  1. I'd like to shave my head in the hot muggy Texas coastal summertime but my husband is dead set against it.
  2. Last August we did a survey in RS asking several questions about home food storage. While going over the results we realized most people had money and room for food storage but they didn't have the time to go to the cannery (it's a 3 1/2 hour round trip for my ward) and actually can the food. We found out that most, if not all, canneries have a portable can sealing machine and a portable pouch sealer. We've brought pouches, cans, lids, O2 packs and a bunch of bulk food to our area 3 times since November and our members have stored nearly 6,000 pounds of food. We also have a few "young grandma" types who are willing to go to the cannery with the smaller orders of the young families in our ward and do the canning up there. We have also had great response to this. Thought I'd pass these ideas along in case someone else could do this.
  3. We usually have our Super Saturday in November but this year we opted for May. We're making "Bloom Where You're Planted" wooden signs, Pine Cone ornaments made from ribbon, Glass Block Temples, Nativity Sets, Photo books, Living Christ photo mats, Pictorial Family trees, Coasters out of tile, Boutonnieres and corsages as well as the standard "gifts in a jar" like soup and cookies. We're also asking everyone to sign up to bring soups, sandwiches and desserts.
  4. You got it.
  5. Our Super Saturday is a Tri-Ward RS activity where we all get together from 9:00am until 3:00pm on one Saturday each year and make crafts. We also have lunch together.
  6. I have been told we worship seagulls and that Brigham Young is not the real name of our second latter day prophet. That he started getting called that after he told all the men to grab all the girls they could get hold of to bring to Salt Lake and he kept saying' "Bring 'em young". Pretty soon he was known as Bring 'em Young and then later as Brigham Young. His real name has been lost to history. This was reported as part of an assignment in a Sociology class I took in college.
  7. Do all wards have Super Saturday? If you have it, when do you have it?
  8. This new program is really great. Temple ready in 5 steps! Woohoo!
  9. Ride my Bicycle from coast to coast. I might do it anyway if I can get all the churches lines up. Puf----Archimedes?
  10. What about the self-propelled lawn mowers we have now? I'm over 50 and my kids had to actually PUSH the darn mower, not just guide it around the yard. Of course, back in my day we had to mow the yard my biting the blades with our teeth.
  11. And sometimes a conversation can continue on without the OP's interest or input.
  12. I can't get in yet.
  13. I haven't tried to log on yet because the Bishop said it would take 72 hours......um....be right back......
  14. Praying here too and glad you're feeling better.
  15. One of my favorite quotes is "Forgiveness is not something we do for other people. We do it for ourselves-to get well and move on." I say this to myself everyday because my daughter was raped when she was 6 years old by a man who has yet to apologize. That was over 20 years ago and I still struggle with this. I have found that praying for the man helps. I've been praying for him periodically for several years now and the hurt and anger is finally starting to fade. It is working so I'll keep praying for him. Strawberry, I'm really sorry for what has happened to your family. You're in my prayers.
  16. Kona, Are you trying to NOT be offensive when you say things like " I think JS made it up and put it in there."?
  17. The Mayan calender ends on Dec 21, 2012. The I-Ching doesn't make predictions after Dec 22, 2012. There's a whole bunch of websites dedicated to the end of the world.
  18. For someone who thinks this is a stupid subject to discuss, you sure seem to be in here a lot.
  19. I was called as a Family History Consultant this morning. I'm in my 72 hour registration waiting period. Do they not know that 72 hours is f-o-r-e-v-e-r to a genealogist? We were told the program goes "live" in May of this year.
  20. Those are pretty neat but you could just get some timers and put them on a couple of lights in your bedroom. It would probably have the same effect.
  21. I was recently helping a guy build a rock wall around a garden in the Texas Hill Country. By the end of the day our hands were in bad shape so I was going to rub in some lotion. He saw what I was doing and stopped me and instead got a banana. We rubbed the inside of the skin into our hands. It worked better than any lotion I've ever used!
  22. The butter powder taste leaves a lot to be desired. That's why I'm happy to be canning my butter.
  23. Give a hand up, not a hand out.
  24. Ghee is different than canned butter in that you start with unsalted butter and then boil/simmer off the water. The protein will settle out on the bottom and then you scoop off the top and that is ghee.
  25. To can butter you take pint jars and put them in the oven at 250F for 25 minutes. Slowly melt the butter and bring it to a boil for at least 5 minutes. Have the lids and rings boiling for at least 3 minutes. Pour the boiling butter into the hot pint jars almost to the top. Make sure the rim of the jar is clean, then put on the lids and rings. Wait a little while and you will hear the plink of the lids sealing. Shake the jars every 5 minutes for about an hour to keep the butter from stratifying as it cools. You're done!
