  1. Albert Einstein said..."All that I know teaches me to trust in the creator for all that I don't know". I know little, but the love I feel for my family and others comes from God. The things that we don't know is why we need faith. I have had many spiritual experiences that simply will not allow me to disbelieve. This is why faith exists and grows by trusting in Him.
  2. Compassion does not have conditions. But his Bishop can ask that members attend and give service. So if he knows he can challenge him to make an effort to obey the WoW, and ask for him to meet with his weekly or bi-weekly so that he has someone to be accountability with. Not sure however as his boss if you should be the one to tell the Bishop...tread lightly.
  3. Sorry double post.
  4. Maybe you're right...don't mean to sound ungrateful. Forgive me if it seemed that way, that was not my intention.
  5. You forgot the piano...it is a string instrument. The Church I grew up in canceled a gospel singing because they would not allow string instruments. The Pastor got angry when my uncle reminded him that a piano was a string instrument. :)
  6. Good reply...maybe what I lack is the faith to be healed. My mother was not a member but had faith like no one I have ever known. Once I was in the hospital and was unconscious and thrashing about my wife tells me that when she arrived she walked over and put her hand on my forehead and I stopped thrashing around. I think mothers have a power that fathers only wish they could have. I was lucky to have my mother for 56 years...even now I cannot bring myself to delete her phone number from my cell phone.
  7. I posted a thread of my son-in-law was healed due to a blessing my son and I gave him. In the Doctrine and Covenants it lists all of the Spiritual gifts with the language..."to some it is given and to another it is given" (hope I quoted it correctly). When my oldest daughter was 5, she had a medical issue that doctors sad could only corrected by surgery. I (with the help of a missionary) gave her a blessing and she was healed and did not need surgery. When my wife was found to have a lump in her breast and was supposed to have surgery...I blessed her with the help of another Elder and she was healed. Now in the D&C, it says that "some have the gift to heal and others the gift to be healed". I have two illnesses that I have gotten blessings for but no healing. Once while very sick and received a blessing...later that night I was hospitalized and spent three days in the hospital. If anyone is to be healed, I would rather it be my family...so to the question. Can someone have both or all gifts? (This is probably be a great question for "Ask Gramps".) I welcome any replies. :)
  8. For lifelong members calling someone by their "Christian Name" is not a big deal. For new members and recent converts it is both a sign of respect and a teaching moment. When face to face, be it Bishop, Stake President, Missionary or General Authority, etc, it should be done out of respect. Either way...it is a good habit to acquire, lest making an error when addressing in a teaching moment. However the First President and the Apostles, most will know who you are referring too...with the Seventy, most would not know you are quoting a General Authority.
  9. When My Mother Prays When my mother prays Angels take their flight, To guard my way by day To protect me in the night. When I forget in whom I trust And bow on bended knee, There is one who won't forget To plead my case to Thee. In darkness I have walked, Not knowing well the cost. A voice is heard on high, Before my soul is lost. In sickness and in health Circumstances though they be, My name Thou can't forget When my mother prays for me. In the purest form of love Her prayers for me are heard. In language know to Angels, In the simple spoken word. And yet these words ascend To Thy throne exalted high, Request for promised blessings, Which Thou cannot deny. Blessed is her name, Her devotion knows no bounds. In her quiet secret place, On her knees she will be found. With courage I will face, The trials of coming days. The heavens shake for my good, When my mother prays. Dedicated to my mother...Norma Francis Lee October 30, 1932 -- March 24, 2014 Fill free to cut and past if you like the poem...my only request is that you leave my mother's name on it. God bless.
  10. No boast here... My son-in-law has been sick, and he came by to pick of my daughter and my grandchildren. He has been feeling very bad for a number of days. While here my daughter went into the bathroom to check on him. He was balled up in the floor and hurting ver badly. My daughter asked if we could give him a blessing. So myself and my son blessed him. During the blessing he began to cry, when I asked why he was crying he said because he was healed and repeated a number of time "the Priesthood is real" (he said it about three times with tears flowing. I told him; of course it was, having served a mission you know it's true and real. It was great!
  11. My youngest daughter (now 30) is gay...she has a "wife", I have decades members long friends who have grown cold to me as a result. My daughter helped with my youngest son (via assistance help pay for his mission) and comes over every Sunday with her spouse for Sunday dinner. Some of my LDS friends think I am encouraging her by letting her come over with he spouse. My daughter nd I are very close. But I love her as I do with all of my other 3 childern. I love her with all my heart and would lay down my life in an instant for here. As far as any childern she might adopt or have through artificially, I would treat that child I would treat like my other 8 grandchildren. But God and nature has already passed judgment on the children of those...they cannot reproduce and even if adopted, in short they cannot ensure if they would be gay. But like all others we should be loving and compassionate, just like all God's children, that we remain blameless before our Father and Saviour, that we remain the worthy children of our Father in Heaven. Because I need to remain forgiven and bathed in the blood of Christ. God help us all to b the same.
  12. In Georgia it is allowed, but most companies will not allow you to do so. Thus, we are required to follow the rules of our employer. So if we did bring a gun to work and was asked, if we lied then we are not being honest in our dealings with our fellow man. A required yes to the question for a Temple recommend applicant or holder of a recommend.
