  1. Just wondering whre the scripture is that says GOD can't/won't add to His words?
  2. :D:Dgood job thats all you were doing or I'd have to take action:p
  3. Alternative fanclub anthem:)
  4. Hey I been weird freaky stalking him longer:)
  5. Thanks Moksha, thats what I needed to know lol. I love Covesea too but here the tiny village I got it from pronounces it Cow-see. The village is currently trying not to disappear into the sea:) Don't know if anyone is interested but to expound a bit on the dialects, usually they come with an accent and they can vary over just a few miles. The three I know best of Scots/Scouse and Yorkshire. This clip came to mind:) Scots uses run away sentences with commas where fullstops should be. Scouse doesn't use punctuation lol Maybe a fullstop at the end of the piece, as thats the first breath it takes. Yorkshire just puts its commas and fullstops in funny places. I am odd in that my accent is RP (kinda like the Queen) but the dialect is a mix of those three, plus I have some minor dyslexia going on lol Trying to work out punctuation is not something that I do naturally.
  6. But thats the thing its not an inconsistency its a clarification of what is in the Bible. The doctrine we believe isn't outside of the Bible the Bible is the foundation. After 18 years as a Latter Day Saint I see my faith in the Bible. I actually attended a Lent History of the Bible course recently, it was the first time I had studied the Bible without the Book of Mormon and modern revelation in about 16 years, and wow it was like being naked in public. It makes a lot less sense without what we have. A Christian friend gave me a scripture to prevent me going to the Temple in Hebrews far from have the effect he expected, he got a thank you for helping me understand the temple in greater depth.
  7. Which is precisely why we have everything. Personal Revelation, Scripture plus a Prophet of God provide us with our three witnesses. We have checks, balances and order. That is why we have the whole of the available truth.
  8. Sorry everyone had a crap week, should be less argumentative. CHowell I really struggle with people who come into my life presume to tell me what I should believe without bothering to find our about our major basis of belief. Just a read of the 13 Articles of Faith would have answered many of the questions you asked. We can't convert you none of us have that power, that is between you and God. However if you think LDS do not reverence the bible you are very sadly mistaken. We understand it in greater detail than any other group because of the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and our Prophets. Not to mention the other books of scripture. How can someone understand things when they only have a small portion of God's words? Sometimes I am just at a loss as to why someone would want to live with only part of God's word.
  9. Then maybe start saying I believe instead of terms like YOU MUST. Again you used the phrase YOU MUST if you didn't intend it fair enough, but today I am rattled enough with life in general that you using it hurt me. When you made that one post you phrased it in such a way that completely rejected everything that is dear to me. I love the Bible deeply its hugely sacred. I don't however believe its word should replace HIM Usually starts with the answer to the question to What is God. I don't believe God was irresponsible in the Garden of Eden, I don't believe in the basic interpretation of the atonement. Lack of one baptism or consistent set of doctrines. Like I said most of it:) If I wasn't LDS I certainly wouldn't be Christian. I actually usually do a good job of reconciling it, but why should I have too? Why only use a small portion of scripture? Why restrict God? Ultimately you have chosen to interpret scripture a certain way, thats fine but I prefer to have God interpret His Word. I prefer to hear what his Prophet has to say about the Bible this month. Quite the reverse the depth of doctrine and understanding with the BIBLE is a thousand times what a mainstream Christian can ever hope to achieve.
  10. With your arguement we are both wrong. I would never dream of rubbishing your relationship with Heavenly Father but you chose to with mine. If you receive the answer its wrong then obey that. You are trying to force me to be something that I cannot be without disobeying God. You told me what I must believe, when you did that you took a place only God can take. You gave me the insight when you informed me the Bible was 100% and revelation from God meant nothing. If you are willing to tell me that the Bible is 100% and my relationship with God means nothing then you are being entirely personal Make no mistake about it. The Bible is 100% the word of God, the errors are in the translations between Greek and English. If you can't accept the Bible as 100% the world of God then you must reject it in it's entirety. I grew up around mainstream Christianity and quite frankly I don't believe much of it. Because you told me what I should believe instead of telling me what you believe and sharing ideas, at that point the discussion becomes personal. With your statement you chose to rubbish God and right now I don't like that. Fact is I don't need to reconcile a bean of Bible doctrine with anything
  11. LOL Cos English in England is made up of many different dialects and none of them punctuate the same way.
  12. I know and part of me wonders how on Earth someone can hope to understand the Bible without the rest of the blessing we enjoy. General Conference, The Ensign, The Gift of the Holy Ghost, The Temple. As Latter Day Saints we understand the Bible better than any other group.
  13. I am sorry but this galls me, and maybe after an emotional week its bugging me even more than normal. But who made you God? Why should I place you above God in my life? Right now in this post you are telling me you know more about the Word of God than my Heavenly Father. All my life I have done my best to serve and love my God, and have you any idea how appalling it is that you tell me I must do something that God says is wrong? I have no reason to trust your word about anything. I have every reason to take what the God who has guided me wisely says over anything any human says. This is precisely why I was not Christian before I became LDS. Too many people who think they are more important than an individuals relationship with their God and this turning the Bible into an Idol. You can worship the Bible if you like, but I personally will continue to put God first in my life.
  14. so you subscribe to the theory that God is not omnipotent, He is a negligent parent, He left his children in the Garden with the serpent KNOWING they had no way of determining He was evil. I can tell my children the stove is hot, but I am not about to let them try it out until I am sure they know its hot and dangerous. I was about 7 when I had an issue with that one.
  15. CHowell because God guides each one of us, you don't have to be a prophet to receive revelation about what is right and wrong.# The Book of Mormon itself admitted it contained inaccuracies and that the human hand would always mean some error. Joseph Smith described it as the most correct book not the most perfect book. 98.6% accuracy isn't enough for me when I can get 100% accuracy of what God wants his servants to say once a month at least.
