The way we've done it in my ward (and it's working great) is that we sent around a paper asking the ladies what they were interested in learning or teaching or being a part of. Then we took that list and found there were several ladies who were interested in starting a book club. We picked someone from that group and asked them to be the leader of it and organize meeting times and places and be in charge of making sure a book got chosen from a list of LDS authors, etc. We did the same for the movie night, kids play group, scrapbooking group, crafts group, monthly luncheon group, cooking group, sewing group, breakfast group and all the other groups that got organized. The group leaders determine how often their group is going to meet and what they'll be doing. They are responsible for contacting my enrichment counselor and letting her know the details. She passes that info on to me (RS Pres.) and I put in in our announcements. I get to church a few minutes early on Sundays and stand with the missionaries who are handing out the programs for sacrament and I hand out the RS announcements to all the ladies. Having a designated leader for each group frees up the enrichment counselor so she can concentrate on the 4 big enrichments we have during the year.

I'm a collector of quotes and I have many from both Gordon B. Hinckley and Spencer W. Kimball. Here's another favorite one from President Hinckley: "People wonder what we do for our women. I'll tell you what we do. We get out of their way and look with wonder at what they're accomplishing."
-
Another favorite: “Our lives are the only meaningful expression of what we believe and in Whom we believe. And the only real wealth, for any of us, lies in our faith.”
-
“Under the plan of heaven, the husband and the wife walk side by side as companions, neither one ahead of the other, but a daughter of God and a son of God walking side by side. Let your families be families of love and peace and happiness."

I had to quit smoking in order to join the church. At first I worked really hard on not smoking and it didn't work. Then, at the suggestion of the missionaries, I worked really hard on reading the scriptures and praying. At one point I stopped to say a prayer every time I had the urge to have a cigarette. Pretty soon I was able to stop smoking. That was a lot of years ago and I'm still smoke free. Good luck, you just have to find out what works for you.

At the last Relief Society Birthday Party we had a skit about Visiting Teaching. At the beginning of the skit we were "finishing up" the VT lesson and then chatted for a couple of minutes. Then we told the the lady we were Visit Teaching that we needed to get home and get some other things done. At that point she said she enjoyed our visits so much that it would be great if we could get together with all of our children and go to the park or out to lunch. One of us then said that we were very sorry but we had used up our alloted time with her that month but we'd be back the next month to see how she was doing. All that to kind of point out that VTing shouldn't be a chore. That we should really get to know the sisters on our list and become friends with them so that we enjoy and look forward to the time spent with them. I followed up the skit with a talk letting the women in RS know that if they had someone on their list or a VT companion that wasn't working out for them, to let me know so I could make some changes. I got about 15 requests for changes and the VTing is getting done a lot more frequently now.

A lot of people I know use their old 2 Liter soft drink bottles. They should be fine.
-
No fumes if you only put a teaspoon of bleach per 5 gallon jug. You shouldn't really be able to smell or taste it.
-
It depends upon how much bleach you put in the water. Almost, if not all, city water systems in the US have bleach added to the water because it's the cheapest and safest biocide that exist. If you drink water with too high a concentration of bleach in it, you can kill off the good e. coli in your intestines and that would be unhealthy.
-
The bleach dissipates after a time. Bleach is sodium Hypochlorate which is NaOCl. After a while the oxygen is turned loose and the NaCl (table salt) drops to the bottom. So after 6 or 8 months you wouldn't really taste the bleach.

My favorite food is chocolate covered fudge.

That's a beautiful story. It brought back wonderful memories of my own baptism. Thank you.

Any good 72 hour kit should contain chocolate. Heck, any good first aid kit should contain chocolate.

Here's what I use: Genweb project – This is a project that consist of government records being put on the internet by volunteers. Very reliable depending upon the accuracy of the volunteer and clarity of the record. Google ‘genweb’ then click on the state you’d like to do research in. Then click on the county you are researching. This contains birth, death and marriage records as well as school records, family bible records, census, wills and tax records, etc. It’s being updated on a daily basis. LDS Website – (click on family history) You can register using your Membership Record Number and confirmation date. This allows you to see what, if any temple work has been done for a particular individual. Family Forums – Google (surname) family genealogy forum. You’ll find a list of correspondence from people doing research on the same family you’re researching. I recommend getting a solar oven. You don't have to worry about storing fuel although you do have to worry about the sun not shining for awhile. A lot of solar ovens will get to 350 F easily and cook food in the same time frame that you're used to in your gas or electric oven.
