  1. @Carborendum But I thought she was practically perfect in every way? But if you don't believe her, you can always youtube Fanny Cradock.
  2. Well. In that case.... Does anyone have a recipe for Spinach Quiche? I've followed several but the crust never turns out.... its always too tough.
  3. I seriously could have posted "Does anyone have a recipe for Spinach Quiche?" and this argument over one's self validation STILL would have erupted....
  4. @BeccaKirstyn You know you're right. You're absolutely correct. The answer was obvious and right under my nose the whole time. In the end I can't judge....
  5. It's fine man. This thread has gone beyond the initial theme. I should have just held my tongue.
  6. @kapikui To answer you question. How do I feel about sports? Honestly I don't follow them much, I'm into personal fitness. However, they're fun to watch but in the end its only just a game.
  7. And what childish things would that be? This whole thread started out with me asking what could possibly drive supposedly normal, well-adjusted women in a Single's Branch to do such nutty things. How is that an obsession? But if you want to know my opinion... then yes a person who do JUST that on live TV is childish and stupid. But I will state my opinions... Members of the church are all types of people with different interests, and come from different circumstances. Sorry, I've spoken nothing but the truth. I have stated examples of people I have meet, and dealt with. If anyone doesn't believe me... to be honest, I wouldn't either. If you get your pants all wadded up because I said return missionaries come back entitled, naive, and brainwashed well sorry, but that was my experience at BYU and after my mission. Besides I thought one of you said that you we should just face reality.... Well... mid-singles go nuts. Mormons are a "STRANGE and peculiar people". Omega came in here and blasted everyone for being an Anime geek and I'm the jerk? Nope... I've been calling it as I see it. I didn't call EVERYONE strange, I didn't call everyone bizarre did I? NO, I only referred to those individuals I have met who did act that way, and referred to knuckleheads and human train wrecks I continue to deal with on a frequent basis. You all don't like what I'm saying? Well don't gang up on me. You think I'm misinterpreting people's actions, give me compelling examples to illustrate your point........ My point and you've all proven it during the past three days is that the doctrine and the social expectations of this church put pressure on members to conform that is that if they fall short they get desperate (MY EXPERIENCES), or get pulled under the tire (Irons' Experiences). The idea that one is saved or part of a chosen people makes them confident....Confident to act goofy when content, and nearly unbearable and close minded if anyone questions it... like Omega's response yesterday. I seem to remember that I NEVER, EVER spoke back to anyone who did not criticize or pick a fight with me first. Don't like it? Well... it just shows how defensive members are that they respond to any criticism not about the gospel, not about the prophet, but of some of the saddest examples of our kind by apologizing for them or becoming outright defensive? NOW...what was that about "childish" things again?
  8. Hi Vort... you suck at reverse psychology by the way. Cooties... no. It was the combination of infantile stupidity coming from a bunch of boys who acted as if they had an edge on the rest of the world. An assurance that swung between naive and arrogant. Nice try though...
  9. @MormonGator: Ain't nothing wrong with board games, ain't nothing wrong with Disney.... But when you have full grown me... BOYS getting competitive over Risk and Cataan, sorry I think I deserve some credit for even giving you the same courtesy that I usually save for the other Priesthood. Also... picture this. You're riding home from church on Sunday... its a nice day out. Everyone is feeling so energized. "Man I love feeling the spirit" - Ok I, I guess I do too. And then, the whole car full of 4 other guys in their mid 20's erupt into "Be a Man" by Mulan. And this from the same ones to who esteem themselves to be upright men of God?
  10. His story is not unusual. I have a friend who is now 35 who was told my his Stake President to not attend a Single's Ward in Mesa Arizona for 8 years. He wishes he had gone because he says he would have been married by now. Whether he would be or wouldn't is impossible to say but he never had a chance to find out. Also the stake president had no right to make that decision because people from all over the area were attending. The church is not immune to bad leadership. I say give the guy a break. He came here trying to explain his part of the story now everyone is picking on him.... What gives? Seriously? He wasn't talking about not having a job, or not getting ahead, he said that women don't want anything to do with him because he's not a return missionary. Seriously? He would know what he's been dealing with because he's experienced it... not you guys...... Should he leave? Well, the solution for me would be to go back to a Family Ward. But he has to do what's good for him, not put up with this crap.
