Satan's introduction of evil into the world
Grunt replied to theplains's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
What's MDDB? -
Absolutely. I’m sure there is benefit to just having it on, whether I’m intently paying attention or not.
-
I listened to scripture on my commute and at the gym. When I went back around to do it again, I’ve found my mind wanders. I’m going to try paper scriptures this time around.

Sacrament. Is it essential for our salvation?

What’s the law of sacrifice? -
I tried that. I need to buy a paper copy.

Sacrament. Is it essential for our salvation?

Not to mention that according to GP 23 we are commanded to meet often and partake of the Sacrament. -
My kids' college is pretty much paid for. They're 7.

I’m not even saying I disagree, which is why it’s hard to discuss. It seems like you disagree. I’m saying on the face it seems horrible to me. I fully understand that I likely just don’t understand. I want to, though. I don’t like feeling this way.
-
That’s why I said I didn’t want to argue about it. If I didn’t, I’d tithe to other sources like many others do. Just because I sustain the church doesn’t mean I can’t question it. I’m just not sure this is the correct way. I’m glad it happens, though. It opens my eyes to the motives of other members. As Saints, we’re encouraged to ask questions about many things we don’t understand.

I agree. Maybe we should find a few fathers who have abandoned their children, make that their identity, then glorify the behavior by having them conduct the choir.
-
I feel you are REALLY missing the point others are making. We ACCEPT people who sin as you’ve stated. We don’t invite Sally to conduct MoTab BECAUSE she’s a single mother of three living unmarried with 2 lovers and headline it. We will welcome her to fellowship with us. We may invite her to conduct because she’s an awesome conductor and highlight her conducting.
-
Hung up on a particular sin? I didn’t choose this sin to make websites about, headline, and invite to conduct. I’m reacting to the thrust. Starting headlining other sins who are actively attempting to promote their sin and I’ll react accordingly

He's a fundie, though.
-
I can't imagine why any LDS would show up at a parade honoring sin.
-
Which is horrible for the church, society, and eternal salvation.
-
Of course it normalizes it. I suppose it depends on what we mean by those terms. I consider homosexuality to be the whole deal. I consider same-sex attraction to be the condition. I have nothing to base this understanding on, though.
-
I'd be willing to bet they don't view it as poorly as my generation does. The LGBT community has done a great job of normalizing their sin.
-
It's not odd at all. Why do we call ours the "Mormon Tabernacle Choir"? It's branding and outreach. We constantly talk about educating our communities about who we are and conducting outreach. They are doing the same thing. It's one of the reasons I have an issue with it. We're supporting it. How much press did this get? How many of our own youth are well helping normalize homosexuality with? Regardless, I guess we'll see how it turns out.
-
And yet they define themselves by their sin.
-
This is why I said early that I didn't want to argue about it. I just stated how I felt and why I felt that way. I sustain the church leaders.
-
Not really caring enough to go and research information, off the top of my head there was a concert discussed here and The Men's Event in Boston last winter. How much is irrelevant.
-
It IS irrelevant to my point. My point has nothing to do with fellowshipping with sinners. We are to fellowship with sinners.
-
Irrelevant to my point.
-
Is interracial marriage a sin? Is the church reaching out to, giving money to, and publicizing relationships with poly organizations?
-
We should. Again, there is a difference between individuals and groups. There also aren’t many lobbying groups and community organizations pushing for unwed parenthood or encouraging people that smoking is great and should be taught in schools.
