  1. A cynic would say it’s because Gavin doesn’t want to be seen with/ associated with a guy who lost California by three million votes.
  2. I would assume most are pro life, pro traditional marriage, and want religion to play a much stronger role in society. So social conservatives should welcome “them” with outstretched arms.
  3. Correct. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c9wkxv9d99vo.amp It’s coming back with a vengeance too.
  4. Actually, yes, and if you read the forums as much as you day you do, you should know that. I’ll tell you what-I hope you are just a kid. Then there is still time to grow. We all have pet issues. When someone posts things talking about “the jews” like you did, yup. People are going to believe the speaker is anti-Semitic. Regardless of age, mental state, or intent. Take it as a lesson unless you want people to think of you like that. Especially if you aren’t actually anti Jewish*. And, some of us (me) care about the forum, and the reputation of the LDS church. The last thing I want is people to come here and walk away with the idea that we’re a bunch or bigots, excuse bigotry, etc. If that means having to be considered “rude” (I wasn’t, but anyway) I’m totally fine with that. *I’m not sure if you are. Most people who speak like how you did are though.
  5. Okay @zil2. I’ve heard all I need to hear. Very sad. Thanks.
  6. I’ve learned things about specific LDS. Michael Beasley and Jeffrey Judd. I now think every LDS is involved in a pyramid scheme and they are ruining my life. Sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it?
  7. Perfectly said. Antisemitism (and all hate) has horrific and real life consequences. And the one thing that helps it the most? Silence.
  8. Okay. I see this thread and the OP totally differently. No apologies, I stand by everything I said 100%.
  9. Okay. I’ll tell you what-you tell me how @Carborendum and I came to that conclusion. It’s fairly obvious. This thread? You are correct. Crazy me, I think openly hating Jewish people deserves more than just cuddles and love. Other threads? Sure. Start here. There are many other examples.
  10. PS-a lot of the “one hit wonders” either bring it on themselves or choose to not post here again for their own reasons. Everyone here bends over backwards to be polite to even anti-LDS advocates.
  11. With all due respect @zil2, yes we do. It’s obvious the OP is using Jewish hate to make up for his own weaknesses. If someone else tried to blame “X” for their porn addiction or infidelity we’d correctly call them out for it. Agree totally.
  12. I get it. Go Cougars. I graduated from UNH-the only real college in New Hampshire. It’s not Harvard, but it’s not University of Phoenix either. During my graduate work in English at UNH I can’t remember a BYU professor that had a well known reputation in Shakespeare or Milton. I’m not saying they don’t exist-but they aren’t as well known for that as other colleges. Maybe that is where I get my thoughts about them. Now, that said, is Bloomberg still a liberal rag with bias or are they cool with us now? Funny how that changes so quickly. Whatever else BYU is, its reputation is first and foremost an LDS school. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
  13. It is nasty, and people having been saying that about women since the 70’s. My biological mom is a nurse and she told me that people back then always accused nurses of being nurses just so they land a doctor.
  14. It wasn’t a slam-I’m sure BYU is a fine school. But, for most of the outside world it’s known more for being a religious school than the quality of it’s graduates.
  15. While I generally agree with you, the basis of humor is suffering. For comedy to be funny, someone has to be in some form of unpleasantness. I’d rather live in funny world that crosses the line sometimes than a dry and serious one where no one laughs.
  16. Absolutely true. But BYU is hardly blameless. It’s pretty cool to have a best selling fantasy writer on your staff and it will certainly draw students and attention. And money.
  17. A lot of colleges are like that down here too.
  18. Beats me. I feel sorry for all parties involved. I don’t understand professors who apply there and have no interest in holding up BYU values. But, on the other side of the coin, if they can’t find someone who has proper credentials and a publishing record who wants to teach there, that’s a red flag too
  19. BYU has to choose between becoming like Notre Dame or a religious school that actually takes their religion seriously. Notre Dame is CINO-no one there cares too much about the “Catholic” part of the university. BYU probably doesn’t want that.
  20. Is there a demand to teach there? Are people competing for the professor positions? BYU might be a great academic school. I know absolutely nothing about their academics. But from the “outside” it’s largely considered a religious school that only appeals to LDS. Again, nothing wrong with that.
  21. Oh same. It’s grimly funny, but I feel bad for him too. Stage moms are a plague.
