That link shows a page which reads in part: "Brother Pratt arose and stated that the duty of the 12 is to ordain and send men to their native country. Brother Able was advised to visit the colored plantation. The advice was sanctioned by the conference." Then they changed subjects and talked about the temple. I can't really see how this record supports your claim. I see nothing about how he shouldn't be publicly recognized as Elder. There's nothing there about "only" preaching to black people - you added that yourself. It wasn't 3 Q12 members, it was Brother Pratt. It wasn't something he "stated", it was something he "advised". Everyone agreed it was good advice. ? This page seems to be good evidence for a position exactly opposite what you're claiming. "Elder Hyde enquired the situation of the Negro. I replied they come into the world slaves, mentally & physically. Change their situation with the whites, & they would be like them. They have souls & are subjects of Salvation. Go into Cincinati. or any city, and find an educated negro. who rides in his carriage, and you will see a being who has risen by the powers of his own mind to his exalted state of respectability." Joseph is basically saying "there's really no difference between black and white folk, other than the circumstances of their environment, and a black man can do anything a white man can. Just look at black folk in Cincinnatti." Yeah, @Maverick I'm glad you're providing links. They're not supporting your claims.

Thanks for cutting and pasting all that. I'm hearing that you have all this in a text file or something? Do you have a source or a link? I'm not calling foul or anything, but the rise of modern AI technology just makes it more unwise than ever before to just believe something you see on the internet. And Carb's links shed some doubt on your compiled accounts. And I looked around and couldn't find the Interview with Zebedee Coltrin and Abraham O. Smoot on https://www.josephsmithpapers.org/. Please don't take it personally. I just prefer to read as close to a source as I possibly can whenever trying to figure out what I think about anything.

This is not my understanding of the matter, either for Elijah Abel or for his sons. Do you have references supporting this? I second Vort's request for references or sources. I've never heard before that someone thought Abel's ordination was an "error", and told him he wasn't permitted to exercise the priesthood. @Maverick, please tell us who told you that stuff. I'd really like to know.

Good start. Up next: A ceasefire and talks between Russia and Ukraine - also something Trump promised he would do before taking office.

Heh. Colorado Springs learned it's lesson. Panicky with George Floyd riots, the Democrats hastily run a diversity candidate for mayor, Yemi Mobalate. Dude wins handily, because everyone is scrambling to signal virtue to our new Antifa overlords. He goes on to be a pretty good mayor who created a dashboard to measure himself against goals of things like reducing homelessness. When Denver's sanctuary city philosophy crumbled and Denver started looking at other cities to "help", Mayor Yemi was quite outspoken about how Denver will NOT be sending his city any illegal immigrants.

Why No Crosses?
NeuroTypical replied to Carborendum's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
Heh. Identifying more closely with mainstream Christian symbolism is hardly something that happens when woke folks are interested in being more inclusive. That's some pretty backwards YewTahh cultural weirdness right there. That said, absolutely the church has been marketing itself as a Christian church that worships Jesus Christ and is peopled by people doing their best to learn of Him and live Christlike lives. We continue to stand by our doctrinal distinctiveness, and we're certainly not backing down from Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon, or our restoration history, but it all comes 2nd to learning of and worshipping Christ. We also won't be bending on the Proclamation on the Family any time soon. And THAT said, well, um, yeah, you can't go to Churchofjesuschrist.org and swing a dead cat without hitting a dozen pages displaying cultural, gender, and racial diversity. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/welcome/who-are-the-latter-day-saints?lang=eng https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/search?facet=all&lang=eng&query=inclusion&page=1 https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/search?facet=all&lang=eng&query=diversity&page=1 (Glad to see almost zero stuff about "Equity". Which is nice, because it's basically either Marxism or people rebranding the word equality to appeal to ignorant socialists.) -
How come batteries (plural)? I don't think I've ever been in a car with more than one battery. Except for that one time I rode in a Tesla. But that has no engine to turn off at a red light. Government mandates/pressure is absolutely part of the problem, but not that big of a part any more. Most of it is because people demand technology be added to their cars the second it's been invented. (Full disclosure - selling electronics to the automotive electronic industry probably accounts for a fourth or fifth of my paycheck.)

