  1. Here's how I view it--we may have to suffer from our parents' actions, but we will not be held against it at the judgment bar. We may be born in a really bad situation, but we can still dig ourselves out of it if we want.
  2. I taught some Muslims who questioned about this. My guess (since I really never studied the topic thoroughly) is that the swords were for guarding only when Jesus was in the garden suffering the atonement--only so no one could interfere. However, to attack the oncoming party once it was all done, that's stupid, and when the one apostle cut off the guy's ear, he just didn't understand why he had the sword. It was only for that time.
  3. o_O Are you calling me fat?
  4. Why do we call it tithing anyway? 'Tithe' is a strange translation for the word (as I don't understand where it comes from.) In German, at least, it clearly says the TENTH (Zehnte) in place of the word tithes...
  5. What are they about?
  6. Hm. Guess where? [spoil]Utah? Ding ding ding![/spoil]
  7. I'm trying to make a radio with house hold things. I started a capacitor...stupid thing. I'm also starting to read a book "Gunpowder Empire." Anyone heard of that? Today is my first day at work! I want root beer, but haven't seen Pirates 3 yet. My sibs are playing Cruisin' World, and that horn is annoying me. I've got a Dithmarschen flag above my bed with St. George killing a dragon. It is red. I'm playing a game of mafia on another board, and I hope to win. Should we start a mafia thread here too? I think I'm addicted to anime. Is that bad? Especially if I don't want to watch anything on TV this summer or fall? I think I have my dad's shirt in my closet. That would explain me having two orange shirts.
  8. Another one...
  9. Not me. I don't like headaches. :) then you deffenitly don't want to hear it with flashing lights all around! or dance to it! oh dancing or exersizing with headaces is fun (sarcasum) Or when your high on PCP.... ....not that I've done it.....nope...*shakes head* But yeah, I actually go for techno/trance too!
  10. *tears well up in eyes* I'm so proud for you that you could do that! It was such a pain trying to get investigators to quit their coffee tea... For herbal/fruit tea, try Rooibos (sp?). Most of the flavors non-caffeine--and it's so good! I have to say the best fruit tea I had was made by one of our investigators in Ostfriesland (the tea capitol of Germany)--apples and oranges and cranberries...with Kloentjes (little sugar candies). O_O Wait...uh....anyway....(Turkan apple tea is great too!!!).... Germany had a lot of substitutes for teas and coffees. Dutch cocoa and Karo coffee were among my favs... Well, not really the Karo coffee. Bleh. Sugar doesn't help. ^_~
  11. I like generally the older stuff like U2 and REM. Can't beat the classics like Styx, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd. But for modern music, I turn to a few European and lesser-known punk bands and small town stuff like Greg Simpson.
  12. I just took a little political quiz and it says I'm more liberal. Anywho, I am pro-choice on the subject of abortion. I do not agree with it, and if my girlfriend or wife needed an abortion, I'd consider the situation, but I would generally not support an abortion. However, I would allow them to make that choice for themselves. Yes, it might be murder, but it's their choice. There are still a lot of women out there that are faced with the situation and are given the choice and had to ponder what their choice should be. As for you, a-train.... *puts on Jimmy Hendrix as well*
  13. In many cases, I heard, one can't change it, and can't stop these feelings. It's possible to suppress and to control. It's like other temptations we have--some will be with us life long and it will continue to bother us, but we need to seek the strength to control ourselves.
  14. I like learning about other's beliefs and religions. Like I served a mission in Germany and met with several groups and talked about religion. We met with some Frei-Christen--Born-Again Baptists and we got along great. But then they dug into Anti-Mormon lit, and we contended, the Spirit was SO not there. It left a bitter feeling in my heart today. We met with another group, Muslims (like 30 of them!) and talked religion with them (and learned that we have a lot of similarities). I can tell you the Spirit was there on many occasions when we talked about Christ. We established a strong enough friendship that some said that "if there ever was a Christian church that could connect with the Muslims, it would be your church." We had our differences, however, but we never felt it necessary to drill it and contend over such things. We really opened a door to possibilities there. In many cases, people just want to contend. All I would and could do was say, "You have your experiences, I have mine. I'm just here to teach those who want to be taught and tell them my experience, and encourage them to try it out on their own. I can't convert anyone. That's left between them and God."
