  1. I think many can't see past the "rules" we have to the freedoms and blessings we get from obeying those rules.

    Cornucopia

I can set bones, stitch cuts and deliver babies. I can also hunt and trap and preserve meat. I garden and can.
  3. Anyone know if bicycling is considered weight bearing exercise?
  4. I am one of the people who has a concealed carry license. I have always carried a gun in my car and have shot guns and hunted all my life. I took the concealed carry class thinking I wouldn't learn much but I learned a lot. I recommend it just for the gun safety part. As far as sharing my food with others in times of need.....I have always figured the 3 month supply was for me and my family and the 12 month supply is so we will have enough to share. I won't allow it to be taken but I will share if asked or if I see a need.
  5. Too many things to list but the one at the top right now is that I'm grateful for good medical care. My 7 week old granddaughter wouldn't be alive right now if it weren't for great doctors, nurses and the facility to do their work. I'm grateful to God for guiding their hands and minds.
  6. My 31 year old son has left the church. How I react is to treat him with love and respect and pray every day for him. I also keep his name in the Temple. I've never loved anyone just because they were a member of the LDS Church and my son is no exception.
  7. I know what you mean. Aislin eats all day and night and I'm constantly filling up my daughter's water glass. The little one is starting to outgrow her newborn clothes already. They grow so quickly.
  8. I chose atheist but my family was Baptist.
  9. She is sooooooooooo cute! I'm glad it all turned out good for you and the little one. Your baby girl was born the same day thats my daughter had her baby girl.
  10. Rev. 20:12 &13 [12] And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. [13] And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. This is from the KJV of the bible which, as a Baptist, we used growing up. I never got a satisfactory explanation from my family as to how this fit in with their Once Saved; Always Saved doctrine. When my aunt found out about my brother having committed murder, her response was, "Well, thank goodness he's saved".
  11. I'm TBM
  12. I don't miss kneading bread. One of the greatest inventions ever is the dough hook. That and the microwave.
  13. It looked to me as if nobody was inhaling in the "doctors" commercial. Sheeesh.
  14. I love getting really noisy toys for my grandchildren but my son keeps sending them to my house when he drops the kids for a grandma day.
  15. Going back to work after any kind of surgery depends on the type of job you have to go back to and your own physical response to surgery. My secretary had a lumpectomy and missed a week of work. I had the same thing and had to miss 3 weeks because my job is a lot more physically challenging than hers. We also had two of the men who had simple knee surgery. One was gone for 2 weeks and one was gone for 8 weeks. Neither had complications although one was a lot heavier than the other.
  16. You said: Worker A ) works 50 weeks a year with a 2 week vacation Worker B ) works 44 weeks per year with a 2 week vacation and 6 weeks of maternity leave . Worker b doesn't deserve the same compensation that worker A gets because B does less work. The 6 weeks of maternity leave is not vacation, it comes out of the sick time bank that all employees at the same level will have. What you are talking about is penalizing someone for using more paid sick time.
  17. Saying or implying that woman don't deserve equal pay when most will only use maternity a paid leave once or twice in their entire career is pretty sad. I guess you could base individual wages on how much sick time the average man or woman takes. That would automatically make smokers and alcoholics, more of whom are men, have lower pay for the same job. And let's not forget those few men and women who are recovering from cancer or other serious illnesses. Based on number of sick days they've taken in the last year they should have to pay to come to work. (sarcasm intended but not meant to be mean)
  18. I saw something up close once that makes it really hard for me to believe they don't exist. I'm still trying to be a skeptic though.
  19. This is a bittersweet summer for me too. It's the summer I went to a WWII paratroopers reunion and agreed to jump out of an airplane the next time they get together - I hear there's a weight limit on being allowed to jump so I have a year to gain 180 pounds. My friends little boy was diagnosed with a really bad cancer. On the upside, I have spent an awful lot of time with my 3 grandkids this summer. I've gone down slides with them and gone thru a lot of ice cream cones and even climbed a tree or two. :) They bring out the kid in me.
  20. Tell her 'pushy' turns you off and you won't be meeting with the missionaries until or when you decide to.
  21. I live in a small, south Texas town where we have 3 wards meeting in the same building. We will soon have 4 wards so we are growing.
  22. Congrats and good luck. Remember to do whatever it takes to keep the gift of the Holy Spirit with you. It makes all the difference in the world.
  23. Howdy! Another Texan here, from the Houston area. Good to 'see' you here.
  24. We worked in Beaumont, Texas after hurricane Rita and it really was awesome. The amount of work a small group of folks can do is incredible and we all felt like the Lord's hand in it made it all go smoothly. I'll do it again in a heartbeat.
  25. Sadly, I've had several friends who have committed suicide. My Bishop has assured me they are safe and in the care of our Father and He knows their suffering and loves them immeasurably.
