My husband showed up to work 5 minutes after the police picked up a guy for the same thing. A woman saw him and yelled, "LOOK WHAT THAT GUY IS DOING!!!!" She then screamed at him what a pervert he is.

Does anyone else feel like men are picked on in the church?
MorningStar replied to bonanzafan's topic in General Discussion
If you feel men are picked on because of some women, picking on good women is not the answer. Don't take out your frustrations on good wives whose husbands have been addicted to porn since they were kids. It's not like these boys decided to look at porn in anticipation of being treated crappy by their wives in a couple decades. -
This makes me want to start my own bill. The Right To Assault Perverts Bill. My brother is a cop and some guy did this in front of a bunch of Girl Scouts while they were selling cookies! AAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!! So unfair that you can't stone him with Thin Mints.

I might have to get a cell phone just for this sort of situation.
-
Eowyn, I haven't heard that in forever! Hahaha!!!! Love that.

It happened in a thrift store where there are children. It seems like these guys usually get away because they take off as soon as someone stares at them in shock. I'm hoping there were surveillance cameras that might have captured the pervert.

Years ago I went to a popular park in Seattle as a teenager and while my sister and I were playing hide and seek with friends inside this covered area, our moms were nearby waiting for us when a bicyclist decided to watch us while he "treated his body as an amusement park". I could tell he was staring at us and the Spirit told me not to look right at him. My sister's friend said, "Let's get out of here." She told us what he was doing and I was horrified. I was also furious that he got away and I vowed that if I ever witnessed such a thing, I would make sure the dude was bleeding so the police could identify him easily. Just a bit ago, a friend said she witnessed a guy doing this in a local store, which started a conversation between me and my husband. He thinks if I were to kick the guy in the face, it wouldn't be self-defense, but assault. He does think I could make a citizen's arrest. Ew. I don't want to hold him down while he's still exposed. Anyone know the law on this? Can't I make them bleed at least a little bit? He says I would have to feel threatened. Yeah, I would feel threatened by that. All I can think is that he's working his way up to molesting or raping someone.

Trying to Verify/Debunk a New Urban Legend
MorningStar replied to Just_A_Guy's topic in Church News and Events
I know of one bishop who got 100 phone calls in one week, so doesn't seem so unlikely. -
It sounds like you thought you could bargain your way out of telling the bishop what you did (by being extra good). If your wife did the same thing, wouldn't you want to know?

I know a district nearby that does the same thing. They have a fruit and veggie grant. Our school has snack time, but they typically have fishy crackers or whatever else parents bring.

Some questions can be easily answered by other members. Remember that bishops get many, many calls and emails and probably forget a lot of things when there are very weighty matters to handle, plus issues with their own families, jobs, etc.. If you don't know if your tithing was received, check your bank statement online and see if it went through yet. If it didn't after a long period of time, maybe ask the ward clerk instead of the bishop.

I don't understand a person not knowing how to eat healthy, but I do understand not having transportation to get to a grocery store. I don't know how a person would get through school not knowing that fruits and vegetables are good for you and junk food is not.
-
They do have produce, but if you're doing a two week order and everyone in your house is supposed to have 5 servings of fruits and veggies every day, it's not humanly possible to fit it in the average refrigerator and a lot of it won't survive that long. And don't forget the Jell-O.

Have you ever needed welfare assistance from the church?

I believe health care is expensive for many reasons, including advances in technology. When I broke my foot years ago, it just wouldn't heal on it's own. There wasn't a lot of circulation to the area, so after 12 weeks of no healing, they finally got me a "bone stimulator". It's a mini ultrasound machine and it costs $4,000. I had to pay $400. The FDA ruled that it can only be used by one patient for one event, so it's battery powered and if you need to use it longer, you mail it back and they will recharge it for you, then send it back to you. I can't think of any logical reason why they decided this, but the manufacturer told me I could mail it back to them to recycle it and they would be able to fix it up and use it for another patient. I asked, "Do I get any money back for that?" "No." "And you still get to make another $4,000 off of it?" "Yes." I told them, "This is about to be the most expensive toy my children have ever owned." I'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to ridiculous policies.

Sounds like he was trying to create a calling and it didn't happen like he wanted it to.

Haha! Those are great. Have you seen the show IT Crowd? It's on Netflix. Every time someone calls, one of the guys asks something like, "Is the computer turned on?"

I don't think there is a limit. Go talk to the bishop and ask. I'm sure he would be happy to help. :)- 15 replies

Your wife was willing to stay with you and work it out and you didn't take it?!?! -
Hahahaha!!!! Good stories.

Years ago before I had seen a mouse with more than one clicker, I was at my brother's house and my sister-in-law was teaching me how to do something on the computer. She said, "OK, now right click on it." I was confused, "Write click? I'm supposed to write the word 'click'?" She laughed pretty hard. My friend was just telling me about her sister getting confused when her grandson yelled, "Help! I can't get out of here!" It scared the crud out of her. Turned out he couldn't get out of his computer program.

This is true. I'm just really hoping it won't lead to, "What can I do to improve? Can you give me another chance?" If I were smart, I would have been extra chicken and said, "HELLO? HELLO? DUMB BROKEN PHONE!" and hung up. Of course, when people dump me, I like to be told, but I wouldn't call them 5 months after they start ignorinig me and ask, "Hey, when are we resuming piano lessons?" I can take a hint.

Anyway, the point is, I'm not good at dealing with confrontations. I'm George McFly. It would have been perfectly reasonable to tell him it was a surprise to hear from him because he didn't follow through 5 months ago and I just assumed neither party found the relationship to be a good fit.
