  1. I never would -- of course I hate facebook and similar sites.
  2. My opinion: Someone has too much time on their hands
  3. Perhaps you can show me where any leader has stated we can not use modern language versions for personal study. Also Elder Holland frequently quotes modern language Bibles during his General Conference talks.
  4. You realize that people in Bible times did not speak the English of the 1600's or even 1800's and that the KJV is a translation of a translation of a translation....etc. As more and more scraps of early scripture become available for translators to use the modern versions are actually closer than the KJV to the originals. True, you must watch for the translators prejudices, but that is easily solved by using more than one translation.
  5. I probably take it much further than the average Mormon and certainly much further than the Churches teaching. I do find that my point of view is much closer to many (so-called) "internet Mormons" And yes the KJV is the official English version of the Bible the Church USES -- I personally dislike the archaic language of it and use modern versions for personal study/reading.
  6. 1 Stake - 1,210,193,422 people in India We have a ways to go there.
  7. On what do you base this upon? The fact the the Bible is old? If God would have wanted to keep his message perfect and clear -- like many people assume -- then why wouldn't he have kept Prophets around all the time and in every region? Why would he have 1 book that so many people argue about what it really means as His only guide for us if He made sure it contained the messages He wanted us to have? Sorry, but I have never understood why people think the Bible is infallible or perfect or that God maintains it the way he wants it to be.
  8. Yeah, Temps drop down to the 40's and 50's sometimes, but that's usually only in January. 2 years ago we had snow on the ground for 3 days straight! <<shaking head>> I thought I was going to have to move further south.
  9. In my opinion it is the best, but if you are going to join a religion it should be because you believe in what it teaches.
  10. Living in Texas no one wears nylons/pantyhose anywhere. Even the thought of it is absurd. The temps are in the 100's for 3 months straight usually and leading up to it all spring and then declining from it in the fall. Bare legs and sandles are the norm here except maybe for 2-3 months in the winter.
  11. Just who I thought I'd get - The Hulk
  12. I am curious. why do you want to become a Mormon?
  13. Bytor -- If you are catering to a certain age group - which every EQ I have ever been in does, as you age it becomes less advantageous for us seniors to meet with the men in their 20-30's that have young kids (and in some cases in our opinion are young kids themselves). A better way would be to have the missing prospective elders that are over 40 or 45 assigned to the HP Group.
  14. Who keeps opening up 2+ year old threads?
  15. It really depends on how far you carry your dissent.
  16. Correct, (Picky but correct)
  17. When I hit my 50's I asked my Bishop if I could start meeting with the HP group since most of the Elders were 20 years my junior (or so) Gosh I love my HP group - we have some really interesting and experienced men -- nobody takes naps. I find myself wishing we would have more time in class. When you have a couple of ex - Stake Presidents, 2 ex Mission Presidents, 6 or 7 ex-Bishops, you get some really interesting discussions going.
  18. That's not the case, there are many old Elders (even though they may attend the the H.P. Group meeting rather than the Elders Quorum.) There are also many young H.P. (late 20's or 30's) if they are in a Bishopric. Usually (but not always)when someone is made a H.P. its because they need the higher Priesthood for a calling (Bishopric, Stake Presidency, Mission President, etc)
  19. It was a wonderful movie - I bought the soundtrack after seeing it (yes vinyl albums - showing my age) We also saw the play when it came to town a few years ago.
  20. Yes, it sure appears to be. I have a very strong belief, but until I die I won't 'know'. Many people claim to know for a fact, but I would challenge them to compare how they use 'know' in the physical world to how they use it in the spiritual sense.
  21. Cause Stuff Happens. Also we have been promised that no one will be denied blessings due to something beyond their control. Its a faith promoting rumor that people have made up to make others and themselves feel better.
  22. Think of it the same as The Word of Wisdom - it was not a law to begin with because the people couldn't handle it. Had God said no slaves to the people in Moses times they would have drifted (or even ran) away from God. Yet if he told them they had to be set free in 6 years, that wasn't so hard to take. I do agree that the Laws of Moses had many laws not from God. God pretty much allows free will even when mankind adds to his words.
  23. I have an LDS Collection on my Kindle, it includes scriptures, hymns, major books (Lectures on Faith, etc) and 100 years of General Conf talks (Very interesting reading talks by Wilford Woodruff, etc.
  24. All depends on how you define words. I don't have a problem with the term 'cafeteria Mormon' and use it to describe someone that does not accept on faith everything they are told (and Thank God, cause I've been told many incorrect things since I converted almost 19 years ago) I also don't have a problem with teh term 'Gay Pride' -- if you're going to be Gay I'd rather you were not ashamed of it. Now if you mean a 'get in your face' and angry all the time gay person - then no, I am against that. It all depends on your definitions.
  25. Let me ask a question. Do you believe in a universal flood? that the entire Earth was covered by water? Its in both the Bible and the BoM, and many Prophets and Apostles have made that claim. Have you questioned that doctrine? if you have questioned it or believe in the limited flood theory, then I would say you're a Cafeteria Mormon also. To me that's an example of a 'doctrine of tradition' rather than a 'solid doctrine': and that I can accept or reject it and still be a good member.