  15. This topic came up in Institute yesterday. I was shocked when the teacher said, "We do NOT have tolerance for homosexuals." I was like, "What?!?!" But then it kinda made sense. We all have our drives, passions, and tendancies, right? Some struggle with anger and violence, some sexual feelings, some selfish desires. Acting on those drives does lead to sin, and we should not tolerate sin. So yeah, we have no tolerance for homosexuality just as we have no tolerance for murderers, serial killers, whoremongers, etc. But we still love the people. I can love a person as a friend if they are gay, just the way I would if they had killed someone or if they were a prostitute. So, I guess the lesson I learned is, when the world says "You Mormons are not tolerant of such-and-such group," I can reply, "Yeah, so what? We still love the person. But God frowns upon their sins." It's really not my place to judge them, for I am on the same playing field as they and I have sins as well I need to work on.
  16. Hey! I was gonna suggest that. It's pretty cool. Have you ever seen "Journey of Faith?" You can get it from the FARMS website, I think. It's amazing! They show a bunch of archaeological stuff about Lehi's journey in the old world.
  17. Absolutely. We must be honest in our dealings and be willing to accept the consequences. Ignoring or hiding a sin will not make it go away. We have to pay for them eventually. It's better for us if we do not procrastinate our repentance. I am fine about suffering for it. What about my children? Should they suffer for it? I would agree. You should be honest. You made a mistake, and confessing it is pretty much the first step. Of course, the mistake does has its consenquences. I'm not going to side with the seriousness of it (or if it was not at all), however. Another choice is involved here if you do confess--your wife's--so it's not all dependant on your decision. She can either leave you or forgive you (and we should forgive all, right? *nodnod*) Then again, I'm not married.... ....but these are just my thoughts.
  18. Mine come from a series called Firefly: Jayne: "Ten percent of nuthin' is...let me do the math here...nuthin' into nuthin'...carry the nuthin'..." Jayne: (mock reading Simon's journal) "Dear Diary...today I was pompous and my sister was crazy." (flips page) "Today, we were kidnapped by hill folk never to be seen again. It was the best day ever."
  19. I saw it this week! Yes, very heart wrenching. Reminded me a lot of "Grave of the Fireflies."
  20. Did I introduce myself here? Anyway, I am Orrin Jelo (yes, that is my real *coughPENcough* name. I bet you can guess where I'm from if you say my name ten times fast. Let's see...I'm younger than 24 and older than 21. I often forget my age. And a RM from GERMANY! I've been lurking around this site hoping to make myself feel more comfortable (I get too comfy with another forum, where I hang out most of the time), but I'm warming up here. Oh, yeah... Welcome lilmiss and FrankJL!!!!
  21. I know (by doing it myself) that once someone knows my name, they can find out my parents, my address, phone, school info, account infos, and so on. It's all here on the net. Scary, huh? Sad thing is, for all my accounts I have the same password. The only defense is that each one is slightly different (like adding a number at the end, spelling it a different way) and even that isn't very good.
  22. HEYYYY!!! Well, I figured out 1 and 2 by myself now. *sigh* Okay, I've been home 9 months...and no date. I'd like to blame that all on whatever work and school...I don't think I can. Or blame it because there weren't that many opportunities to socialize. At the end of school, I changed to a singles ward because, yeah, need to socialize. I've found out I'm much more timid than before my mission. But I am doing better! Reading this..."Aim to date once per week" Uhm, wow, that's a goal. Let me start first with GETTING a date, LOL. But I'd like to have that as a goal one day...
  23. Hm. Beyond that, I haven't a clue.
  24. That's strange. Sounds like a problem with your filters.... Hmm...you might want to put your DSL on it's own jack. Put one filter on the master line and use the satellite jacks for anything else.