  13. OK...quick. His Grace is sufficient, as we cannot live perfect lives. As such, when I stand before God in the last day and passing by the Saviour (See 2 Nephi 9: 41) to gain access to the Father...all I care about is; Grace and not Justice", which Christ will be able to do will all love and wisdom. I cannot know every sin I might have committed, and this is why Grace, and Love will be my Salvation.
  14. I watched it, but doctors are under the obligation to "do no harm". Suicides are high among those who receive sex change operations. As such stricter rules have change from earlier days...requiring that applicants live for at least one year as a woman or man if the process is to continue. Most are rejected because of mental health reasons. In his case, I hope his wealth does not tempt doctors to break any rules. His high profile as an "Gold Medal", status and his fame on television also concerns me. People should not be unkind and from one of your posts you feel that many have gone too far...I agree. But for the rank and file, most are rejected because many they think they are transgender, but are rejected because of depression, which leads them to believe they are depressed and being someone else would make it better. If he things this is to be, why do the interview (which will put their ratings and earning potential into outrageous level) in the public eye. Also just because someone thinks they are transgendered...if there were not some many rejected, I would say that in most cases (which we know are due to physiological) this should be a point of concern. Either way making jokes about it shows a lack of tact. So I will not be jumping on that bandwagon. But in his interview he could not answer as to what sex he would be attacked is quite telling. But what we should all do is to try to be understanding and prayerful for Bruce. No good can ever come from mocking. People usually mock because, we humans love labels, we like to put everyone we know into little boxes so they can be managed and we can make sense of things we do not understand...it is a coping mechanism. It is hard work for so many, as it is for me, to take the time to get to know others to get the full picture. Whatever the reason, or cause, or environment...we should be kid. Simply put; "when in doubt, be kind". Christlike love requires us to walk the extra mile...that (of course) is what our Saviour would do. You have not been LDS, for as many years as most here, so the last thing I would want for you (my dear sister) is to think others of our faith are mean, angry or un-Christlike. But that is the nature of the beast, that words upon a page; it can lead to misunderstandings. No doubt you have seen the news where many women have gotten very upset, even beating one guy up for using women's bathrooms...until you are indeed a woman, that has got to stop! But in our day (the present) City, State and Federal need to protect all, and not think only of the tenth, of a tenth, of a tenth, of a tenth.
  15. Serving a mission is not required to be a member. As a people we are supposed to live per this quote; "every member a missionary". As such we come out of the waters of baptism into our calling as a missionary, and are released upon our death here on earth. However we also know that our mission field will then be to administer to those who never had the opportunity in this life...that mission will not end until the "final judgement. I try to go out once or twice a week with our missionaries, as a convert who was already married, I could not go. But now that I am retired so I try to help the missionary cause and calling.
  16. Normally true, but only because they have met my kids and grand kids. :)
  17. Indeed, the blast furnace comes on in late May and remains on through October. It will be coming on line soon. I have a three acre front yard that must be cut every week and the heat is unreal. However...so green, so much forest land. :)
  18. He can forgives and does the way we do our children. Although our children lack the same judgements as do most adults. Even though, we cannot live perfect lives and thanks to atonement we don't need to...we only need do our best and try. Man nor woman can not work themselves back into God's presence...it is only because of Grace that we can "try" to receive God's greatest blessings.
  19. The policy is in place because phones can be used to record. Most of what you find on the net are from people recording as their final rebellious act before leaving. But it does seem at times their can be more rules than blessings. We all have a little Pharisees in us at times...even Temple Workers.
  20. You are correct, it is insulting and bad doctrine. I grew up in the segregated South...I never understood the hatred. When I went into the Army in 1976, I realized how silly racism of any kind is, and how unchristian in every way. But, also living in Atlanta, and growing up during the civil rights movement, helped me to see the truth...that and Godly parents.
  21. As a former rider, there is only two types...those who have not crashed and those who do. When I was in the Military, my bike was my second car. In short the longer you ride the more emboldened you become.
  22. Knowing how many in the world wish all Jews dead...one can only wonder at why such a hard line. Having lived in West Germany many years, I would have not remained there and that was in the 1970's. Anti-Semitism is alive and well throughout the world, not just anti-Israel. Even the short history of our own faith is one in which we had to fight or flee. Put that is a context of 1,000's of years and you will understand, "Never Again". I grew up in Atlanta and our largest Jewish congregation on Peachtree St was bombed when I was a boy. We felt our windows shake.
  23. This is before 1978 when policy changed, but marriage is tough. You need similar education, same educational backgrounds, salaries , cultures so there a be common ideas on how to raise children. And them all these similar earnings...and then maybe you'll have a chance. There is no, perfect situation.
  24. Yes it may be possible, but not likely as there are so many sins. Yes we have our will or agency, which makes things difficult. There are 613 sins according to Jewish law, sometimes we get selfish or angry without even meaning too. The important thing is baptism and repentance, thanks to a loving Saviour, and each time we partake of the Sacrament which is as if dipped once again into the waters of baptism making us weekly prepared to enter back into the Kingdom of God and live again with our Heavenly Father. But it is not our will or agency that causes us to sin, but that we are in a fallen state. But God our Father has given us a way back....but without will or agency we could not choose the right, or choose Him or His Son. So that God we "can" choose the best and are not lost.
