  1. Nothing you do can affect the Bishop now. You can only affect you at this point. I suggest you make your actions and decisions based primarily on what is in your best interests and what is the most important thing to do for yourself. I have no experience in this area but I'm pretty sure the church has procedures for how to handle things like this. Whatever you decide to do, I hope your love for the church will continue as ultimately, our best hope for healing comes from Christ.
  2. In the pic isn't that @LDSGatoron the left dressed in drag and wearing a wig?
  3. Doctrine and Covenants 19:7 Again, it is written eternal damnation; wherefore it is more express than other scriptures, that it might work upon the hearts of the children of men, altogether for my name’s glory. Alma 36:12 But I was racked with eternal torment, for my soul was harrowed up to the greatest degree and racked with all my sins. Mosiah 27:23 And it came to pass after they had fasted and prayed for the space of two days and two nights, the limbs of Alma received their strength, and he stood up and began to speak unto them, bidding them to be of good comfort I think that Mosiah 27:23 is the best evidence I have come across that Doctrine and Covenants 19: 7 refers to a type of punishment rather than a duration and that eternal punishment can actually be for only a very short period of time. (I feel so much less stressed now knowing that all the bad stuff could all be over in just 2 days)
  4. I had no idea that lords were entitled to wear crowns, thanks for sharing it. I guess my ignorance is excusable, seeing how infrequently they wear them. The presentation to the king of certain garments and ornaments, with counsel as to their symbolic meaning and what they were intended to remind the king of reminded me of parts of LDS theology and practices. I was surprised that the essential part of the coronation, the act that actually turns him into a king, was completely sealed off from public view. Millions came to watch the coronation, but the most important part was obscured from view. Do you know if the same thing happened with his mum? And @Jamie123do you know why the Queen's husband was the Duke of Edinburgh, but Camilla is the Queen?
  5. Over here its very common to see on advertisements for rental properties the phrase "no pets allowed." This requirement then usually becomes part of the lease contract, and then, during the six-monthly inspections by the agent/owner, possession of a pet by the renter can be grounds for eviction. How does it work over there?
  6. Sadly we no longer have whistling wolves in Australia - I think the cats killed them all.
  7. It varies from one jurisdiction to another. In the ACT the legislation doesn't mention specific breeds, it refers to dangerous behaviour by any dog. Despite the huge number of animal lives that cats take each they are not considered to be dangerous. 22 Declarations—dangerous dogs (1) The registrar must declare a dog to be a dangerous dog if— (a) the dog has been trained as a guard dog, or is kept as a guard dog for guarding premises; or (b) the dog has attacked and caused the death of or serious injury to a person; or (c) a decision has been made under a law of a State in relation to the dog, the effect of which is comparable to a declaration under this section. (2) The registrar may declare a dog to be a dangerous dog if— (a) the dog has attacked or harassed a person or animal; or (b) the registrar reasonably believes the dog— (i) is aggressive or menacing; and (ii) without being kept in accordance with a dangerous dog licence, would be an unacceptable risk to the safety of the public or other animals. (3) In making a decision under subsection (2), the registrar must consider the circumstances surrounding the attack or harassment. (4) Subsection (3) does not limit the matters the registrar may consider. (5) If the registrar makes a declaration under this section, the registrar must give written notice to a keeper of the dog. Note For how documents may be given, see the Legislation Act, pt 19.5. (6) The notice must— (a) contain a statement to the effect that the registrar has declared the dog to be a dangerous dog; Domestic Animals Act 2000 https://www.legislation.act.gov.au › current › pdf
  8. The current state of cat containment laws where I used to live: Cats born from 1 July 2022 must be contained Cat containment has been extended across the ACT for cats born on or after 1 July 2022. Containment means keeping your cat on your premises 24 hours a day. This can include your house or apartment, an enclosed area in a backyard or courtyard, or a cat crate. Cats born before 1 July 2022 do not have to be contained, unless they live in one of the 17 currently declared cat containment suburbs. https://www.cityservices.act.gov.au/pets-and-wildlife/domestic-animals/cats/cat-containment
  9. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/1992/10/successful-living-of-gospel-principles?lang=eng You might have missed this one - these are the habits that should drive Christ's true disciples
  10. If what Isaiah says in 65:22 is true, then I think in the latter days many might be more inclined to say blessed are the pacemakers They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a atree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
  11. Sounds like an effective technique for avoiding the possibility of future conference talks.
  12. Of course it was until I was born in Oregon. Fixed it for you @pam
  13. Congratulations @mirkwood, to you, your wife and our son. Exciting times ahead for all of you and lots more growing ahead for your son.
