Given the frequency with which it is discussed, its almost a long standard discussion.

I haven't seen the talk yet, that will happen this coming Sunday, but the comments here reminded me of a Priesthood lesson I gave many years ago. For my lesson, I quoted the whole of the Sermon of the Mount. I didn't say anything else. Nothing else needed to be said.

Lol, yes, it took quite a few hours before I finally woke up to that. I thought the AI was artificial Intelligence.

This is what it was

I've just had a second look. It came from somewhere called AI General Conference. I think its a fake

Hi all A few minutes ago my wife watched something that contained a still not moving, picture of President Nelson, with a voice over of President Nelson, announcing that Sunday church meetings would be reduced to one hour. I suspect its a fake but I'm not sure. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

I'm delighted to hear that @mirkwoodis now obtaining the things he wants in a more socially acceptable manner.

Yes, definitely my own speculations, although influenced by scripture. Like so many things in life, they are possibilities with varying degrees of likelihood. There are very few absolute truths that we can completely rely on and many less likely possibilities become more likely as new ideas and information emerges.

I don't think we have enough information to make any reliable conclusions about the extent to which differing motivations influenced Lucifer's decisions. However, I think its not unreasonable to suggest that one third of premortal spirits would not have fought solely for the glory of one individual. I don't think the idea of fighting for Lucifer's glory would have been a sufficient motivation for so many spirits to have fought so hard against the opposing idea. There must have been something in it for them other than just Lucifer's glory. Any glory that goes to God also goes to Jesus because they are One. Under both both plans, everbody will live eternally. Some might use that eternity to learn how to play marbles. Some might use it to to learn how to build worlds. And some might use it to learn how to use their agency. The most important thing you need to learn anything is time, and we will all have lots of that.

I suspect that the phrase war in heaven can be replaced by the phrase disagreement in heaven, without any loss of significant meaning. I see the disagreement in heaven as being somewhat akin to an online debate, where the whole world has an opportunity to express a view and choose a side, with lots of debates and side issues going on about various sub-issues, or even various plans, until the whole series of debates and details, has been negotiated/discussed/fought over, with people moving back and forth between different positions, until the whole process comes down to just one or two key issues According to the accounts we have of that disagreement, and its consequences, Lucifer fought partly for what he believed in - everybody's automatic, lesser quality salvation, thanks to a reduced quality of agency - and partly for his own honour and glory. Jesus and His supporters fought for what they/we believed in - the opportunity for everybody to have a higher quality of salvation depending on how they used their agency - and all the glory has ended up going to Jesus. From what I understand, under Satan's plan, everybody would be saved to the same degree of glory, and they would then have eternity in which to learn how to use their agency. Under Jesus' plan, people would be saved to varying degrees of glory, and they would then have eternity in which to continue learning how to use their agency. It might also have been the case that under both plans, the extent/nature/quality of one's salvation would be related to the extent/nature/quality of one's adherence/committment/obedience to whichever plan ended up being agreed upon. Under both plans, Lucifer and Jesus would continue to have some sort of dominion/guidance/leadership/influence/authority over those whose salvation they had enabled. I'm vaguely pondering the implications of the suggestion that history is written by the winning side.

This incident gives reason to suppose that when more than one spirit inhabits a body, there is an increased likelihood that the functioning of that body and mind will somehow be affected. Maybe as a result of overcrowding, and maybe not. We know nothing about the compressability of spirits. It may be that our body can easily handle at least two spirits - our own spirit, and the Holy Ghost, although I believe that Joseph Smith taught that the notion that the Holy Ghost inhabits our bodies is an old sectarian notion. And they were all filled with the aHoly Ghost, and began to speak with other btongues, as the cSpirit gave them utterance.

I went straight from reading this thread to my morning scripture reading, and commencing immediately after the last verse I finished yesterday, I read this verse. I guess Moroni faced the most extreme version of this problem. 3 And my father also was killed by them, and I even aremain balone to write the sad tale of the destruction of my people. But behold, they are gone, and I fulfil the commandment of my father. And whether they will slay me, I know not.

I notice that dress standards for missionaries have changed in recent years. There may be some conclusions that can be drawn from this that inform this discussion.

Thanks @Anddenex, that's a very useful analogy comparing the Bible and BOok of Mormon with Peter and Joseph Smith.

But the very next phrase contains a will, indicating that if you believe that (the BIble) then ye will believe this also.

I still find it difficult at times to resist some forms of sin and be fully obedient in all things. I suspect that this will continue in some way or another to the end of my mortality. The sins which I find hard to resist change with time, as does the means and level of enticement, and my response to those enticements, but they are never entirely absent. I have found hope to be the best, but not the only antidote for despair. In my experience, while hope is the most effective and desirable antidote, strong faith can be a sufficient fallback. Faith can still sustain a person in the absence of hope, but I think that hope is more comforting and easier.

From my scripture reading this morning: 9 For behold, this is written for the intent that ye may believe that; and if ye believe that ye will believe this also; and if ye believe this ye will know concerning your fathers, and also the marvelous works which were wrought by the power of God among them. My understanding of this scripture is that it says, in part, that if ye believe the Bible, you will also believe the Book of Mormon. On my mission, I encountered a great many people who believed the Bible but chose not to believe in the Book of Mormon. How true is the idea contained in this verse, that if you believe the Bible you will also believe the Book of Mormon, and are any qualifiers or additional information needed to make the wording of this idea more accurate or true?

This incident was preceded by Ether 2:25, where the Lord basically said to the brother of Jared, what would you like me to do in response to this problem you have? Despite the brother's presumed lack of knowledge and experience about this particular method of creating light in a dark situation, he presented a solution and the Lord went along with it.

I have similar views, based on Neal A Maxwell's teachings about a "customised curriculum" but I suspect that my views are not as well developed as yours, and I'm not sure if I take the concept as far as you seem to.

For those in or near Texas and North Carolina

Fascinating! Almost thou persuadest me to be a roof ball player. I need to drop what I'm doing and immediately apply for a federal funding grant for how to get this sport up and running in Australia. I think it might also be necessary to commission an inquiry into the standardisation of roof designs in order to facilitate uptake of this previously unknown sport. -
Zion will briefly and temporarily descend on two blessed locations in Texas and North Carolina this year when the inaugural Major Cricket League tournament is held in July. Teams will be coming from six franchises based in Dallas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Seattle and NYC. https://www.foxsports.com.au/cricket/aaron-finch-marcus-stoinis-and-mitchell-marsh-sign-on-for-inaugural-major-league-cricket-tournament/news-story/17aecde6d7be3c1b5a2ccc87d92466ef This will be an excellent opportunity to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of The Things That Really Matter. For the elect who may be worthy to attend, Temple Recommends are encouraged but not required.

I'm impressed and surprised @VortHow many talks do you remember this well from 2007?

John 11: 4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the aglory of God, that the Son of God might be bglorified thereby. John 9: 2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this aman, or his parents, that he was born blind? 3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the aworks of God should be made bmanifest in him. My understanding of John 9:2 is that in response to a question about whether a man’s affliction was a result of his, or his parent’s sin, Jesus said neither, and that this man was afflicted with blindness so that the works of God should be made manifest in him. My understanding of John 11:4 is that Jesus explained that the reason for a man’s death was so that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. Can these two incidents – a man being born blind and another man dying - and the reasons given for them, be interpreted to mean that God gives afflictions to His children so that He might be glorified and His works advanced?