Is refusing the treatment the same as assisted dying?

Is refusing the treatment the same as assisted dying?
NeuroTypical replied to HaggisShuu's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
We once delivered this information to a family we were home teaching. They had a relative that needed a full blood replacement ever 3-4 weeks or so. (Not blood transfusion, but a full blood replacement.) It was an expensive and painful thing that brought some severe quality of life issues. It wasn't exactly a relief to them to hear "shouldn't feel obligated to extend life by extreme means", but it did help them ground themselves. The lady stopped the blood treatments and was dead within a month. The family told us everyone was at peace with the decision, especially the lady, in part because of this counsel from the church. -

Help a guy out here. We ga(1)ther toge(2)ther to ask(3) the Lord's ble(4)ssing; 4 isn't 3, right? Or is it so slow that it goes like this? We(1) ga(2)ther(3) to(1)ge(2)ther(3) to(1) ask(2) the(3) Lord's(1) ble(2)ssing(3) (I just wanna know how I'm supposed to wave my arms if I ever get asked to conduct. I agree it's a good song with more going on than perhaps others.) -
Hi and welcome Ruben. FYI to all, our church website grows beefier every year with increasing resources on sensitive topics like this one. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics-essays/race-and-the-priesthood?lang=eng https://history.churchofjesuschrist.org/content/perspectives-on-church-history/revelations-in-the-summer-of-1978?lang=eng https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/media/video/2021-01-0080-struggling-with-the-history-of-race-and-the-priesthood-his-grace?lang=eng

Women in Combat v-a-v the new Defense Secretary

Whelp, Elon retweeted someone complaining about the dumbest and fakest jobs. One of them is a "director of climate diversification" at the U.S. International Development Finance Corp. And now poor Ashley somebody (the person who holds that office) has gone viral for existing and now appears on memes. The media'll be pushing about how horrible Elon is for setting millions of his followers against random govt employees. But if it's ok with everyone, I'll be more outraged that my tax dollars fund a "director of climate diversification", and less outraged that Ashley somebody might need to delete her online social media presence. Both are issues. -

Whelp, in China, a recent cultural crackdown had police arresting young folks in costume on Halloween. Getting booked and fingerprinted and scared about being put on a list of problem-people-the-government-would-be-keeping-an-eye-on. So it's nice the UK isn't that bad. I guess. It really is not a movie about LDS. It's a horror flick in the Saw genre. Bad guy with total control forces victims to make choices that reveal their inner secrets, and there's lots of blood and cutting and murder and psychological horror and whatnot. In this case, the victims are 2 mormon missionary chicks. The show got the following things right: - We have sister missionaries that work in pairs. - They wear nametags. - They're not supposed to go into a house with only man/men present. Honestly, that's all they really needed to get right. It's a horror flick like Saw.

So @LDSGator, tell us everything you know about Pam Bondi! -
Y'all must be real fun at movies. As opposed to me, who is the pinnacle of fun at movies. I'll overlook plot holes and contradictions all day, but I'll also yell stuff at the characters and opine about what should have happened or what's going to happen next. "Wait! I can explain!" "Better be good - you died the last time we watched this show!" "Daddy, stop!"

Just finished reading Second Foundation
NeuroTypical replied to CommanderSouth's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Heh. Memory is funny. It's been 20+ years since I read Asimov's foundation books. When I watched the TV series, I said "Yeah, 3 clones of the same emperor - just like the books!" Then Carb asked this question, and I had to go to Wiki to learn that I was basically creating false memories for myself. Don't tell my wife - she thinks I already remember too much history all wrong. -

AppleTV did a not-horrible job with their first two seasons of Foundation. Not too horrible anyway, IMO. The book is always better, but it was fun to see the genetic clones of the emperor sitting down to the breakfast table and occasionally moving in perfect synch with the napkin or the forking of the fruit or whatever.
