  1. Are you sure? The reason I ask is because I was asked to be the Seminary teacher for our tri-ward area last year and I've been divorced and remarried. I turned it down because I was going to be out of town for at least 4 months during the school year.
  2. I have twins, too and they're only really hard for the first 18 years or so. Then it gets easy. Mine are 29 now.
  3. Ya think green jello was the manna that fed Moses and his followers?
  4. Thanks, I hadn't thought of having the secretary teach. It would be a good opportunity for her. I've already asked the bishopric if they would have one of them teach but if they can't I will ask my secretary.
  5. Who usually does Sharing Time in your ward on the 5th Sunday of the month when it occurs? Do you stick to the topic of the month? This month we are teaching about Baptism so would the 5th Sunday need to be about that or can we pick something we think is important, like reverence? Has anyone ever had a member of the Bishopric teach sharing time?
  6. I obey the commandments as much as I can. Having said that I will also tell you that I understand the commandments better and in more depth as time goes by. I used to think keeping the Sabbath holy meant attending Church. Later I realized it also meant not going to stores or working unless I really had to. Now I realize it also means spending my time and my thoughts on my Heavenly Father and Christ and studying the scriptures and spending time with my family. By next year I hope to have more understanding of this and all the commandments. If you were to ask me if I ever willingly and knowingly break a commandment I could say no.
  7. Sounds like the day I had. I spent most of it outside. I mowed, rode my bike, went for a walk with my husband, sat on the bench in our front yard breathing in the smell of cut grass. Really beautiful day.
  8. I've been hurt a few times but not that often. Broken ribs once, twisted wrist once and a few scrapes and scratches. BTW, I wish people would keep their big scary dogs inside a fence where they can't cause bike accidents.
  9. Congrats and welcome home! You brought back good memories of my own baptism.
  10. We had our first one tonight and we all survived, even the children. It always amazes me how easy it is to get help in our church. I asked for two people each to help me and my counselors for tonight and they all showed up and some even brought help. Others showed up to help without being asked.
  11. Tomorrow I'm making two more sticks for our name box that say "most reverent" and "quietest listener". I'll also be shopping for a little music box. We already have the stickers to go in it. We've been really busy this week getting ready for our quarterly activity but that's a whole 'nother thread.
  12. I like "oh poopy dust".
  13. When I was Relief Society president I spent an average of 20 to 25 hours each week on my calling. The Bishop was way, way busier than I with his. I'd have to say he averages 30 plus hours every week with some weeks being a lot more. I know he's taken vacation from work to be at funerals, sometimes for folks who weren't members but wanted him anyway.
  14. I have one of those too. Mine is an 05 Honda Shadow Aero. I just got new tires on her today. Her name is Bertha. What do you ride?
  15. The part where nobody knows how to use a turn signal. Or their brakes. Or their volume down button.
  16. Texas motto: "Drive Friendly or we'll kick your expletive butt". Oh, never mind. You wanted the "official" motto.
  17. My CTR 5 Class is all boys. They are all really healthy and active and bright and they very nearly drove their last teacher crazy. But it's the class I would want to teach if I could be a teacher in primary. I do think they benefit a lot from the priesthood being there. I think we all do.
  18. I'm sure to post about it. I've started getting myself in shape already by losing weight, biking and lifting weights. I need to figure out what to take with me and keep it as light as possible. I've slept in corn fields before so I don't have to have a real bed or even a real camp ground but I'll need lots of water and a bit of food for the times between civilization. Captain, will you ever do another ride?
  19. You make me want to leave tomorrow. :) I like chatting with people I don't yet know too. My sister and I took a month long motorcycle ride a couple of years ago and had a lot of folks coming up to us at gas stations, camp grounds and state and federal parks. They just wanted to know what we were up to and we really enjoyed the whole experience.
  20. Thanks Captain, I have that page bookmarked now. The Astoria, OR, to Yorktown, VA trail looks like the best one for me. I'm kind of planning for spring of 2011. I should be released from my calling by then and, if not, I won't feel bad about asking to be released. So you averaged 50 miles per day if I did the math correctly. That's only about 3 hours of riding unless it includes a lot of hills. What did you do with the rest of your day?
  21. I ride a bike for exercise. I usually ride between an hour and 3 hours each day, 5 or 6 days each week. I have a mountain bike and will be 52 years old next month so I only ride about 15 or 16 mph. I'm toying with the idea of a cross country ride. Anyone ever taken a really long ride?
  22. Hemi, The kids are 3 years to 12 years. Each class has a teacher who has now been asked to stay with their class during singing and sharing time. It's been much better. We do have two M Priesthood holders who teach the CTR 5's.
  23. I love every idea you've given. I'll bring them to our weekly meeting this Thursday and I think we'll incorporate them all.
  24. I was an atheist until I studied biology in college. It was the leaves that got me. Studying the dark reaction phase of photosynthesis and all the steps involved just blew me away. I didn't have enough faith in Darwin and chaos to believe that something as complicated as that leaf just kind of happened. It was then I started to look for a master engineer.
  25. Biology would be good too.
