teachings and wise counsels, and it may be read with profit by all lovers of truth." (Albert Carrington. Journal of Discourses. Preface Vol. 17) (Contributed by Malcolm J. Vickery)
  16. You can take what has been taught for what its worth. If he was or wasn't isn't an issue. It makes sense that he was. The local law at the time would indicate it (being allowed to preach in a synagoge). It makes complete sense in connection with what we learn in the temple. I cant just disprove or ignore so many "personal opinions" from so many great leaders in the church. Surely they have much more knowledge of the things of God than the general public. For a level of sacredness they surely do not share with us all of there experiences. Rosewood, what references are you referring to?
  17. You could say that to most discussions and just end it there. We "speculate" so that we can understand our gospel better. If we are debating what kinda trees grow on Kolob, then I would agree. We are talking about the principles of salvation in regards to eternal marriage and how the Christ participated. There are many references to the subject as before stated so lets discuss them. Is it critical to our salvation to know that there is a Mother in heaven? No Is it taught in the main doctrines of the church? No Has it been taught? Yes Is there one? Yes Does this help me appreciate eternal marriage? Yes So in a sense it does help me with my salvation because I understand more of the plan and what this religions potential is. Here is a question, why wouldnt we talk about if Jesus was married? Is this pulling up some dark secrets that shakes what we believe?
  18. Rosewood, how do you respond to George Q. Cannon, Heber C. Kimball, Orson Hyde, Wilford Woodruff, and Jedediah M. Grant? By chanteemomof6 listing reference of former Apostles and Prophets, does that not say anything? [When Joseph Fielding Smith was asked if this meant that Christ had children, Joseph Fielding Smith wrote, "Yes! But do not preach it! The Lord advised us not to cast pearls before swine!" (Letter to J. Ricks Smith, dated March 17, 1963]

    Books!

To be honest I had never read a book cover to cover till I got out of high school. I had ADD and ADHD. For some reason when I got active in church and wanted to serve a mission, everything was ignited by my brother telling me to try and read one of the Work and the Glory. I had discovered a new world. Within my year to prepare for my mission I went crazy with books. I read, The whole work and glory, BOM 2X, D&C, PofGP. All the doctrines of salvation, miracle of forgiveness. All the missionary books (marvelous work, Jesus the Christ, etc.). Since then, 7 years ago im a reading freak. Pretty much have read all series fictional and non except the history of the church. I wish my mind would of let me read when I was a child. I've read the BOM 11X and the BiBle cover to cover. It just has to click with some kids, but when it does holy smokes life gets interesting.
  20. The grand reason of the burst of public sentiment in anathemas upon Christ and his disciples, casing his crucifixion, was evidently based on polygamy,. . .a belief in the doctrine of plurality of wives caused the persecution of Jesus, and his followers. We might almost think they were ‘Mormons’ ” (Jedediah Grant, Journal of Discourses, Vol 1. ppl 345-346) Journal of Discourses 2:82, Orson Hyde, October 6, 1854 "Gentlemen, that is as plain as the translators, or different councils over this Scripture, are allow it to go to the world, but the thing is there; it is told; Jesus was the bridegroom at the marriage of Cana of Galilee, and he told them what to do... Now there was actually a marriage; and if Jesus was not the bridegroom on that occasion, please tell who was. If any man can show this, and prove that it was not the Savior of the world, then I will acknowledge I am in error. We say it was Jesus Christ who was married, to be brought into the relation whereby he could see his seed, before he was crucified." [When Joseph Fielding Smith was asked if this meant that Christ had children, Joseph Fielding Smith wrote, "Yes! But do not preach it! The Lord advised us not to cast pearls before swine!" (Letter to J. Ricks Smith, dated March 17, 1963] The Seer, p. 172, Orson Pratt "We have now clearly shown that God, the Father had a plurality of wives, one or more being in eternity, by whom He begat our spirits as well as the spirit of Jesus His First Born... We have also proved most clearly that the Son followed the example of his Father, and became the great Bridegroom to whom kings' daughters and many honorable Wives to be married." Wilford Woodruff's Journal 8:187, July 22, 1883 "Evening Meeting. Prayer By E Stephenson. Joseph F Smith spoke One hour & 25 M. He spoke upon the Marriage in Cana at Galilee. He thought Jesus was the Bridgegroom and Mary & Martha the brides. He also refered to Luke 10 ch. 38 to 42 verse, Also John 11 ch. 2 & 5 vers John 12 Ch 3d vers, John 20 8 to 18. Joseph Smith spoke upon these passages to show that Mary & Martha manifested much Closer relationship than Merely A Believer which looks Consistet. He did not think that Jesus who decended throug Poligamous families from Abraham down & who fulfilled all the Law even baptism by immersion would have lived and died without being married."
  21. How do you know that we are short of the revelation? Now im on a quest.