  16. LOL I only had one a half discussion lessons as well I was like Hemidakota had a lot to learn after baptism
  17. We don't add anything God does. Personally I am not about to tell God He should stop guiding us. Are you? my favourite scripture is Mormon 9 31 Condemn me not because of mine imperfection, neither my father, because of his imperfection, neither them who have written before him; but rather give thanks unto God that he hath made manifest unto you our imperfections, that ye may learn to be more wise than we have been. 32 And now, behold, we have written this record according to our knowledge, in the characters which are called among us the areformed Egyptian, being handed down and altered by us, according to our manner of speech. 33 And if our plates had been asufficiently large we should have written in Hebrew; but the Hebrew hath been altered by us also; and if we could have written in Hebrew, behold, ye would have had no imperfection in our record. 34 But the Lord knoweth the things which we have written, and also that none other people knoweth our language; and because that none other people knoweth our language, therefore he hath prepared ameans for the interpretation thereof. 35 And these things are written that we may rid our garments of the blood of our abrethren, who have dwindled in unbelief. 36 And behold, these things which we have adesired concerning our brethren, yea, even their restoration to the knowledge of Christ, are according to the prayers of all the saints who have dwelt in the land.
  18. I'm not saying He will lie, quite the reverse. However I believe not to sin is a choice God makes.
  19. Well the one thing contained in the Bible is the fact they didn't have children in the garden, Eve wasn't even pregnant when they left. Modern revelation gives us an understanding of why.
  20. Like Hemidakota says its only part of the Divine Word of God. We have a prophet, we have the Gift of the Holy Ghost there is that personal relationship with God. Yes its the Word of God, but it isn't God. Personally my issue with Chrisianty is the turning the Bible into an Idol, and using it to replace God.
  21. The Bible also teaches that before the Fall they had no knowledge of good and evil for us they were as small children incapable of sin. They were also in our religion incapable of having children. Have you ever read CS Lewis' Perelandra? For me personally I have no desire to reconcile the Bible with my beliefs. my priority is to know I am right with God at the end of each day. The beauty of continuing revelation is you have the full Word of God.
  22. We use the Bible as far as it is correctly translated. But i have fantastic news for you God is very much live and He still communicates with us. The Bible is a beautiful sacred work, deep and meaningful, great way to know of God. BUT it is not God, God is more than a book. Nothing trumps that personal relationship, and we have the advantage of greater understanding than most Christian Churches. We have the Gift of the Holy Ghost and God's prophet on Earth. I am LDS because God taught me it was the right path, not because the Bible said so. The Bible is the Word of God because God says so.
  23. I have no martial arts experience (well Judo for a few years). This is for my novel, its not my best piece of work. I have made up something called the Iron Falcon which is a martial art that comes out of meditation called Soaring Peace. Angus my character is watching unaware he Monks are preparing for the battle of the century in a few hours. Please forgive shoddy English and tense its a first draft Is that a grin he is trying not to show. He leads me out of the room. The courtyard is transformed, it is full of monks, some with a variety of weapons. They are wearing a thigh length long sleeve black tunic and black trousers, their soft black boots tied to their feet. The clothing increases the visual fluidity of their movement. This must be Kui-hui, it is easy to see why the Soaring Warriors were so feared. They seem to spend ages in the air, split themselves in two, and just move so fast. Some have weapons and some are just fighting bare handed. I realise how much our country has lost. The Abbot spots me, and claps his hands. I try not to look like a complete wally when everyone stops and kneels in a bow before me. All except the Abbot who walks towards me. 'Angus please forgive my not showing obeisance. Traditionally the King and the Abbot were partners in Covesea Island society. I am not required by convention to bow before you.' 'Suits me fine Abbot, I am not struck on this whole bowing lark. I am just a man, accident of birth and circumstances has placed me in this position.' 'You sound like Jimmu and King Abraham, they fully believed the King was the greatest servant on Covesea Island.' 'Abbot may I see your men fighting again I am fascinated.' The Abbot raises his arms, 'Sub-Prior Bai and Master of Arms Chao, CHU BIAO XIAN .' No further instruction is needed, silently the monks fall out, kneeling round the edge of the courtyard, leaving two monks in the centre. They bow, then the battle begins. Chao lunges back as Bai performs a whirlwind kick that propels him off the ground over Chao's head, I expect him to crash into Chao, but Chao disappears, reappearing behind him as Bai fluidly drops to the floor, rolling into a standing position. It is Chao's turn to leave the ground, he just leaps up as he does Bai grabs his leg bringing him back to the ground. 'BROTHERS!' The Abbot shouts throwing each of them a staff, they catch them without breaking the fight, Bai catches his in one hand mid-flight. Chao lunges at Bai, who leans back in a diagonal direction, Bai then splits in two, leaving a shadow of himself behind which Chao slices into. Chao aims a kick at Bai, who ducks under Chao's leg, how did he get the staff to go with him. He flies through the air, landing behind Chao and knocking him to the floor. Chao gains control of the fall but Bai is too fast for him, he pins him firmly to the ground, bringing a tie out of nowhere. He firmly binds Chao. the Abbot shouts, 'ZHONG CHAUN' Bai, unbinds Chao, and helps him to his feet. They bow to each other then turn and kneel before the Abbot. The Abbot speaks, 'Well done, Sub Prior Bai. Master of Arms Chao, letting your guard down will get you killed in battle. You will report to me later for a suitable consequence.' Even I feel uneasy so great is the Abbot's displeasure aimed at poor Chao.
  24. Well we are kinda weird what do we expect:)