  14. Welcome to the former @schematic_dreamer May your contributions and responses be many and thoughtful.
  15. Perhaps @NeedleinA has gone missing...., perhaps in a haystack? And a @person0 has gone looking for him?
  16. Welcome to the forum @Dyan I had a Bishop who later became my Stake President who later became a Mission President who was divorced. However, the divorce happened a few years before he was baptised.
  17. This is just a thought I had this morning, rather than a question for discussion, although it could lead to some discussion. I like the thought and thought it could be useful, so I decided to share it. Christ suffered for our sins and we suffer for them as well. He is saddened, He is pained, when we act contrary to a manner which promotes our growth and eternal well-being and when we act against the teachings, covenants and commandments He has given us to enable our return to Him. When we repent and turn back to Him, I feel it erases His pain at our rejection of Him and His word just as much as it does ours. To lessen the pain of Christ and bring some measure of joy to Him is yet another reason to repent.
  18. No, I'll definitely be putting more time and effort into my musical preparation than I do for an ordinary meeting. I've also started reading all of the General Conference talks he's given since being called as a General Authority. It seems the church is not treating this as an ordinary meeting either - I've heard that they are sending someone out from the Area Office to see what needs to be done to the chapel itself to prepare for the visit. Members have been asking for years for certain jobs to be done at the chapel, to no avail, but I'm anticipating that some of them will be done before Elder Christofferson arrives.
  19. I believe that Sheri Dew, former Relief Society General President, was single when she served in that calling.
  20. An equally interesting case study, that might point to a different answer is provided by covid19. From memory, at least twice, President Nelson fasted and prayed, and ask the whole world to fast and pray, for relief from covid. It’s difficult to determine what, if any, impact these prayers had. One would have thought that since it was the Prophet, who is often understood to be in pretty good touch with God, was the one asking us to fast and pray, there would be an increased likelihood that the prayed for outcome would come to pass, but I’m uncertain as to whether the evidence supports that conclusion. I guess this is one time when the answer was no. On the other hand, a vaccine was developed much faster than anybody thought would be possible, so perhaps that was an answer to the global fasting and prayer.
  21. As stated by @CV75 I think that God is smart enough to deal with alternative outcomes. A possible answer to this question might be partially illuminated by looking at what happens when we pray about something, receive an answer to that prayer and then disregard, or act contrary, to the answer received. An interesting case study to consider is Joseph Smith’s prayers about whether or not he should allow Martin Harris to take the gold plates. Joseph prayed about it and God said no. He prayed again and God said no again. I think he prayed a third time and God said something like it’s up to you. Joseph gave the plates to Martin and never saw them again. God had already foreseen this at least as far back as the time that Mormon was compiling the plates and possibly as far back as when Nephi first engraved them. No matter what Joseph decided to do in answer to his prayers – give the plates to Martin, or not give them - God was in a good position to respond.
  22. Thanks @Vort I play this one every now and again, and quite enjoy it, along with hymns 33 and 34 which are very Utah based. We have neither mountains nor Winter where I'm living at the moment but we don't need either to make these hymns sound lovely.
  23. The last time I checked, Sub-section 152, of Section 84AAV of Part MCXXVIII of The Universal Code for Free Intergalatic Navigation and Conduct specified that all contact with Kardashev civilisations below level 3 must be avoided. Knowing how rigorously alien nations respect the law as a means of modifying behaviour, I suspect that that is the main reason why we haven’t noticed too many of them around. They don't want to be seen and they take strenuous measures to avoid being seen. Sub-section 153 of the same Code says that if contact is made, or if non-level 3 civilisations become aware of the presence of higher level civilisations, the existence of the contacted or aware civilisation must be discontinued. So I think we should be grateful that we haven’t had any contact so far. If we do, we should immediately cover it up in order to prevent our existence from being discontinued. So, even if there was/is/will be any such contact, its in our interest to keep it hidden.
