I've just been called as Primary President and I've never been in primary before in any capacity. Today was my first experience and I was surprised at how much talking, walking around, and just general irreverent behavior was going on. We only have about 35 kids and at any given time about 15 to 20 were talking. I'm open to ideas for getting this under control without alienating them. Should I make blue and pink silk capes with a giant "R" on each one for the quietest child to be Reverence Man or Reverence Woman? Should I bring treats for the ones who behave the best? Should I give one invitation out each week to the most reverent child and then do something special with them later? Should I just duct tape the mouths of the ones who are the loudest? I live in Texas so I'm sure it would be legal. Any ideas on what would work?

Well, I had a nice little break but now I've been called as Primary President. I've never been in Primary in any capacity. Not as a child. Not as a teacher. Nothing. I hope nobody dies. I think this proves God has a sense of humor.

To pepsidriver, you do know the Bishop gets the receipts and therefore knows how much food you have gotten. If your RS President goes to the Bishop's Storehouse the Bishop has to sign off on the amounts before she even goes. Maybe he isn't looking as closely at the receipts as he should be but he is supposed to know how much you've gotten.

I have had callings extended to me that I wasn't initially comfortable accepting. I always take time to pray about it to get my own confirmation. I have gotten that confirmation every time and things have worked out well. I don't think it's a put down to the Bishopric that I want personal confirmation. I don't think God wants us to blindly follow anyone; that's why He provides us with that confirmation.

To cook fresh vegetables: Potatoes---peel and slice a couple of potatoes and place in boiling water with a TBSP of butter and a tsp salt. Boil for about 20 minutes. A little less time if you sliced them thin; a little longer if you sliced them thick. They are done when a fork goes thru them easily. You can eat them like this or drain and mash them and add a little milk and more butter for mashed potatoes. Carrots----slice and boil for 20 to 30 minutes. You can eat like this with a little salt or you can mix a little melted butter and brown sugar together and pour over them for glazed carrots.

Here's a basic cornbread recipe to go with the beans: Put these ingredients in a bowl: 1 1/2 cup ground ccorn or corn meal 1/2 cup white flour 3 tsp. baking powder 3 TBSP white sugar 1 tsp salt Mix with a whisk or a spoon will do. Mix these ingredients in a measuring cup: 1/4 cup canola oil 1 Cup milk 1 large egg Mix these ingredients and then add them to the bowl of dry stuff. Stir until well mixed and them pour into a 12 count muffin pan that has been sprayed with pam. Bake in a 415 degree oven for 20 minutes.

To cook beans: 1. Take the bag of hard beans and cover them with water about 2 inches over the top of them. Let them just sit overnight. 2. In the morning pour off the water and add new water. Throw away any bean parts that are floating. 3. Recover with water and bring to a boil. 4. Turn down to a simmer and add a few pieces of cut up ham or link sausage 5. Add 1 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp pepper, 1/2 tsp cumin, 1/2 tsp garlic and a cup of diced onions. 6. Simmer for about an hour. You can play with this basic recipe by adding a can of diced tomatoes or by starting with several different kind of beans mixed together.

What is your position (if you don't mind) and what did you do to get such a long sentence?

I have been released as RS President! I hope to have actual free time and my life back. I feel like so many things slipped thru during my time as pres. It's good to be free. The RS pres before me had 8 kids at home. I don't know how she did it but she did it well. Now maybe I can just teach Sunday School to the teenagers (my new calling) for awhile and enjoy my free time. Yay!

Oxford Compiles List of Top Ten Irritating Phrases

I thought a squib was a type of football kick where it goes low and bounces before the other team can get to it. -
A fairly cheap and easy thing you can do is go to garage sales and buy mason/kerr/ball jars for about a quarter each. Sometimes they are cheaper, sometimes free. Then get a vacuum sealer, the small ones are about $40. You can vacuum seal just about anything in a canning jar, except liquids. If you seal powdery things like flour, you need to put a coffee filter over the top, inside the lid, to keep the powder from gumming up the vacuum sealer. I have, nuts, beans, raisins, dates, chocolate chips, rice, wheat berries, quinoa, barley, and a bunch of other stuff in canning jars. The products I'm using now are over 2 years old and still fresh when I open them.

We don't have winter here in south Texas but we have about 6 months of Spring. I plan to get in a lot of biking, hiking, going to the park with the grandkids, sitting in the front yard shelling pecans and lying on the trampoline in the back yard looking up at the clouds.

Why is tea prohibited by the Word of Wisdom?
havejoy replied to MormonGirl02's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I don't think we have been given a reason but almost everyone has their own theory as to why we aren't supposed to drink tea. My personal theory is that Heavenly Father wants to torture us. (yes, I'm joking, but I still miss a tall glass of iced tea.) -
I moved from Ohio, where it snowed all winter to South Texas 31 years ago. I've only seen real snow once since I've been here and it was over a foot of snow on Christmas Eve a few years ago. I miss it.