  11. 1) From Merriam-Webster: To mock or make fun of someone or something. Naming a certain individual is not required. In fact a party or group or society is often included in the definition. But you are right. It wasn't lampooning because that would require humor. 2) If I did not read the post, why would I have said, "If it's not unique..." I think you got something confused. My premise was that A) You admit it was not unique. Yet B) You titled your post "...in our faith". Why add those three words if you already know it is not unique to our faith? It would have been a more accurate title if you omitted those three words. So, it leads one to believe that you see something worse in our faith? Or what? NOTE: this item #2. This was a completely innocent question. Why did you add those three words? Was there an additional point you were making that was not explicit in your OP? Why is it so important that merely asking this question brought out ire? This could be the key to the advice you seek. 3) Ok then. 4) "you gotta put this hater back in his place.... Clap, clap, clap." ---Pot, kettle. Grasp, grasp, grasp.
  12. Well Omega dude... you opened a can of worms with this one. I have to admit that yes there is a tendency EVERYWHERE for people to bemoan their problems.... (check out my original post that started this all), but you are the type of Mormon that makes me hate Mormons... I did not serve a mission until 26, because during my time in Utah I met lots of people just like you. So please keep it up. Its members like you that keep things fresh... it gives us a standard to measure ourselves against in that onward march called Eternal Progression.....
  13. Hey Carborendum.... Scuse me... I want to make sure I answer your questions... I mean you're calling me out on a public forum.... can't back down can I? You do know what "lampoon" means, right- Ummm pretty sure. But in case you don't here's the link... http://www.dictionary.com/browse/lampooned Reading that, please review your questions...... did I NAME anyone in particular? Also ahem.... If it's not unique to the church why the OP and title of this thread? I never said it was unique to this church... If you READ my post.. not even carefully I mean its right at the end I said.... "Also I am currently living in Honolulu, and from what I've heard my experiences are not just unique to the church... but it seems like there is a large number of slightly "off" people who come here." However, the topic was about what is driving women in my single's branch here in Honolulu to do such straight up strange things? If it was one incident that's one thing... if it happens twice, ok, whatever... 3 times? Well it can be expected... but straight up 6 or 7? And from different individuals??? Tell me you wouldn't be scratching your head. Hence the request at the very end for... "Any insights, suggestions, or advice would be greatly appreciated." Sobbed for a whole hour? Really? A whole hour? A whole hour? Ok, maybe that's not accurate... it was sobbing, broken up by lamenting which lead to more crying which at at times lead to even more sobbing... for exactly 70 minutes and 45 seconds.... Yes that's right I timed it. When people are looking around and employees are starting to lean over and look because they think you're being abusive... you start getting nervous and looking at your watch. Why did I stay you ask... for the same reason I stay... I had hurt her, and she deserved closure. And after that she still let herself get offended and went as far as to threaten me with a lawsuit for emotional abuse, go to the police and file charges for libel when I confronted her about lies she had told me about her previous leaders and other members she had known in other branches, and tried to shame me on Social Media kinda like you're trying to do right now....... Carborendum, if you're smart enough to use a computer you comprehend the importance of reading a post on an online forum before putting in your two cents.... I can see from your snippy little comments you at least ermm "skimmed". But yeah I went there with the whole name calling, blah, blah, blah... you gotta put this hater back in his place. So good for you. Great job, you SURE showed me didn't you? "Clap, clap, clap".... Now........Here's your change.....
  14. Hi Eowyn... "My husband wants to know where you live, and if you've ever met people. He doesn't know of any guys in his EQ, RM or not, who are giddy over board games (except maybe Risk or Settlers of Catan, sometimes... and "giddy" isn't even the right word), and certainly none who even approach giddy over Disney songs. Tolerant, maybe, but not giddy." Well.... " Also I am currently living in Honolulu, " Its in the thread. Here it doesn't happen. But I've seen my fair share in Utah and California at the Singles Wards over there....
  15. "I do not know what kind of crack people are smoking to believe that serving a full time mission makes you marriage material when in reality it makes you very headstrong, opinionated and giddy over board games and disney songs.... eeeyuhk." Bitter? Nah just stating the obvious. And quite possibly I think I just answered my own question about what makes people go crazy when plans for marriage fail to materialize. The church and missionary work are seperate from human tendency to self glorification when involved in a "worthy" goal.... Anyone hear "the more doors you knock, the hotter your future wife will be?".... Anyone here guilty of saying that?
