Most people think they are ziggurats but I think they are mistaken.

There are some things that Nephi did that are not recorded in the Book of Mormon

AFAIK, none of the people of Ammon had a facebook account, either before or after their conversion.

2 For, behold, I say unto you, that it mattereth not what ye shall aeat or what ye shall drink when ye partake of the sacrament, if it so be that ye do it with an eye single to my bglory—c 23 Verily I say unto you, that whoso repenteth of his sins through your awords, and bdesireth to be baptized in my name, on this wise shall ye baptize them—Behold, ye shall go down and cstand in the water, and in my name shall ye baptize them. 24 And now behold, these are the words which ye shall say, calling them by name, saying: 25 Having aauthority given me of Jesus Christ, I baptize you in the name of the bFather, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. 26 And then shall ye aimmerse them in the water, and come forth again out of the water. Is there a contrast between the precision with how Christ sets out the mode of baptism in 3rd Nephi 11: 23 - 26 and the imprecision with which He sets out how we should remember the covenants we make at baptism, as recorded in Doctrine and Covenants 27: 2?

An odd thing happened with callings in our Branch last Sunday. The entire Elders Quorum Presidency was released, and no one was called to take their place. I haven't seen something like that in about 20 years when I was living in another stake and one man was the EQP in two wards and a Branch at the same time.

I know exactly what it is - it's the second book in the New Testament.

Although the wording is not precise, 3rd Nephi 2: 13 - 17 gives the impression that this change in colouring could happen within a year rather than over generations. However, given that there was a higher than usual rate of intermingling between the Lamanites and Nephits at that time, this rapid change could be a result of intermarriage as you have suggested. On the other hand, 3 Nephi 2:16 states that the change happened to their young men and their daughters, and not to their young children and babies.

Just to be clear, my shoe-size is 9 1/2 and there is very little hair on my feet.

I think that part of the explanation might be related to the fact that Alma 3:6 was written about 500 years after the events described in 2nd Nephi 5, which were written at a time and by a person much closer to when the cursing and change occured. Another part of the explanation might be the racism that @MarginOfErrorreferred to. If I was American, I'd tend to favor MoE's line of arguement, but being Australian I tend to favour it.

I get the impression from reading Genesis 4:11 and 15 and 2nd Nephi 5:21 that in the cases of both Cain and of the Lamanites, the cursing God gave them was a related but separate event from the changing of their skin colour. In both cases, the skin colouring seems to be intended as a marker, or identifier, in Cain’s case to serve as a warning to people not to kill him or his seed and in the case of the Lamanites, their skin colour was to serve as a warning to the Nephites not to associate with them. There seems to be no prima facie reason to suppose that the cursing was the changing of their skin colour. Does this sound like a reasonable or correct conclusion? Genesis 4: 11 And now art thou acursed from the bearth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand; One event ^^ 12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a afugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth. 13 And Cain said unto the Lord, aMy punishment is greater than I can bear. 14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall aslay me. 15 And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a amark upon Cain, Second event^^ lest any finding him should kill him (Reason) 2nd Nephi 5:21 And he had caused the acursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. One event^^ For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and bdelightsome, that they might not be centicing unto my people (Reason) the Lord God did cause a dskin of eblackness to come upon them. Second event ^^

I can't allow a statement like this to stand without a response. @Godless you are completely wrong to discount the power and effectiveness of faithful, sincere, humble prayer. Having said that, I do enjoy your posts and often see them as helpful and thought provoking alternative views point on this forum.

I'm inclined to think that the following is still true, but I'm not making any predicions about the details or exact processes of how it will happen. no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done.”

I also made a note about this in my scripture study this morning. I don't think Nephi was comparing apples with apples when he made this comparison. One possibility that could explain the Earth's greater responsiveness to God's will could be that perhaps its agency is not as great as mans. It might have a lesser ability to choose.

This ^^ only covers one side of fast offering. I suspect that large amounts, perhaps even the largest amount, goes to disaster relief or to other non-LDS organisations who are better at disaster relief than we are. As far as I know, all of those funds go out without any strings attached – there is no request or expectation that the recipient of those funds, regardless of their ability, will provide any form of service ever. I think its interesting that the providers of the funds, ie, church members, are expected to provide service when they need such funds, but those who do not contribute to these funds are not expected to give anything when they receive these funds.

Helaman 12:4 4 O how afoolish, and how vain, and how evil, and devilish, and how bquick to do iniquity, and how slow to do good, are the children of men; yea, how quick to hearken unto the words of the evil one, and to set their chearts upon the vain things of the world[MS1] ! I think this description applies reasonably well to the Nephites, particularly during the reign of the judges. I think it applies, but not as well, to people in general. But if that is true, it could suggest a design fault, ie, that the propensity of men to be how they are described in this verse might be a result of how mankind has been created. What is it about men and their agency that so consistently leads them to act in this manner and could they have been designed, with their agency intact, in such a way that they did not so consistently act in this manner? If it is a natural and innate part of man’s nature to act in this way, perhaps there is something wrong with how man has been designed. It is not hard to imagine a man whose natural inclination is to serve God but we don’t seem to have been designed in that way. I wrote the above notes a short time ago while doing my scripture reading this morning. If verse 4 is true, it would add support to the idea that the children of men have been created in such a way that their natural tendency is to be foolish, vain, evil and devilish, and quick to do iniquity. If that is the case, would that be by design and if so, what are the likely benefits of that particular design feature? I'm inclined to think of it as a design fault but I know that there are no faults in the works of God so there must be some other explanation.

Welcome to the site Mrykalov, I hope you participate in and enjoy many of the discussion that go on here.

There have been a great many times when the Lord has not done what I wanted or expected or asked for, but the fault has been with me and not with Him.

Things like that occasionally happen out here in the mission field. We've sometimes gone months with a bishop working with just one counsellor. The most extreme case I can recall is about 20 year ago when the ward I was in had a first counsellor who acted as bishop for almost 8 months. The new bishop who was eventually called did not even live within the ward. Members of that stake sometimes told themselve that they were part of a mi-stake because all sorts of shenanigans went on to cook the books and make it seem as if we had enough members to upgrade from being a District to a Stake.

When I went and had a look, there was a sign at the entrance saying "If you're looking for the 12 tribes we're no longer here."

I've done some looking and have narrowed it down to just 5 continents, som of which are getting smaller every day, thanks to rising sea levels
