Obviously most people have not ever been in a Ward that sucks the life out of you. I am glad of that, but they do exist.
-
My wife and I did exactly that once, our only directive was that our new place had to be outside the Wards boundaries. Some Wards are detrimental to your spirituality and unfortunately some people really never recover 100%. I'll be the first to admit; I've never again reached the level of activity/spirituality I had before that Ward, If you've never experienced a truly terrible Ward you really can't understand how it can zap you. Its wonderful to sit on a message board and solve the Wards problems but its another thing to experience them first hand. I am sorry you are going through that. I would recommend if you are at the end of your rope, that you talk to the Stake President and find out about attending a different Ward from where you live or if you can move, then do so. If the Stake Presidency knows the ward is not working, perhaps they should change the leadership or even the boundaries to split the membership and integrate them into Wards that do work.

I almost never remember my dreams and don't think I've ever had a prophetic one. I have however had very strong impressions about some things while awake.

Role of Sunday School in learning/progression
mnn727 replied to jb789's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Perhaps through your preparation for those classes and your comments during them you will be assisting someone else's growth. That is after all Heavenly Fathers 'work and glory' to assist others.- 16 replies

That sounds incredibly boring I think I'd rather watch paint dry.

The key is you don't stay at a Disney Resort, there are many much less expensive hotels offsite, and there's much more to do in the Orlando area than go to Disney World.

That is so NOT true. There are tons of shows to see, museums. The Hoover dam is an easy hour drive away. There's the Temple.

Remember, we were with the Father in the beginning, intelligence's can not be created (D&C 93:29) thus God can not be the actual Father of us (who we are, our intelligence or identity) physically, so becoming his spirit children must be some kind of adoption process rather than a birthing process. My 2 cents -- I know its not a popular belief, but it is scriptural.

What happened to the spring time birth date due to the shepherds being in the fields with their flocks? I thought that was pretty well established even outside the Church. Not that it matters to anyones salvation, but it is an interesting topic.

I tend to agree with your Bishop -- it would have been a true test of your faith whether you were willing to leave everything and walk across the frontier 1000 or more miles for your religion. Let alone being physically capable of doing that.

Clarification on the wording of "only begotten son"
mnn727 replied to Bini's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Not in the Begotten sense IMHO. Since we were all intelligences with the Father in the beginning (D&C 93:29) I believe its more like adoption rather than procreation to become 'spirit children' -

Inactive Members and Visiting/Home Teachers

no, in fact those are the people who need HT/VT the most. -
no more than 40. just kidding. No that decision is left to the couple and God. MY DW and I have none -- that was apparently Gods choice however, we would have liked a couple kids ourselves.

If this is the same woman from a couple years back she offered to search through the records for people who shouldn't have been baptized (Holocaust victims and celebrities) if the Church would pay her.

3-hour meeting block: Too long or not long enough?
mnn727 replied to Vort's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
We're starting at 8:30 this year (3 wards in the building) that's too early. I'm a night person. -

3-hour meeting block: Too long or not long enough?
mnn727 replied to Vort's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Between: Bishopric meeting, Ward Council, the 3 hour Block, and once or twice a month home teaching(depending on how I can arrange it) and then the occasional fireside, my Sundays are shot -- I know, I know, blessings in Heaven and all that but you know, I'd rather have the family time myself. -
Some of us may not be around by then.

There is a BIG difference between Salvation and Exaltation. Almost all will be saved and will reside in one kingdom or another of Heaven, this is Salvation. Fewer will be exalted, only those that eventually learn to be like our Father in Heaven. this is Exaltation.

Death and Garments
mnn727 replied to Bini's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
I think a person should write out their wishes - and insurances information and bank info, etc and review it yearly. I was going in for an operation a few years back and I put together 2 pages for my wife just in case. She didn't really want any part of it until I impressed on her how important it was 'just in case' and that I wouldn't be doing my duty as the person in charge of the finances in our family if she didn't understand them. Luckily she didn't have to use them, but now she knows and I keep the info up to date and she knows where to find it. -
I wear regular dress pants everywhere: gardening, shopping, cleaning, moving, etc never had an issue.

I don't play either, so no problem. In fact I've never heard of scatter, what is it, some kind of dodge ball?
-
I've always worn 'business casual': nice pants (dress pants or Dockers) and nice shirt golf type or button down style, no tie, hard shoes, no tennis shoes in case you drop something. Sorry but I'd never show up in a t-shirt and jeans, to me that's inappropriate for any church function other than perhaps landscaping work.

Be nice towards them but otherwise ignore them.
